Legacy database problem
Hi
I am trying to use Ruby on Rails to work with an existing database. The
problem is that, all the table names begin with a captial letter (e.g.
Products). So I did the following changes
in environment.rb, I''ve added under # Include your application
configuration below
ActiveRecord::Base.pluralize_table_names = false
In class Product, I''ve added

legacy support: removing underscore from table name.
I am using ms sql server and want to configure RoR such that it does not
convert the given table name (example: rubyonrails) to ruby_on_rails.
I set @@pluralize_table_names = false, so that it does not pluralize
the table names but cannot find the config setting which will force it
not to put underscore between words in a table name.
thanks in advance,

Pluralized Controller Names?
If I do:
script/generate controller Photo
I get a controller named photo_controller. OTOH, if I do:
script/generate scaffold Photo
I get a controller named photos_controller. (Note that the controller
name is pluralized).
I realize that I''m specifying the controller name explicitly in the
first case, but it seems
odd to me that the scaffold command generates a pluralized

Manipulating has_many :through associations
Hi,
I haven''t done any associations before, so please forgive my incorrect
use of terminology...
If I set up a has_many :through association, can I manipulate the
associated instances directly (like an Array), or do I need to
manipulate the join model?
For example, suppose I have two classes and the associated join model:
class foo
has_many :foo_bars
has_many :bars, :through

foreign_key setting ignored
I''m having a spot of bother creating a ''has_many'' relationship between
two legacy database tables. The relationship is ''company'' table has many
linked records in the ''contact'' table. Iv''e used ''generate scaffold'' on
these tables and everything is fine. I then decided to define the
relationship in the

Pluralization of non-noun names
People,
I have an insurance company client and for the last eleven years I have
wanted to completely redevelop their system from scratch. However, the
boss has never been interested in hiring a team to develop the new
system (partly because of the cost and partly because of some famous and
expensive development failures in the industry) and has always insisted
on incremental development of the

Active Resource and non default model names
I have a model (accessed restfully) named TranscoderQueue, it''s name
is overridden to ''TransocderQueue'' so it is accessed as ''/
transocder_queue'' as opposed to ''/transocder_qeueus''.

edge - scaffolds now pluralized?
Are my eyes going buggy, or did something recently change in Edge
Rails so that now scaffolds are generated with pluralized controller/
helper/etc names? I peeked at the code in
railties/lib/rails_generator/generators/components/scaffold/
scaffold_generator.rb
around line 50, and it looks like there was a change there recently
so that it now defaults to pluralized names. So why was this

Does Anyone know how to set the table name as "CR_Country" ?
One issue is there in connecting one schema(table) "CR_Country" and
"CR_Security" from this sybase Db.
I have set false for pluralize_table_name and also setting the table
name explicitly too as follow in the "environment.rb" :
======================================
ActiveRecord::Base.pluralize_table_names = false
class CR_Country < ActiveRecord::Base

AR::Base.pluralize_table_names doesnt work with scaffold generator, right?
Hi!
The script/generator scaffold for models doesnt respect (source in) this
config/environment.rb setup, right?
Because I can put in there ActiveRecord::Base.pluralize_table_names =
false but when I run a command like
ruby script/generate scaffold model Something
then it throws an error saying that my database scheme doesnt have a
Something. However there is a table called something.
If I

Prepending table names on a per user or sub domain basis
Here is a sample of the database structure I want to have:
someclientname-websites
someclientname-canned_responses
someclientname-canned_responses_websites
anotherclientname-websites
anotherclientname-canned_responses
anotherclientname-canned_responses_websites
As you can see I want to prepend the name of my future clients to the
table name so that they use completely different sets of data.

Serialized object behaves weird
Hi!
I got a class named EinsatzFilter which I serialized to session. Before
saving to session it works afterwards I keep getting the message:
"undefined method `to_s'' for #<Person:0x38c6ab8>". "Person" is a from
ActiveRecord::Base inherited class.
Code:
class EinsatzFilter
include ApplicationHelper

joining across databases in a find statement with include (legacy db)
Hi,
I have a legacy database ''old'' and a new database ''new'' which rails
uses. I set up models using old with establish_connection(old), and
this works well, except for include:
class OldModel < ActiveRecord::Base
establish_connection(old)
end
class NewModel < ActiveRecord::Base
has_one :old_model
end
a = OldModel.find :first
NewModel.find(:all,

Overriding Model Name
If I understand things correctly, by default, Rails expects both the
ActiveRecord class name and the model name (i.e., the name of the file
that contains the definition of the ActiveRecord class) to be the
singluar of the table name. How can I override this default behavior
with respect to the model name? That is, I would like to have the
file name of the file that contains the definition of the

Scaffold a Plural table w/ No Pluralization in environment
Hi guys,
I have a situation here. I have my project set to no pluralization due
to legacy tables in environment.rb. Now, I have some new tables which
I''m starting to pluralize. When I do a generate a scaffold to this new
table:
script/generate scaffold my_tables table
it seems to work out fine for certain sections like
http://mysite.com/railsapp/new (which also inserts properly to
