Controlling outbound bandwidth utilization by port
Among other things, I run an http server on my home DSL line (6M/768kbit). The content includes several large image galleries, and when certain crawlers hit our server w/ multiple large image uploads, we end up with large ping time delays - sufficient to disrupt the kids'' on-line gaming. Attempts to control this with robots.txt has not be very successful; Solaris IPQoS appears quite

trouble with maxbw
Folks, I''m playing with maxbw on links (as opposed to flows) in Crossbow, and I have a couple of questions. First, the limts seem only advisory. The first example has the main host talking to a zone that has 172.16.17.100 configured on znic0. When there is no maxbw, the throughtput is as expected; when maxbw is 55M the throughput only drops to 76 Mbps: # netperf -H

property parsing in dladm
I decided to take a stab at 6601421 dladm set-linkprop should support multiple -p options along with some related linkprop fixes, but when I looked into dladm.c, was surprised to find that "dladm_parse_props()" is called from do_create_aggr and do_create_vlan in addition to the expected (by me, at least) do_create_vnic *linkprop functions. What happened here? Why do we pass in

Link Properties text
Following is a short description on assigning priorities to a link (via dladm). Flows will have a similar mechanism (via flowadm). thanks, -venu ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The components associated with a link or flow, such as Soft Ring Sets, Soft Rings and squeues, have kernel threads processing inbound/outbound packets. dlstat for data link statistics
(Bcc''ed to networking discuss). Hi All, Have enclosed man page draft for dlstat(1M) herewith. This is part of the effort to gain better visibility into network traffic in light of crossbow features like virtual NICs, interrupt vs. polling modes etc. This in turn would greatly assist network performance analysis. It is also aimed at segregating link/flow configuration from

Using tun interface with dladm and flowadm
Hello, I am a rather new user to OpenSolaris and I have been loving every minute of it. I have spent quite a lot of time looking around for bandwidth management features and Project Crossbow is just amazing. It is truly amazing compared to what Linux has to offer. I would like to use flowadm to do some bandwidth management on a tun interface. The problem is that it is not recognized by the dladm

IPv6 version specific classification in crossbow
Hi all, As part of IPv6 version specific classification support in crossbow we are introducing ip_version option in flowadm interface and associated classification functions. If ip_version option is not specified, but v4 or v6 address is passed as arg. to ip_addr option of flowadm cli that can also help to populate version specific bits in flow_mask to specify if policy (and flow entry

mac_srs_rx_poll_ring thread never stop polling hardware in kernel
Recently I found that the mac_srs_rx_poll_ring thread may never stop in kernel, please see the following mpstat, cpu 2 is in 100% kernel usage, but no syscalls and no interrupts. RFE wish list
Actually, it is not a list.. but just something that''ll be very useful to me in my business. If crossbow/virtual interfaces can provide a flow that can capture bandwidth usage over a period of time (including 95 percentile), that''ll be great! Is this possible? -- This message posted from opensolaris.org

Updated Crossbow virtualization architecture document
Folks, I just posted an updated Crossbow virtualization architecture document. The new revision is available at: http://opensolaris.org/os/project/crossbow/Docs/crossbow-virt.pdf The main changes are the addition of support for multiple MAC addresses per client, and an explicit separation between consolidation private and project private MAC API entry points. See in particular the

[osol-code] GLDv3 NIC driver Performance on sparc
On 03/10/10 10:48 AM, Mahesh wrote: > Hi all, > > I need some help in debugging the gldv3 driver performance issue on sparc. The driver has single Tx queue and 4 Rx queues and performs at almost the line rate(10G) on Sun intel boxes but the same driver performs very badly on sparc. The code is identical for sparc and intel except swapping involved since the hardware is little endian .

NexentaStor 3.0.3 vs OpenSolaris - Patches more up to date?
I see in NexentaStor''s announcement of Community Edition 3.0.3 they mention some backported patches in this release. Aside from their management features / UI what is the core OS difference if we move to Nexenta from OpenSolaris b134? These DeDup bugs are my main frustration - if a staff member does a rm * in a directory with dedup you can take down the whole storage server - all with

maxbw minimum
The minimum is set at 1200Kbits/second. However, in testing, if I set that for a VNIC, the domU gets no traffic at all (maybe the occassional packet). Is the minimum too low? If I set a maximum of 2000Kbits/second, I get this from nicstat (expecting around 250Kbytes/s total: Time Int rKB/s wKB/s rPk/s wPk/s rAvs wAvs %Util Sat 04:35:38 xvm15_0 146.6 5.32 102.0
