Hi,
I'm new to R. Apologies if this is a simple query, I've searched the mailing lists and docs but can't find a solution to my problem.
I'm trying to make some packages available on our intranet. During development the 'intranet' is a webserver running on localhost.
* When I call "install.packages" I get a mesage about not being able to access 'index

Extracting Rails Model into a GEM
I presently am refactoring an a Rails App that has not only the
standard RoR web front end, but also agents which share the same model
and run on different machines. In the past the whole rails app was
just deployed on other machines even though only the model was used. I
am trying to improve the situation by extracting the model into a gem
which depends only on ActiveRecord and then requiring the

Identify internet/intranet connection
Is it possible to identify if someone is connecting my rails app through
the internet or an intranet?
I would like to enable web access only to a couple of users, others
should be able to login only when inside their intranet.
Thanks,
Klaus

Question w/intranet and internet
Greetings,
We are using a private class B behind a firewall for about 15 months and
all is well using Samba. However I notice a strange problem:
When the real Internet is down (namely our router to the internet) the
samba boxes (all of which are behind the firewall) do not function correct
(at a minimal no domain logons for 95/98)

MySQL gem vs RoR default library
I have Rails v 2.0.2
Ruby v 1.8.6
MySQL db v 5.x
I am confused as to whether we should use the MySQL gem or the RoR
default MySQL support library.
The consultants that had worked on the initial phase of the project
had me remove the gem saying that
it is better to use the RoR library, that the gem was necessary in
earlier version of Rails.
BUT, I get the WARNING below which says the opposite.

[HELP] RoR Fedena App Installation: Rake Gem
I''m really a newbie with RoR.
But I need to deploy this app as soon as possible.
RoR App: Fedena
RoR Ver: 1.8.7
When I type any rake commands I always encounter this problem:
rake aborted!
uninitialized constant ActiveSupport::Dependencies::Mutex
Locally, I did find the solution for this problem by downgrading my Rake
Gem version from 0.9.2 to 0.8.7.. The problem is installing it on

Can't use ruby-rtf gem
I''m new to ruby, rails, and gems, and trying to add an feature to a
RoR''s app so users can export a file, and then edit it using
Microsoft''s Word. (This is an app where telling folks to use
OpenOffice or some other editor isn''t really an option). So I
researched a little and think that using ruby-rtf to create rtf files
is the best way to go. However, I can

0.24.0 won''t start
Hi,
I am having a problem where puppetd won''t start on one of my RHEL 5
machines with the --listen option enabled. 0.23.2 seems to run fine but
0.24.0 dies leaving the pid file still there.
I installed puppet using the latest gem from reductive labs. It works
fine on what is meant to be an identical system.
I tried running strace and it seems to exit after trying to write to a

Can''t Install Rails with Ruby Gem Dependencies, OS X
Hello Community:
I''m a brand new user of Ruby on Rails, and am having a great deal of
trouble compiling from source. I''m using the tutorial at
http://hivelogic.com/articles/2005/12/01/ruby_rails_lighttpd_mysql_tiger
to complete the install.
Readline and Ruby installed just fine, and the Ruby Gems appeared to.
But when I tried to sudo gem install Rails --include-dependencies,

Production install (RoR + Oracle + IIS)
Hi.
Although an expert developer for IBM systems (iSeries) I am VERY new
to RoR and somehow to the PC development world as well and not
familiar AT ALL with PC configurations, etc. (in my regular job good
ol'' IBM takes care of all that and I just need to code). So forgive me
if any of the following sounds stupid, it probably is. Just get a

Mongrel and EBADF error consuming resources
In the last few weeks I''ve noticed the load average spiking up for 5
minutes at a time (2-3.5 on a system that usually runs around
0.5-1.5). Looking closer I found that one mongrel process and
litespeed are at the top, and using strace I''ve found that they''re
passing the file below, seems to get stuck on single file/EBADF error.

Cannot find gem for Rails error from dispatch.cgi
Hi All,
I''m developing a Rails app with Rails v1.1.4, but when I upload it to
Dreamhost and try to serve it with dispatch.cgi, I get the error "Cannot find
gem for Rails =1.1.4". However, I have installed the 1.1.4 gem in my home
directory and set GEM_PATH to look there; additionally, rake throws no errors
and "rails -v" displays "Rails 1.1.4". Any
