The RPC server is unavailable on Samba 4 clients
Hi,
I used to upgrade/migrated samba 3.3.10 to samba 3.4.17 with LDAP backend
in place, while upgrading the CentOS from 5.5 to 5.9. In place to retain
the trust relationship.
The users can able to login without re-authentication from existing
machines. Tested 3 XPs, and 3 Win7 but it takes 5-8 mins to login compared
to 1 win7 that was re-connected (disconnected from domain, restart, then

X509v3 Subject Alternative Name in puppet generated certs...
I''m trying to split out my certificate authority and have one CA and
multiple masters, currently using round robin DNS, possibly using
HAproxy later.
Got most of the way there but tangled up in names and certificates.
When the Puppet CA generated it''s certificate the PTR record for it''s
IP pointed back to it''s domain name ("henson") and it had a CNAME

[Fwd: Re: OpenSSH and X.509 Certificate Support]
Hi Roumen,
I discovered that the need of appending the .pub part of id_rsa(client
key+cert) on the server can be eliminated by adding the Certificate Blob
to authorized_keys which could look something like this:
x509v3-sign-rsa subject=
/C=FR/ST=PARIS/L=DESEl/O=SSL/OU=VLSI/CN=10.244.82.83/emailAddress=client at company.com
This is extracted from the client certificate using openssl as

Getting 8.3 samba short filenames in linux
From a windows client it is easy and fast to obtain from a samba share
both the long filenames and the short 8.3 names by using DIR /x. Is
there a way for a Linux client to obtain this same information swiftly
for a large directory listing - or indeed for the samba server to show
this information? The only way I have found is using smbclient's altname
function but I seem to have to call

Need help getting roaming profiles to work
Hi!
First, let me apologize for the length of this message. I wanted to
include as much relevant info as I could and it got a bit lengthy.
For reasons that I won't bother to detail here, I ended up
volunteering to upgrade the server at my kids school. It's a small
private school with an all-volunteer tech support staff (me!). We
currently have about 40 computers serving about 150 people.

CentOS7 Minimal installation on Vmware missing network interface
Hi there, I'm playing with CentOS 7 (don't know if it's recommended at all
have this one as a development server as maybe is not stable enough yet)
and I installed it on a Vmware VM with two network interfaces: one as a
bridged connected directly to the physical network and replicating the
network state and the second one as a host only interface (the one I use to
manage the VM) so

Resolv.conf with multiple adaptors on multiple networks
Hi All,
I did a clean install of CentOS 5.3 yesterday. During setup I
activated both adapters on startup. etho is my public IP and eth1 is
my private/internal IP.
It did not let me specify nameservers though.
So I know this is resolv.conf.
I know I put in:
nameserver xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
nameserver xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
But how do I put in nameservers for specific networks? Example, I want

Citing an article from R News
The editorial in Volume 1/2 of R News requests that we cite articles
in R News by using the ISSN 1609-3631 and the URL
http://cran.R-project.org/doc/Rnews/. Could someone provide a sample
BibTeX entry, say for Brian Ripley's article on "Installing R under
Windows" from that issue? I am using the natbib package, if that
matters.
I would start with

Converting coordinates to actual distances
Hello,
I've been searching for a method of converting Lat/Lon decimal
coordinates into actual distances between points, and taking into
account the curvature of the earth. Is there such a package in R? I've
looked at the GeoR package, but this does not seem to contain what I am
looking for. Ideally the output would be a triangular matrix of
distances.
Thanks in advance,
Paul Brewin
