WWDC Puppeteer lunch
Reminder for Mac Puppeteers going to WWDC How about we meet for lunch at noon on Tuesday. Let''s try to get the table closet to the Odwalla refrigerator, just for reference. We can get more specific on this list on the 8th after we verify the set up. I might even get there a little earlier and put down "reserved" tags. --- Thank you, Allan Marcus Solutions Architect Central

suppressing stderr output from system() calls
Dear list, I'm trying to suppress/redirect/squash the output from commands like install.packages, or download.file. The problem is that none of: sink(..., type="message"), sink(..., type="output"), capture.output, suppressMessages are quite doing the trick. Output gets written to the stderr stream, despite any combination of the above suppression commands. According to

Using RSpec to drive the design of a GUI desktop application
Hello everybody, I''ve been using RSpec as a tool to create web applications for some time now, in Rails, and using plain Ruby with WEBrick as well. The tool suits my needs and the story runner is great. Now there are things that aren''t solvable on the web, you''ll need a _real_ desktop application for those problems. So I''ve toyed a bit around with various GUI

How to send data,
Hello, First of all I''m new to working with sockets, so the problems I''m having are probably because of my lack of understanding. What I''m trying to accomplish is to create a mac os x client gui to ruby-debug. When a application that includes ruby-debug is started, it starts listening for 2 connections; 8989, 8990 The connection is made by calling the connectToApp

[LLVMdev] LLVM Logo
Hi All, I'm happy to announce that Apple has agreed to let llvm.org (and anyone else) use the great LLVM logo they designed for WWDC. If you're interested, you can see the full version of the logo on this page: http://llvm.org/Logo.html I personally think that this is a pretty great logo/mascot for LLVM, because it is very abstract, can be adapted in a variety of ways, is

Bug#23903: samba: samba maps username before authenicating with NT password server
Hi, I am the Debian GNU/Linux of the Samba package in this distribution. Today I received this bug report but since I don't use the authentication method this user mentions, I can't reproduce the problem. I heard Jeremy Allison said something about a bug in 1.9.18p8 regarding user mappings and posted a patch but since the patch is applied to the version of Samba this user is using, I am

[LLVMdev] May 2007 LLVM Developer's Meeting
All, Due to a number of scheduling conflicts we've settled on a date quite different from the original target: May 25th. This is a month earlier than previously estimated, but this date is now firm. May 25th was chosen because some of the organizers are traveling internationally in June, the Apple WWDC is in early June, we couldn't get a room, etc. June just turned out to be a bad

[LLVMdev] RFC: Criteria for backing out patches
Hi all, looks like the WWDC has been a nice success, but it is over now and all devs are back to normal mode. I have written up a very subjective blog post here <http://heisenbug.blogspot.com/2010/06/my-grief-with-out-of-tree-code.html> in which I ask for clarifications to the development policy wrt. backing out of buildbot-proven patches because of (unintended) breakage in external

Changing file permissions from NT
We run a Network of Suns (running Samba) and PC-NT (version 4, sp3) machines, at work, and find it very annoying to be unable to change the file permissions of files from NT on the Suns. Is there any way to change the permissions from NT file explorer or otherwise ? Dave Kirkby

R CMD INSTALL writes to stderr
Dear list, (this is a follow up from a previous query) Why does R CMD INSTALL write most of its messages to stderr? If it wrote to stdout, then we could capture its output within an R session when calling sink("stdout.txt", type="output") install.packages("MASS", type="source") sink() As it stands, the stderr messages can't be captured via

Unable to reload Rdoc
Dear list, I'm hoping the R guru's can help with an error i've been getting for at least a year during active package development. I have a package loaded & spot a documentation bug, so I: edit the Rd file (or in the roxygen header + roxygenize); then R CMD BUILD, R CMD INSTALL then in the same R session, reload the library & lookup a man page, I always get this error: Error
