Rails Wiki gets hit by the spam bots
I was just looking over the open source projects page on the rails wiki today, when I noticed it had gotten hit with several paragraphs of asian wiki spam. It looks like nearly all of today''s revisions were spam. When I was going through and deleting the spam, I found on some pages earlier english spam stuck in lists or divs using css''s display: none or height: 1 to hide

Scriptable way to edit yum .repo files?
Hello, Is there a standard programmatic way to manipulate yum configuration files, particularly the .repo files? I want to add things like "priority=..." per repo, or "check_obsoletes=1" to the priorities plugin config. I can cook specific search/append using perl or sed but was wondering whether there is a more elegant way. I found Perl's Conf::INI module but it

asterisk 11 and no RTP
I have a CentOS 6.3 machine I installed Asterisk 11, worked fine... I then tried to install on Cents 5.8, seemed to go fine... Then when I placed a call I got this: ast_rtp_instance_new: No RTP engine was found. Do you have one loaded? Did a search and found issues with ARM and this problem but did not help me, not using gtalk or anything. Just call between two polycom phones on local network.

revision numbers on translated articles
Good Evening. As the 'translation community' is growing I would like to suggest to add the 'revision number' of the original article on which the translation is based on, so someone else could easily diff to keep translations up to date. It would be great if translators add something like: 'translation based on #N' as footnote where N is the version of the original

Requesting unban from irc channel
man_in_shack banned me during a casual conversation where i was explaining my dual x server wine setup, saying I was contradicting myself. I obviously wasn't trying to contradict myself, if I did, and I don't see how this is ban-worthy under any circumstance.

extlinux reports "./extlinux: path /media/disk doesn't match device /dev/sda4"
Hello list, in a previous post I mentioned I had managed to make USB-Stick with 2048 byte sectors bootable. In fact I wiped out my Linux partitions bootrecord. This was with an old version of extlinux as still distributed by openSuSE. Interestingly enough the current version syslinux-3.61-pre2, spares my hard disk, but still seems to live under the impression it is the USB stick. The setup is

R and Data Storage
Where I work a lot of people end up using Excel spreadsheets for storing data. This has limitations and maybe some less than obvious problems. I'd like to recommend a uniform way for storing and archiving data collected in the department. Most of the data could be stored in simple csv type files but it would be nice to have something that stores more information about the variables and units.

syslinux does not interpret backslash
Hello list, while I managed to install syslinux and have it boot, there seems to be a problem with interpreting filenames. It looks for files in /boot but at the same time does not realize that the "/" is not part of the filename. It prompts me with boot: then every filename I type is set to 2 characters "." 3 characters i.e vmlinuz would appear as vm.lin. To me it looks like

[Fwd: Re: extlinux reports "./extlinux: path /media/disk doesn't match device /dev/sda4"]
How often is this the case ? ??? > If extlinux is the system bootloader, then often what you call the > system partition will be the one that should have extlinux installed on it. I think in most cases people try to make _some_other_ disk bootable. If I boot with extlinux as the bootloader why should I want to install it again ? Apart from that it would then require -u not -i. libsrtp package anywhere?
Hi list, I'm trying to create an asterisk 1.8 rpm with SRTP. I found mention of a libsrtp rpm, <http://qutecom.ipex.cz/RPMS/srtp-1.4.4-1.i386.rpm > in these instructions, <http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/Asterisk+SRTP> but it is unreachable (by me, anyway). The libSRTP source is here, <http://srtp.sourceforge.net/download.html>. Has this already been packaged for

Winbind cache problem after upgrade to 3.0.25b.
Have just upgraded from 3.0.14a to 3.0.25b. On starting winbindd it puts the following in /var/log/messages: initialize_winbindd_cache: clearing cache and re-creating with version number 1 All the winbind UID/GID mappings are lost and it starts again from scratch. Hence all file ownership / ACLs on this samba server become invalid. Anyone else seen this? Why does it see fit to destroy this

[LLVMdev] !!! 3.2 Release branch patching and the Code Owners
Hello, Recent code owner activities have led to what I would call loss of referential integrity in the CODE_OWNERS.TXT file. Changes are fine but the information in the CODE_OWNERS.TXT does not allow to positively identify code owner of the particular file or patch. The problem stems from the usage of the "description (D)" field which is overloaded with meaning. Most people put

Problems with building an rpm
I followed the setup instructions from http://www.owlriver.com/tips/non-root/ (link from the Centos wiki). All this is done on another 'clean' system, so I have to read the terminal screen there and tell what went wrong here. I then followed my colleague's instructions to get the tar, untar, autogen, configure, and finally make rpm. Well it was that make rpm command that finally
