Kernel-loadable Root Kits
Thanks for the module, I think its a good idea to commit it to FreeBSD for a few reasons: 1) Some folks just prefer more static kernels. 2) Securelevel is a great thing, but can be a pain to do upgrades around remotely. [A lot of folks use FreeBSD simply because its a breeze to run remotely]. 3) Until someone writes code to add modules to a kernel via /dev/mem and releases it to the script

sysctl_out_proc() race in stable w/ patch
There is a rather serious race with copyout() and process termination in -stable. sysctl_kern_proc() loops through the allproc list writing the results to user memory. If it stalls during the copyout (e.g. the user memory has to take a vm_fault) and the process is ripped out from under it it will go looping into never never land. The solution is very simple, simply

Change syslog output
Hy! I receive an nxge driver messages on console: Aug 18 11:08:42 [hostname] nxge: NOTICE: nxge_ipp_eccue_valid_check: rd_ptr = XXX wr_ptr = YYY I find the bug description/correction at sun web page, and i know i can ignore it. I thinking about how can i delete from console only these messages (here is my first version, what is not (so) elegant): #!/usr/sbin/dtrace -qs #pragma D option

systrace for FreeBSD 5.1
I'm porting the most recent version of Neil Provos' systrace to FreeBSD 5.1. I'm sending him the diffs to integrate into his distribution. I'd also like to submit them to someone with FreeBSD for consideration, and hopefully inclusion as a port or whatever you prefer. Who could I send them to, or what would you prefer me to do with regard to FreeBSD? Thanks, Rich Murphey

RFE for lwpkill() action
Hi, I''m trying to use dtrace to signal threads in my app when certain events happen, and the raise() action seemed adequate -- looking at the kernel sources, it sends a signal to the currently executing thread, and a quick microbenchmark confirmed this. However, further testing showed that if lots of threads hit the event simultaneously, the signal only gets delivered once, and may also

usb support kernel changes
I have disabled all usb support in my kernel on todays cvs of -stable, and to my surprise i saw it load automatically as a kernel module; # kldstat Id Refs Address Size Name 1 4 0xc0400000 2cac68 kernel 2 1 0xc06cb000 628f4 acpi.ko 3 1 0xc318b000 1c000 usb.ko This is new behavior indeed, how can i disable usb support as before?

usb.ko is unloadable?
Dear colleagues, I'm planning to debug usb connection with my new SONY CLIE handheld, and found that this process is much complicated by the fact usb.ko module can not be unloaded 'cause some process is referencing it: marck@revamp:~/tmp> kldstat -v -i 11 Id Refs Address Size Name 11 1 0xc0cf7000 1b000 usb.ko Contains modules: Id Name

Getting GELI Keys from Floppy
Hello, i want to encrypt my HDD's with GELI (not the root-fs, though). I want to do the encryption without password, just with a key. The key should be stored in a floppy disk, and the read should be read automatically on boot, from the floppy. There is a problem here, because GELI initializes _before_ mounting the disks from /etc/fstab (for obvious reasons, of course). So GELI is not able

Horrible MeetMe performance
Hey folks, Using FreeBSD 5.2.1 and I've got the current zaptel driver installed from ports (0.8_1) and current ports asterisk (1.0.1). I've set options HZ=1000 in my kernel config, recompiled and rebooted and as far as I can tell, I've done everything right but when I try to use the conference, the audio is very delayed, choppy and segmented -- totally unusable.
