amazon ec2 and centos?
Searching through the archives, it seems this topic has come up
several times in the past 2.5 years. Did anyone ever take on the
tasks of creating an official CentOS AMI?
We're currently using the RightScale ones, but I think it'd be ideal
to have a clean CentOS AMI with the current kernels.
Karanbir, you seem to have been the one on CentOS side who has had
the most conversations with

mail_log & doveadm
Is there any way to have doveadm NOT log using mail_log, but have the
daemons do it?
(or have doveadm's log go to syslogd)?
Thanks!

Could not complete SSL handshake to Amazon EC2 host
Hi Brian,
Does "iptables -L" show anything of note?
I'm leaving iptables off in this host. Because it's an AWS EC2 host I'm
managing the firewall ports using the AWS security groups.
[root at ops:~] #service iptables status
Firewall is stopped.
But still, there's this...
[root at monitor1:~] #/usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_nrpe -H ops.jokefire.com

Linux 3.18.44 kernel with Dirty Cow fix (CVE-2016-5195)
Hello,
I think we should build and release a new 3.18 kernel for the VirtSIG / Xen users..
It seems upstream 3.18.y tree has a release with the Dirty Cow security fix included, 3.18.44:
https://kernel.googlesource.com/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/sashal/linux-stable/+log/linux-3.18.y-queue
(also includes a Xen SMAP/PVOPS fix).
Thanks,

with_libxl enabled.

Adding an 'official' CentOS image to the Amazon EC2 (Electronic Compute Cloud)
I'm starting to use the EC2 cloud (as are others) and noticed that all
the available CentOS images seem to be of dubious origin.
I think it would further the reputation and popularity of CentOS if it
were represented in an official way.
In case people aren't aware, when you create an AWS (Amazon Web
Services) account there's a management console that shows a list of
available images.

Puppetmaster/Amazon EC2/DNS
Hi,
I''m using Amazon EC2 and I''m planning to use puppet to deploy automatically
my instances, however, I have an issue I can''t rely think through.
As most people advised, I used a DNS server (bind to be precise) so that my
instances can register to it but also ask this DNS Server the IP of the
puppetmaster. However, as this DNS server is also running on Amazon EC2

Linux kernel 3.18.12 and libvirt 1.2.15 for Xen4CentOS in virt6-testing
Thanks to work from Johnny, linux 3.18.12 with all the x4c blktap
goodness have been built and are now in the virt6-testing repo. I've
also uploaded libvirt 1.2.15. As you may have seen earlier today,
virt6-testing also includes an updated 4.4.2 package with the latest
security update (XSA-133).
The kernel has had some basic testing (by myself, Johnny, and another
community member), but

SE Michigan asterisk users group
I am thinking of getting an asterisk user group together for either SE
Michigan or just Metro-Detroit.
How much interest in asterisk in Michigan is there on this list?
I am already on the board of glimasoutheast, with is a group for
technology professionals. (very broad range)
It is a spin-off from Automation Alley, which is SE Michigan's version
of Silicone Valley.

CentOS Amazon Machine Image?
I am totally new to AWS.? There was a posting here ~ a year ago making
claims about setting up a CentOS image on AWS.
I have created a free AWS account and am looking at the available images.
None are named CentOS.? There is a Redhat Enterprise Linux 8 and
Amazon's own Linux and SUSE, Ubuntu, but I don't find CentOS.
This is a learning endeavor.? I was thinking to first set up a BIND

[PLEASE HELP] Trying to install wine in Amazon AWS EC2
I looked everywhere for information on how to install wine in the Amazon AWS cloud.
Can somebody please point me to some working binaries and which AMI to use? And possibly some installation instructions?
I'm just trying to run some simple Windows console applications (from MS-DOS)... nothing fancy. But wine just doesn't want to install or run in AWS. Surely many people have

Xen and Enomaly
Hi list,
Right now I''ve to find some graphic (or web!) interface to administrate
our new data center infrastructure who will be running over Xen.
I''ve been googling around to find something, and looks like Enomaly is a
good choice.
Can anybody give me some feedback about this? Or maybe recommend another
front-end interface?
Thanks in advance.
Boris.

Amazon Marketplace AMI
Hi,
the updated Amazon Web Service AMI (ami-4ac6653d) has a serious bug.
It is not possible to resize a disk after creating a new volume with a size greater than 8GB.
resize2fs does nothing.
The previous AMI worked perfectly but is no longer available. This bug is a show stopper
for using CentOS on AWS.
Regards,
Thorsten
PS: It would also be great to have a CentOS 6 AMI with HVM

Running Icecast2 behind Amazon Elastic Load Balancer (ELB)
Hello,
I'm writing to see if anyone here has had any success running Icecast2
(specifically I am using 2.4) on Amazon EC2 behind an Elastic Load Balancer?
I have the ELB configured to do TCP loadbalancing rather than HTTP. I am
able to connect and to stream music via the ELB, but when I disconnect, the
listener count in Icecast does not decrease. On examining the state of the
sockets table

Xen 4.4.3 packages available in virt6-xen-44-testing
So first of all, if you've used the CBS before, please note the name
change -- it's no longer virt6-testing, but virt6-xen-44-testing.
Easiest way to install:
rpm -ivh http://cbs.centos.org/repos/virt6-xen-44-testing/x86_64/os/Packages/centos-release-xen-7-7.el6.x86_64.rpm
This will set up yum repositories for both the eventual release
repositories (enabled by default), and the

Could not complete SSL handshake to Amazon EC2 host
Hi Eric,
Thanks for your reply. I do have nrpe running under xinetd on the host I'm
trying to monitor.
And running the nrpe checl locally:
[root at ops:~] #/usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_nrpe -H localhost
NRPE v2.15
[root at ops:~] #grep only_from /etc/xinetd.d/nrpe
only_from = 127.0.0.1 216.120.248.126
And I do have port 5666 open on the security group for this host.
