OpenSolaris for sparc in qemu on linux x64
Hi,
i want to port an open-source project to sparc. I just downloaded OpenSolaris (sol-nv-b75-sparc-...iso), created an empty image for the hard disk, and tried to start qemu in a linux x64bit-host:
qemu-system-sparc -hda test.img -cdrom sol-nv-b75-sparc-v1.iso -boot d -nographic
The output says:
Nvram id QEMU_BIOS, version 1
CPUs: 1
nvram error detected, zapping pram

I'm currently fighting my way through the dovecot configuration pages and
endless options to see if I can just get my mail from the server. Thus far
no joy but dovecot seems to be working if I could figure out the
configuration. My process thus far has been :
1) read docs
2) try a config change
3) fail
4) goto (1)
I just saw an error while trying to read my /var/mail/dclarke good 'ol

serial console oddities with CentOS Linux release 6.0 (Final)
It seems as if /etc/inittab has undergone some changes. That doesn't seem
to be related to my issues however. I am able to setup the grub.conf (
menu.lst if you like ) to use the serial console ttyS0 at 9600 baud and
the usual bits.
However I can not actually see the GRUB menu at boot time. I see nothing
until the server begins to boot and then I can see everything. However the
grub menu is

Mounting of NT Shares on SunOS
Hi There
Do anyone know about the posibility to mount an NT share into SunOS (SunOS
and Solaris 2.x) operating system.
I know there is a solution for Linux(smbmount, smbunmount), but this does
not work on SunOS because smbfs is not supported. Is there a known port of
the software on SunOS...?
I have looked into using a piece of software called rumba(software to mount
NT shares via smb to nfs)

zfs sparc boot "Bad magic number in disk label"
Hello,
I recently installed SunOS 5.11 snv_91 onto a Ultra 60 UPA/PCI with OpenBoot 3.31 and two 300GB SCSI disks. The root file system is UFS on c0t0d0s0. Following the steps in ZFS Admin I have attempted to convert root to ZFS utilizing c0t1d0s0. However, upon "init 6" I am always presented with:
Bad magic number in disk label
can''t open disk label package

Improving xen-qemu-dm-4.0 dependencies
Hi,
When I first built my Debian package, I needed to depend on qemu-system
| qemu, since there was no other ways to pull needed BIOS files.
It seems the situation changed, and that I could depend on less stuff
from the qemu package. Maybe only the package named "etherboot" and
"vgabios". To do that, my plan is to simply package a folder named:
/usr/share/xen/qemu

qemu-sparc, not to be confused with qemu-system-sparc
I installed CentOS 7.6 then installed all things QEMU on my machine. I have
a SPARC image I need to bringing up in a VM. I've been using
*qemu-system-sparc *on a box on which I have Fedora-30 installed.
$ qemu-system-sparc -m 256 -hda solaris_v2-qemu_v2.2.0.disk -nographic
-bios ./openbios-sparc32
Can I use *qemu-sparc* to bring up my Solaris image:
*solaris_v2-qemu_v2.2.0.disk* ?
If so,

sunos 4.1.4 Makefile and regex.[ch] fix
Hi,
At the office, there is an old ss5 box running sunos 4.1.4.
I have configured openssh using gcc on this machine.
In doing so, I found a few compilation and configuration problems.
1. Compilation Problem.
SunOS 4.1.4 doesn't have regex.h header nor the entry points regex.c
is supposed to offer.
Solution.
Copy regex.c and regex.h from, say, GNU awk distribution to
the openssh directory

Funds for OpenSSH from Solaris and OpenSolaris users at Blastwave
Dear OpenSSH friends :
The Blastwave.org project is focused on providing quality open
source software to Solaris and OpenSolaris users. Please know that
your software is valued and one of the very first software packages to
be offered by Blastwave well over 3 years ago. I have personally
scraped together $100 for you but don't know where to put it yet. You

Slow and unpredictable Samba performance?
Hi!
I've installed Solaris 10 x86 (Core2Duo - x64) server, with Samba over ZFS
RAID-Z. Samba is a part of Active Directory Domain. I've managed to join it
to domain, to get the users and groups from A.D. and to translate them to
Unix IDs. Everything works really good. Samba is installed from the packages
from Solaris 10 DVD.
Only problem I have is the performance :( It's

R-beta: R binaries for NEXTSTEP (I386 and M68k) on CRAN
Binary distributions of R-0.49 for NEXTSTEP (Intel and M68k) are now
available on CRAN:

Because NEXTSTEP doesn't support dynamic loading, I've compiled
in a number of additional functions (mostly from the user contributed
section of CRAN) which I find

blastwave.rb patch
The original blastwave.rb would store "no pkg-get in /usr/sbin /usr/
bin" into @@pkgget if pkg-get is not found in the PATH.
The patch below modifies blastwave.rb to store the first matching
binary in the user''s PATH, or if not found, check the default
location (puppetd''s PATH may not be sane) and if still not present
and executable, correctly store as nil.

1.2.6 Spurious pread()/stream errors/index corruption
Hi,
We're currently testing 1.2.x with a move from 1.1.x in mind however with
the current 1.2 series we are encountering some serious problems. simply
editing the main conf and restarting dovecot gives these errors seemingly
randomly:
(some previous posts indicated this might be todo with 64bit file offsets
so we've played around with disable-largefile and setting _FILE_OFFSET_BITS

Compile help for Solaris 10 x86, samba 3.0.28a deficient?
Hi all,
I've got an ongoing battle with samba shipped with Sun Solaris 10 in
it's current form (Samba version 3.0.28a) not wanting to talk to my
OpenLDAP master correctly. Essentially, under certain conditions, this
behaviour is observed, in the log.smbd:
