ddi_pathname
Hello, I can see that there is an implementation/emulation of ddi_pathname in DTrace, but I''m a bit confused about the capabilities and invocation of this function. I would like to diplay the path to the block device from bdev_strategy and other io:genunix::start probes. If someone is familiar with ddi_pathname, could you please provide an example invocation? Thanks, Michael This

''zfs list'' output showing incorrect mountpoint after boot -Z
I installed snv_92 with zfs root. Then took a snapshot of the root and clonned it. Now I am booting from the clone using the -Z option. The system boots fine from the clone but ''zfs list'' still shows that the ''/'' is mounted on the original mountpoint instead of the clone even though the output of ''mount'' shows that ''/'' is

Probem creating a Windows XP HVM with snv_90
Hi all, I''ve just upgraded my OpenSolaris 2008.05 workstation to snv_90 after unsucessfully trying to get virt-install.sh to run on snv_86 and now have (I think) a more serious problem. In the xend-debug.log file I keep getting the following error repeated many times : Failed allocation for dom 8: 1 extents of order 9 ERROR Internal error: Cannot allocate more 2M pages for HVM guest.

IO probes and forcedirectio
Hi, I''m working on some performance analysis with our database and it seems that when the file system (UFS) is mounted with forcedirectio, the IO probe are not triggered when an I/O event occurs. Could you confirm that ? If so, why ? Seb -- This message posted from opensolaris.org

Possible ZFS Bug - Causes OpenSolaris Crash
I?d like to report the ZFS related crash/bug described below. How do I go about reporting the crash and what additional information is needed? I?m using my own very simple test app that creates numerous directories and files of randomly generated data. I have run the test app on two machines, both 64 bit. OpenSolaris crashes a few minutes after starting my test app. The crash has occurred on

Networking issues with OpenSolaris/Dom0 or VMware Fusion
Hi: I got OpenSolaris 2008.05 running as dom0 under VmWare fusion on my MacBook pro. Using the instructions from Dipleep''s blog http://blogs.sun.com/dkumar/entry/how_to_create_domu_in Everything seems okay except the networking. When booting OpenSolaris (without dom0) the pcn0 interface works just fine but when booting Solaris xVM version them pcn0 does not work (ie) I get failures

Solaris / OpenSolaris
I'm having some difficulties pxe booting Solaris. So far I have tried the mboot.c32, and the pxegrub shipped with Solaris. At first I had some problems with blksize, but this disapeared when I changed from atftpd to tftpd-hpa. The point at which I'm stuck now is, the kernel and x86.microroot/x86.miniroot is loaded but then VMWare crashes. I might try with real hardware, but I thought

zpool upgrade wrecked GRUB
Machine is running x86 snv_94 after recent upgrade from opensolaris 2008.05. ZFS and zpool reported no troubles except suggesting upgrade for from ver.10 to ver.11. seemed like a good idea at the time. system up for several days after that point then took down for some unrelated maintenance. now will not boot the opensol, drops to grub prompt, no menus. zfs was mirrored on two disks c6d0s0 and

New OpenSolaris Project: Mozilla DTrace
Hi folks - well we are officially live at: http://opensolaris.org/os/project/mozilla-dtrace/ Drop on by if you feel like trying out some mozilla dtrace probes. It''s early days, but we have working prototypes of layout and javascript probes. Hopefully these and other probes will be able to add value to both mozilla and opensolaris. Note: as we are working against mozilla head and are

OpenSolaris+ZFS+RAIDZ+VirtualBox - ready for production systems?
Hi all, I have been looking at various alternatives for a system that runs several Linux & Windows guests. So far my favorite choice would be OpenSolaris+ZFS+RAIDZ+VirtualBox. Is this combo ready to be a host for Linux & Windows guests? Or is it not 100% stable (yet)? Greetings, Evert This message posted from opensolaris.org

>1TB ZFS thin provisioned partition prevents Opensolaris from booting.
Not sure where to put this but I am cc''ing the ZFS - discussion board. I was successfull in creating iscsi shares using ZFS set shareiscsi=on with 2 thin provisioned partitions of 1TB each (zfs create -s -V 1tb idrive/d1). Access to the shares with an iscsi initiator was successful, all was smooth, until the reboot. Upon reboot, the console reports the following errors. WARNING:

Please warn a home user against OpenSolaris under VirtualBox under WinXP ; )
Pardon in advance my n00b ignorance. (Yes I have googled a lot before asking.) I am considering VirtualBoxing away one physical machine at home, and running WinXP as host (yes, as atrocious it may seem, explanation below [1]) and OpenSolaris guest as file server, with OpenSolaris (why?[2]) having raw access to all my SATA drives. (OSes on the IDE channel). This is for home use, as a media

tracing blocks behind I/O
Hi, I know how to trace the number of bytes read/written by a program by summing the argument of that read/write syscall. However, the way the OS services read/write calls is in blocks. I wonder if it''s possible to trace the actual number of blocks read/written caused by the syscalls? -- This message posted from opensolaris.org

OpenSolaris 2008.05 CIFS - "cannot share...smb add share failed"
Hi All, After a LOT of tinkering I eventually determined exactly where I am going wrong. It''s to do with the ZFS ACLs I am applying. Why this is resulting in the behaviour I am seeing, I do not know - perhaps someone can spell it out to me. To cut a long story short, this is how I am creating my file systems:
