acard 865 corruption issues
Hi Andre, ext3 folk, It would be really great if you could help me out here, I'm not sure if this is a hardware issue, a driver issue, an ext3 issue or some combination of them... I have a KT133A motherboard with an on-board promise controller, and an ACARD ATP865 in a PCI slot. I'm running 2.4.19-ac4 with the lvm 1.0.5 patches. The acard has two drives, hde and hdg attached to it, both

Best Hardware for Asterisk Server?
Hey guys, In your experience what is the best way to go for a production asterisk box in your offices? With desktop prices so cheap you might think that you should just buy them off the shelf, but is that really a reliable machine? Anything you can tell me that would assist me in deciding the best way to obtain and maintain these boxes would be very helpful. I have even looked into building

Hardware requirements
I don't seem to be able to find the necessary hardware specs for an Asterisk server. What I have in mind is a dedicated server to serve 50 or so people. All users will use SIP phones and there will be an ISDN gateway for outgoing/incoming calls. Do you have any suggestions about the server specs (CPU, RAM, HD, etc)? Also, has anyone used Epigi Quadro ISDN gateway with Asterisk? If so, what is

how can I stress a server?
Hi all, I have a server, with an Intel DG35EC motherboard, Q9300 CPU, 8GB Kingston DDRII RAM which can't take a lot of load. I have 4 XEN VPS's on there, which doesn't consume more than 4GBM RAM at this stage. Yet, the machine sky rockets at some times. I've moved the XEN VPS's to another server, with 4GM RAM, and it doesn't cause the same problems. So, apart from

Running dovecot on embedded device?
Hi, I'm considering buying a QNAP TS-212 NAS and I wonder if this device is powerful enough to run dovecot too (there is a pre-built dovecot package available from QNAP)? The main goal would be that my mail is stored centralized on the NAS, where I can access it from multiple systems without ending up with mail scattered over each system (which is exactly what is happening now due to the

Supermicro SAS/SATA controllers?
The standard controller that has been recommended in the past is the AOC-SAT2-MV8 - an 8 port with a marvel chipset. There have been several mentions of LSI based controllers on the mailing lists and I''m wondering about them. One obvious difference is that the Marvel contoller is PCI-X and the LSI controllers are PCI-E. Supermicro have several LSI controllers. AOC-USASLP-L8i with the

annoying random Firefox crash - how to debug?
Hi, My firefox (Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.1.6) Gecko/20091216 Fedora/3.5.6-1.fc11 Firefox/3.5.6) on Gnome 2.26.3 will randomly crash, without any errors. /var/log/messages & /var/log/Xorg.0.log doesn't show anything that caused any errors. And it doesn't matter on which website(s) I'm busy with, it will just crash. Does anyone know how to check for a

Poor performance in Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II
Hi, So I'm going to be upfront about this: I don't know how to fix this problem or even who to talk to. I've tried the JK community, #winehq, #ati, and even the ATI forums, but no there was help to be offered. Here's the problem... Playing Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II (http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=122) on Wine, I get such horrid framerates

how to debug slow HDD performance in Windows 2003 domU ?
Hi I''ve recently setup CentOS 5.1 x64, with a Windows 2003 Web x64 domU and assigned 1 CPU & 1GB RAM to it. Today, which installing something in Windows, I notice that it takes ages to install a program. Running xm top, it doesn''t seem like it''s running out of RAM or CPU, and checking Windows Task Manager, I can see it consumes only 2 - 6% CPU, and 127MB RAM in

ashift and vdevs
zdb -C shows an shift value on each vdev in my pool, I was just wondering if it is vdev specific, or pool wide. Google didn''t seem to know. I''m considering a mixed pool with some "advanced format" (4KB sector) drives, and some normal 512B sector drives, and was wondering if the ashift can be set per vdev, or only per pool. Theoretically, this would save me some size on

Hard Reset Demo doesn't render textures
I've tried to run demo of Hard Reset and it has two big problems on Wine. First is that mouse isn't working. You get input only from keyboard but that can be solved with raw input patch. I used the one that is working with Deus Ex: Human Revolution: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6901628/raw2.patch but second is much worse. Basically almost all of the textures aren't rendered. It starts

SAS/short stroking vs. SSDs for ZIL
Hi, as I have learned from the discussion about which SSD to use as ZIL drives, I stumbled across this article, that discusses short stroking for increasing IOPs on SAS and SATA drives: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/short-stroking-hdd,2157.html Now, I am wondering if using a mirror of such 15k SAS drives would be a good-enough fit for a ZIL on a zpool that is mainly used for file

Also, all photo-content is unique, so I need some insuranse from single HDD crash. I understand,

Can this config sustain 30 users?
I have this server I need to put to work. The option I have is to make it work as a small office PBX with SIP users and a Digium E1 Card for PSTN service. 24 SIP users and one E1 card in an Intel 945board (533 Front side bus) with 1GB DDR 533mhz of ram, one Pentium Dual Core 2.66 ghz (FSB 533MHZ) and two 80GB SATA disks. Can the box sustain the load? I can add another 1gb of ram if necessary.

How to select a motherboard
Not being familiar with chip sets and other factors that "hardware experts" understand, I am perplexed with the multitude of available motherboards. Is there a Web site that can be of help or a "strategy"? My goal is to replace my motherboard with one that is Centos compatible and uses a Pentium 4 in the 2 MHz range. As example, when I go to Mwave, I am presented with
