ids writer fields for HABTM relationship.
Hello forum readers,
Let''s say i have two models: Person and Role (i replicated the problem
with Post & Tag as well, as i thought the problem was linked to some
application-specific rights problem, but it wasn''t).
In Person, attr_accessible role_ids is declared, so it accepts an array
of Role ids as an argument when creating / updating.
If i fire up the rails console and

HABTM: deleting records based on attributes
Hello All,
I am new to ROR, and can''t seem to get HABTM to cooperate entirely...
however I might be abusing it! Before I try a different strategy I
thought I''d ask here and see if I''m missing something simple.
So say Projects and Companies are related. Projects can have multiple

To Chris Hall - Re: DB Modelling the Rails way - Opinions??
Chris,
Finally got time to fully play with your suggestions. Had to re-code a
bit of stuff but the concept works - just like a bought one :~). Many
thanks for the solution,
Kind Regards,
Eric.

HABTM query return all results
I have a role-based authorization system exactly like the one from Rails
Recepies. I am looking to return all rights however in my view I want to
highlight the rights that are associated with the currently selected
role (passed in through @params[:id]).
Schema:
create_table "rights", :force => true do |t|
t.column "name", :string
t.column "controller",

Errors logged but not returned to browser, WEBrick hangs
An app I''ve been developing has been chugging along nicely, but around
the time I added a new join model a couple of commits ago, my
development environment has been acting screwy.
1. When there''s an error, the error messages and tracebacks are not
being returned to the browser. The browser keeps the connection alive
indefinitely.
2. Stopping the request from the browser

HABTM problem not saving all associations
Hello all,
I have an Order object that has and belongs to many Products and has
and belongs to many Loan Types. This is so I can select multiples of
each in my order entry screen via checkbox groups.
I''m having some trouble with saving multiple HABTM associations for a
single model object; only the first HABTM association declared in the
model will save during the initial @order.save

DB Modelling the Rails way - Opinions??
Hi,
I''m trying to figure the most efficient way to model the following. I
can think of at least two ways to relate the tables but from a
client/server perspective! I''m wondering how to best (and
elegantly)relate them from an AR perspective.
A project has many people,
A person can work on many projects at any time,
A project has many roles,
A role is performed by a person,

HABTM join table quirk
I''ve been bringing up a good basica framework for applications at work.
To give decent security I''ve been implementing the Rails Recipie for
Authorization of function calls modeled on the book''s implementation.
(Changes for our environment were added..but are minor.)
Since I initially let Rails create the join table between two data
tables with a HABTM relationship....I

HABTM: two habtm''s between the same two tables
Imagine I want to track people, and the clubs that they belong to.
table people with columns person_id, person_name
table clubs with columns club_id, club_name
And I have the association table:
table clubs_people with columns person_id, club_id
Now I know how to do this habtm between the two, in order to associate
people with clubs that they belong to.
However my application also needs a

Model.delete_all vs Model.destroy_all in a habtm
Hi there
I have an habtm association between 2 Models.
I regularly have to truncate the table on one side of the relationship
and repopulate the table with a fresh csv file.
I notice that f I do Model.delete_all, none of the records in my habtm
join table get deleted, whereas if I use destroy_all they do.
However, the overhead of using destroy_all is too great. For the
amount of records I have

Paginating HABTM?
Is there an easy way to paginate HABTM? Something like (which doesn''t
work):
@pages, @directories = paginate :directories,
:include=>:categories,
:per_page=>ITEMS_PER_PAGE
directories and categories have an HABTM association.

How do YOU read/update HABTM?
In my mind, it should work like this:
<%= select ''item'',
''category_ids'',
Category.find(:all).collect {|c| [c.name, c.id] },
{},
{:multiple=>true, :size=>20} %>
Then Rails should automatically populate and update HABTM on that. As it
is now, the above won''t work (I created a getter in item''s model that
returns an array of

How do you update HABTM relationships or create.
Hi,
I have a User model with a HABTM relation to a Role model and vice
versa. So There''s a roles_users table that references :user and :role.
I''m using formtastic, and in the user.edit.html.erb I have a line that
outputs the roles as a multi-select list box. But the box is not
showing the roles that have been assigned to the users.
Another problem is that if I select a few

extra attributes in habtm
Hi,
Posting here since issue tracking isn''t the best place to discuss.
I can understand habtm is moving towards deprecating support for extra
attributes in join_table, and to use :through for those cases instead.

"Stack Level Too Deep" issue in HABTM Unit / Functional Test
Hello guys. I was able to figure out that my "stack level too deep"
error I was getting with my HABTM destroy method was the result of a bug
in rails 1.0. I upgraded to 1.1.2 and now the views and any console-run
commands for destroying AR objects linked together via HABTM work just
fine.
I have HABTM setup between stories and submissions.
The issue is that the destroy methods in

rake craziness with Migrate as a dependency
Hi everyone,
For one of our projects we have a need to deploy and maintain a demo.
As a result I''ve attempted to setup a set of rake tasks for the job.
My goal is have one rake task called "deploy_demo" which purges the
database, migrates to the current schema, and loads the db from a set
of fixture files in a specified location.
I''ve written two new tasks the perform

HABTM testing - fixtures not loading?
Hi,
I have a strange problem with testing classes which have a HABTM
relation. It seems that while running my tests with rake the fixture for
the association table is not loaded - as a result I get a failure on a
test which simply checks the number of associated elements - it says
it''s 0 although there should be one. The weird thing is that when I run
the tests with rcov
