XEN sound emulation locks device exclusively
Hi there!
My problem is the following:
I am experimenting with virtualization with XEN.
I am running WinXP in a HVM host with a Debian Gnu/Linux (Etch) dom0.
I am also using audio emulation (sb16). This way, sounds from WinXP work fine.
And here comes the problem:
The HVM guest completely reserves the audio device; other software can not use it.
(mplayer says this:

Soundblaster
Hi,
I have the VIA chipset, and I'm trying to disable the sound and enable a
soundblaster compatible card.
Can you tell me what you did in /etc/modules.conf to enable your
soundblaster card?
Thanks,
Mike

SoundBlaster Live
Folks,
I last saw this problem in a thread in this newsgroup a couple of years
ago, but there was no solution then.
It was then stated that you couldn't get a SoundBlaster Live sound card to
work under Wine because Windows 'ran' everything through the emu10k1.vxd
file and Wine did not support vxd files.
Is this still the case?
Has anyone found a workaround yet?

Sound Problems
I have a Creative Audigy SE configured whit the module CA106
The problem is to make the mixer work.
It seems that Wine looks for PCM Playback Volume that is common to many
cards, but not mine.
My card channels for Playback are IEC958, IEC958 C, IEC958 F, IEC958 R,
Analog C, Analog F, Analog R and Analog S.
What am I missing?
Thanks.

[patch] Activate Qemu options
Hi,
This patch makes it possible for Qemu to use the SDL library, to
conveniently replace VNC, which has horrible mouse support.
It also adds a IOEMU_CONFIGURE_OPTIONS option in tools/Makefile, so that
later on, we can call:
$(MAKE_CLEAN) -C $(DIR)/tools $(CONFIG)
IOEMU_CONFIGURE_OPTIONS="--audio-drv-list=\"pa oss alsa sdl esd\"

Strange soundcard problem w/4.2
Hi there,
I'm trying to repurpose an unused machine (athlon XP 3000+) for my young
daughter to use. It's on a motherboard with a VIA KT880 chipset and VIA
integrated soundcard (VIA 8237). The card seems to be detected during
boot time and shows up in the system log, but when I try to actually use
the sound card within Gnome, there's no sound. The device is detected,

CentOS 3.8 and ESS ES1878 sound chip?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Hi,
I can't seem to be able to get any sound out of my CentOS 3.8 laptop. I
have the ESS ES1878 chip in it. It can work in either native mode, or
in SoundBlaster compatible mode. Neither is detected by CentOS 3.8.
I've looked at the directory with kernel drivers, and there doesn't seem
to be any kernel module that smells like either

Getting lowest latency sound?
I have been trying to get lowest-latency sound (with highest fidelity) to use with Dragon NaturallySpeaking.
I have Jaunty and the latest RT kernel, which I know has problems for many applications but works fine to run DNS. (It will not, however, install the program nor train it.)
I set up real-time audio access as follows:
sudo su -c 'echo @audio - rtprio 99 >>

snom soft phone
Some of you might already know that we are releasing a new phone, snom

version out of it and offer it for trial or private use for free (for
more details, see the license conditions).
There are only few limitations to the phone. First of all, the audio
subsystem will work only work with an acceptable quality if you are

here at wkdu.org our minds are blown trying to figure out what our
problem is, we are using a dell optiplex gx1 with a soundblaster live

plug a cd player directly into the soundcard the hum goes away and
when we plug the line in into anything else there is no hum, so the
question i ask where is the hum coming from? we are

MP3 decoding, fading and streaming at the same time
Hi There,
I have just ported to Linux a program that I wrote years ago in Prolog
under DOS to automate our Shortwave radio station. Back in 1990 the
original program used ADPCM coded audio files and a special board. Now I
can use MP3 files and a Soundblaster compatible card ;-) under Linux, and
it runs from a console without any fancy interface. I absolutely need to

wine and Monkey Island 4
Hi,
today I wanted to start Monkey Island 4 with wine. I'am using cvs version
of wine from today (04.Feb.2001), I also patched the transgaming directx
patch into it.
My system: SuSE 7.0 with KDE2.1beta2, GeForce 2MX with 0.96 NVidia drivers,
Soundblaster PCI 128 (ES1371) with Kernel drivers.
I use wine with installed Windows. My startup command is:
wine "c:\Monkey4\Monkey.exe"
