ustack() issues && correlating SIGSEGV activity?
Howdy, I was playing around with the malloc/free D script provided by Philip Beevers: http://www.opensolaris.org/jive/thread.jspa?threadID=4224&tstart=15 And decided to change the free:entry probe from: pid24169::free:entry / sz[arg0] / { printf("Freeing %p (size %d)\n", arg0, sz[arg0]); sz[arg0] = 0; } to: pid24169::free:entry / ! sz[arg0] / { printf("[ *

[DTrace] using C preprocessor in dtrace scripts

ustack()s of SIGSEGV''ed programs
Hi all, I am trying to write a D script which would print ustack() for every program in the system receiving SIGSEGV. All the stacks printed in trap()/sigtoproc() context do not have meaningful symbols. The following solves the problem to some degree but I''d much rather have a self-contained D script. dtrace -w -n ''fbt:genunix:sigtoproc:entry/arg2 == 11/ {

Can I use printa() for printing multiple agg regations?
Hi Bryan, > Does that sit well with everyone? Seems fine to me. Just revisiting one of Dragan''s points, though (sorry if I missed the answer) - is there a reason for making this global (via a #pragma) rather than, say, simply providing two functions which print in the different orders? e.g. printa() for sort by sample, printak() for sort by key. My reason for wanting to do both in

Using DTrace to locate memory leak
Howdy, I am attempting to isolate the location of a memory leak in a 4GL program, and have hit a bit of a snag. When I LD_PRELOAD libumem and run the application server, "::findleaks -fdv" reports numerous leaks: CACHE LEAKED BUFCTL CALLER 0000000100b49068 15 0000000100ef2d50 fdcon+0x6c4 0000000100b50028 1 0000000100b72ac0 fdcon+0x6c4 0000000100b49068

CPU time stats
hi, I am trying to find out the avg cpu time spent in each of my user methods (exclusive of other methods invoked by a method). Hence the following snippet failed miserably: ----------------------- pid$target:a.out::entry { time[probefunc] = timestamp;} pid$target:a.out::return { @spent[probefunc] = avg(timestamp - time[probefunc]);} END { printa(@spent);}

FW: Memory Leak Problem in My Application running on Solaris 10.
Hi, This is regarding Dtrace usability for memory leak detection. We have real-time application written C++ which runs on Solaris 10 having a problem that''s the my application grows in size from 130 Mb to 450Mb in around 15 days. So there is two possibilities with the application growth of memory due to Size growth of Dictionary Objects (Like Maps) and Memory Leak.

Building ustack() helpers on OS X without -G
I am trying to integrate John Levon''s ustack() helper for Python into the upstream Python sources. The method for doing this on Solaris is to compile the phelper.d script containing the helper into an object file using "dtrace -G". dtrace on OS X does not have "dtrace -G", just "dtrace -h". This works fine for USDT probes, but I am at a loss on how to

Project proposal for enhanced ustack/jstack
Hello, The Hotspot JVM Runtime group would like to put forth a project proposal to improve the capabilities of DTrace''s ustack()/jstack() actions to better handle non-standard user stack frames. This email will describe the background, the problem, and our proposed solution. We''re interested in getting a sponsor for this work to help us with the process of getting the

CPC provider - input welcome
Tracing Fans, I know it''s been a long time in coming but the CPU Performance Counter (CPC) provider is almost here! The code is currently in for review and a proposed architecture document is attached here for review. Any and all feedback/questions on the proposed implementation is welcome. Thanks. ustack() wrong in pid return probes?
I have a test program which has a call sequence of a(), b(), c(), d(). When I place a pid return probe on d(), I get a ustack that looks like this: a.out`d+0x19 a.out`b+0xd a.out`a+0xd a.out`main+0x3c a.out`_start+0x7a The c() method appears to be missing. I did some poking around and noticed that pid return probes

How accurate is "ustack"?
I have been doing some profiling using the profile provider. I have a command that runs more slowly on the T1000 than it does on prior systems and I am trying to find out why. Using the profile provider at 1000 hz, and aggregating on the ustack output, I find that the same function appears at the top of the stack on both platforms, but on each there are specific instruction locations within

Proxies
I really like the idea of Mock Proxies as explained in Brian Takita''s post here: http://pivots.pivotallabs.com/users/brian/blog/articles/352-introducing-rr I posted to this list eariler with an incomplete implementation of .stops_mocking in the thread "Mocking Time, delegating to original object." The Mock Proxy pattern would make this simpler.

multipl disk failures cause zpool hang
Hi, There seems to be a few threads about zpool hang, do we have a workaround to resolve the hang issue without rebooting ? In my case, I have a pool with disks from external LUNs via a fiber cable. When the cable is unplugged while there is IO in the pool, All zpool related command hang (zpool status, zpool list, etc.), put the cable back does not solve the problem. Eventually, I

Plotting the explanatory against the dependent in a GAM
? To whoever it may correspond, My name is Oscar Saenz and I am working on my thesis in Spain. I am using GAMs in "R" and, now that I have estimated my models, I need to plot the predicted smooth functions against the dependent variable (just as in Carlslaw et al. 2007, fig. 1*). Otherwise, I'd like to know how to plot the smoothed predictor variable values against the partial
