Dtrace Snooping
Dear dtrace Experts, I have seen some dtrace utilities like opensnoop and execsnoop etc. My interest is to write a simple script that can snoop the files which uses the 3 syscalls like open, create, unlink. I have gone through dtrace oneliners that can do the same : dtrace -n ''syscall::open*:entry { printf("%s %s",execname,copyinstr(arg0));}'' dtrace -n

[DTrace] Loose ends
G''Day Folks, I''ve rewritten execsnoop, opensnoop and shellsnoop so that they are wrapped in the Bourne shell to provide command line options (they have all lost their ".d" extensions, but the old versions are still online). They are rather more meaningful tools now. (Eg, I can run shellsnoop with "-qp PID" with the PID of a shell, and see only the characters

bcc tools and bpftrace packages misbuilt?
After upgrading to 8.1.1911, bcc-tools and bpftrace seem to be broken. Current package versions I have: bpftrace-0.9-3.el8.x86_64 and bcc-tools-0.8.0-4.el8.x86_64 Both of these seem to be pulling in LLVM version 7, rather than the version 8 that is in 8.1.1911: [root at localhost ~]# bpftrace bpftrace: error while loading shared libraries: libclangFrontend.so.7: cannot open shared object file:

OSX 10.6.4 error with -R option
Hi All, I have had reports of problems with the -R option on OSX 10.6.4. Just tested it myself and found this odd result: When I run this "dtruss -f path/to/rsync -aHAXNR --fileflags --force-change --protect-decmpfs --stats -v /Users/astrid/Documents/main.m /Users/astrid/Desktop/rrr it produces the expected results with the relative folder paths in place

expected system load from DTrace scripts/probes
Does anyone out there have any thoughts on the type of load common DTrace scripts would cause on a system if run 24x7? I know "common DTrace scripts" and their underlining probe calls a vague statement. So for the lack of a common and establish set of scripts in the OS, I''ll use the most popular right for my question...the DTraceToolkit from Brendan Gregg. Which by the

libvirt, OSX and VirtualBox - how?
I have a new OSX Lion Macbook and would like to control VirtualBox using "virsh" (as I do with KVM under Ubuntu). I've got this far: * Installed VirtualBox * Installed libvirt (brew install libvirt) But now I'm a bit stuck :-) I ran VirtualBox itself, and created a test VM successfully. If I try to use virsh, this is what I get: Brians-MacBook-Air:~ $ virsh -c

Oracle 9 process on Sol 10 container, doing a pollsys, using high CPU
We''re running a Solaris 10 container, with an Oracle 9.2.0.4 database - every 5-10 min, an Oracle process shoots up (using 20% + CPU) and then goes down in CPU %, doing a pollsys (see it via dtruss). I tried using some of the trace scripts in the Dtracetoolkit to see what the process is doing, but without any luck - also tried with the following, but dtrace process goes up to 30%

dtrace predicat
Hi, I''m a nub in dtrace, could you please help me to find the mistake? I need to implement the logic: - if PID and TID are defined, fire the probe for the particular thread of particular process; - if only PID is defined, fire the probe for the process including all threads. The predicat syscall:::entry / (pid == PID && tid == TID ) / works ok and return syscall for

MacOS parallel::makeCluster fails
Hi Thomas, thanks for your reply (and thanks for your patience...). I am now using the following minimal reprex: > library(parallel) > cl <- makeCluster(2L) I freshly started the machine and did not open any other app. Just R.app (3.6.1). After executing the second line of code, R seems to hang infinitely and does not respond. The R process itself uses almost no CPU. Unfortunately,

Asterisk and Cisco 7960
I'm trying to get my Cisco 7960 configured to work with Asterisk, with no luck. I'm sure I'm missing something very easy... since I know others have this working. I've stepped through Andy Powell's excellent "Getting Started with Asterisk", and it works for my X-Lite softphone. My sip.conf entry for the cisco looks like this: [cisco] type=friend username=cisco

Why does it appear that dovecot is deleting messages after migration?
Hi, y'all, long-time Mac OS X Server user Bill here with a thorny question for the mailing list since nobody at discussions.apple.com can quite put their finger on the answer. While well-aquainted with other aspects of Server, Dovecot is a bit of a mystery still to me. So here it goes: Background I'm struggling to migrate from MacOS X 10.6 to 10.9. I tried twice using the "live

Dtrace - Macros $1, $2, etc...
Unless I am missing something I cannot find a way to do a condtional check and handle it when a dtrace script is written with macros $1, $2 being passed to it, etc... In other words I have a dtrace script that can have parameters passed to it. Lets say $1 and $2 for example. I am trying to verity that there is or is not a value for $1 or $2 and adjust accordingly. I am finding that if use macros

imap-login hanging when firewall blocks ssl handshaking
imap-login processes are hanging (using 100% of CPU) when connected from a client that is partially blocked by a firewall. It appears that imap-login is stuck in a loop trying to complete an ssl handshake. imap-login is working fine for other clients not blocked by the firewall (including localhost). This is dovecot 2.1.10 under Mac OS X 10.8.2 (compiled from sources); the firewall is Little

Dovecot-2.1.14 - pop3 processes always hangs forever - another follow-up
Hello, With the same basic configs as in my previous messages, I tried with the maildir format instead of the mbox format. That is, in both cases ("virtual" uids/gids vs a single "real" uid/gid), doveconf -n shows: mail_location = maildir:~/maildir instead of: mail_location = mbox:~/mboxes:INBOX=~/mboxes/inbox Here too, with "virtual" uids/gids, connections thru

zpool version 3 & Uberblock version 9 , zpool upgrade only half succeeded?
We are currently experiencing a very huge perfomance drop on our zfs storage server. We have 2 pools, pool 1 stor is a raidz out of 7 iscsi nodes, home is a local mirror pool. Recently we had some issues with one of the storagenodes, because of that the pool was degraded. Since we did not succeed in bringing this storagenode back online (on zfs level) we upgraded our nashead from opensolaris b57

X100P Manually Answer
I have an X100P used, at present, largely for outgoing calls. It shares the single incoming POTS line with a number of analog phones. Is it possible to talk the X100P (Zap/1) to answer a ringing call only if I ask it to? I'd like to use only the SIP phone in my office, but let the analog phones continue to work in the rest of the house (until I can afford FXS cards anyway..) I can force

Using dtrace to snoop messages between two Streams modules
I''m working on a case where customer has a 3rd party streams driver/module, called uplink, which sits over Sun''s ce driver. This 3rd party module is used by the telco to perform telco grade NIC failover. The customer was given an IDR ce driver, to avoid a panic they were given. The IDR driver was successful in avoiding the panic, but now the customer is getting many
