Hi All, I just posted version 0.6 of the automatic snapshots prototype on my web log. The new features are: * ZFS send/receive support * Multiple schedules per filesystem More at: http://blogs.sun.com/timf/entry/zfs_automatic_snapshots_now_with Note, this is just something I''ve been messing about with in my free time - it''s not an official ZFS project and may not be

how do I find out if I am on a zfs filesystem
This may be a dumb question, but is there a way to find out if an arbitrary filesystem is actually a zfs filesystem? Like if I were to write a script that needs to do different steps based on the underlying filesystem. Any pointers welcome. -- Jan Hendrik Mangold Sun Microsystems 650-585-5484 (x81371) "idle hands are the developers workshop" -------------- next part

ZFS Boot for Solaris SPARC
Hi, Searching this alias I can find a number of guides and scripts that describe the configuration of Solaris to boot from a ZFS rootpool. However, these guides appear to be Solaris 10 x86 specific. Is the creation of a ZFS boot disk available for Solaris SPARC ? If so, could you point me in the direction of where I can obtain details of this new feature from. Thanks and Regards, Paul. PS:

? Removing a disk from a ZFS Storage Pool
Hi my understanding is that you cannot remove a disk from a ZFS storage pool once you have added it...but I also think I saw an email from Jeff B saying that the ability to depopulate a disk so that it can be removed is being worked on....or was I dreaming ? What is the status of this ? Thanks Tim -- Signature Tim Thomas Staff Engineer Storage Systems Product Group

Re: [zfs-discuss] Problems getting Lustre started with ZFS

ZFS quotas & zoned datasets
I''m seeing some unexpected and strange behaviour with respect to quotas and zones. Initially I set things up with no quota on the data set that as delegated to the zone. Then as the local zone admin I created a new child dataset and set a quota on that. Now the global zone admin attempts to quota the delegated dataset, and it appears to work but.... global zone=pingpong local

questions about ZFS Send/Receive
Hi guys, we are proposing a customer a couple of X4500 (24 Tb) used as NAS (i.e. NFS server). Both server will contain the same files and should be accessed by different clients at the same time (i.e. they should be both active) So we need to guarantee that both x4500 contain the same files: We could simply copy the contents on both x4500 , which is an option because the "new

Hello, Is there a way to upgrade my current ZFS version. I show the version could be as high as 22. I tried the command below. It seems that you can only upgrade by upgrade the OS release. [ilmcoso0vs056:root] / # zpool upgrade -V 16 tank invalid version ''16'' usage: upgrade upgrade -v upgrade [-V version] <-a | pool ...> [ilmcoso0vs056:root] /

zfs send and recordsize
Hi Everyone, I perform a snapshot and a zfs send on a filesystem with a recordsize of 16k, and redirect the output to a plain file. Later, I use cat sentfs | zfs receive otherpool/filesystem. In this case the new filesystem''s recordsize will be the default 128k again. The other filesystem attributes (for example atime) are reverted to defaults too. Okay, I can set these later,

zfs -H output ??"s
Hi, I have a customer that would like to open a RFE on the following issue... Describe the problem: It would be nice if zfs -H didn''t print any output to STDERR (or if there was some way to tell it not to). Given it''s for scripting mode, I''m going to be checking the return code anyway and doing something based on the return code not the string sent to STDERR.

ZFS, block device and Xen?
Hi There, I looked at the ZFS admin guide in attempt to find a way to leverage ZFS capabilities (storage pool, mirroring, dynamic stripping, etc.) for Xen domU file systems that are not ZFS. Couldn''t find an answer whether ZFS could be used only as a "regular" volume manager to create logical volumes for UFS or even a Linux ext2fs, with ideally, the ability to create

ZFS questions with mirrors
IHAC that is asking the following. any thoughts would be appreciated Take two drives, zpool to make a mirror. Remove a drive - and the server HANGS. Power off and reboot the server, and everything comes up cleanly. Take the same two drives (still Solaris 10). Install Veritas Volume Manager (4.1). Mirror the two drives. Remove a drive - everything is still running. Replace the drive, everything

zfs corruption...
Hi all, It would appear that I have a zpool corruption issue to deal with... pool is exported, but upon trying to import it, server panics.  Are there any tools available on a zpool that is in an exported state?  I''ve got a separate test bed in which I''m trying to recreate, but I keep getting messages to the effect of need to import the pool first.  Suggestions? thanks Jay
