Broadcom NetXtreme bcm5720 in the 9.1 beta
Team I have a Dell PowerEdge R720xd, with the Broadcom NetXtreme bcm5720. I found the following thread: http://forums.freebsd.org/showthread.php?t=31769 I find I am unable to use the NIC's (there are 4 on the server). When we put a cable into it we get a "watchdog timeout -- resetting" error, and the machine will pause for 5 or so seconds. IP may or may not come up randomly.

ZFS on a 11TB HW RAID-5 controller
Hello all, I am a complete newbie to OpenSolaris, and must to setup a ZFS NAS. I do have linux experience, but have never used ZFS. I have tried to install OpenSolaris Developer 134 on a 11TB HW RAID-5 virtual disk, but after the installation I can only use one 2TB disk, and I cannot partition the rest. I realize that maximum partition size is 2TB, but I guess the rest must be usable. For

Mounting LVM disk
List Readers - I have a Dell server that uses the Perc 6i controller and had 5 1Tb disks installed (1 for OS and the other 4 in a Raid0 for a large storage pool). The owner of the server wanted me to swap out the 1Tb disks for 2Tb disks - easy enough I thought, but I ran into some issues trying to clone the OS disk to the new 2Tb disk, so I just did a re-install. So basically we now have 5 2Tb

Seagate Constellation vs. Hitachi Ultrastar
Happy Friday, List! I''m spec''ing out a Thumper-esque solution and having trouble finding my favorite Hitachi Ultrastar 2TB drives at a reasonable post-flood price. The Seagate Constellations seem pretty reasonable given the market circumstances but I don''t have any experience with them. Anybody using these in their ZFS systems and have you had good luck? Also, if

RELENG_6_1
Hi, According to the webpage [1], 6.1 has been branched on April 5. However, I noticed that there is a tag called RELENG_6_1, not a branch called RELENG_6_1. For example, sys/conf/newvers.sh [2], rev 1.69.2.11, is on RELENG_6 branch with tag RELENG_6_1_BP and RELENG_6_1. It is a bit strange for me. At least, we have RELENG_X_Y branch before and RELENG_X_Y_BP tag. Is there any special reason that

New 'amr' driver and linux MegaMGR
Hi, according to http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/cvsweb.cgi/src/sys/dev/amr/amr.c?only_with_tag=RELENG_6 it seems MegaMGR for linux now can work. Any experience? -- Cris, member of G.U.F.I Italian FreeBSD User Group http://www.gufi.org/

Has anyone used a Dell with a PERC H310?
I''m trying to configure a DELL R720 (not a pleasant experience) which has an H710p card fitted. The H710p definitely doesn''t support JBOD, but the H310 looks like it might (the data sheet mentions non-RAID). Has anyone used one with ZFS? Thanks, -- Ian.

SCSI controller suggestions for a 5.x server?
We are preparing for a new file server (Dell 2970) with an external disk array with integrated RAID (raidking.com). The array presents via Ultra 320 SCSI. We are looking for anyone that has had experience or opinions on SCSI cards without RAID that have a good performance working under CentOS 5.x. Any suggestions/comments on the controllers with large storage especially at or above 2tb would be

New controller card issues
Running CentOS 5 (long story, will be updated some day). A 5 yr old Dell PE R415. Whoever spec'd the order, they got the cheapest, embedded controller. Push came to shove - these things gag on a drive > 2TB. So, we bought some PERC H200's for it, and its two mates. This morning, I brought the system down, and put in the card, and moved the SATA cables. This did not end well. The new

Yep, Dell's are good. And I do *not* want to buy from HP, because their support is nothing like good. And once you run out the warranty, they don't want to even let you

boot problem in HP Proliant ML370 G4
Hi, I have strange problem when booting FreeBSD-6.x in HP Proliant ML370 G4. The problem is "-" appears on the screen and it never boots unless somebody hits the "Enter" key. Sometimes even PS2 keyboard doesn't respond during that time. Tried with USB keyboard, same problem. The machine has dual Xeon 3.2 GHz, 1GB of RAM and LSI Logic (mpt-5.0.5.20.00 bios) LSI1030-IT

[LLVMdev] MIScheduler + AA: Missed scheduling opportunity in MIsNeedChainEdge. Bug?
Hello, While tuning the MIScheduler for my target, I discovered a code that unnecessarily restricts the scheduler. I think this is a bug, but I would appreciate a second opinion. In file ScheduleDAGInstrs.cpp, the function MIsNeedChainEdge determines whether two MachineInstrs are ordered by a memory dependence. It first runs through the standard criteria (Do both instructions access memory?

[LLVMdev] Question about callee saved registers in x86
Hi llvmdev, I'm trying to figure how llvm remembers stack slots allotted to callee saved registers on x86. In particular, llvm pushes registers in decreasing order of FrameIdxs [1], so the offsets they get (as returned by MFI->getObjectOffset) don't directly correspond to their actual stack locations. In X86FrameLowering's emitCalleeSavedFrameMoves, when emitting DWARF

Problem with 'nls' fitting logistic model (5PL)
Dear R-Helpers, I'm working with immunoassay data and 5PL logistic model. I wanted to experiment with different forms of weighting and parameter selection, which is not possible in instrument software, so I turned to R. I am using R 2.14.2 under Win7 64bit, and the 'nls' library to fit the model - I started with the same model and weighting type (1/y) as in the instrument to see
