Hi Everyone, Just want to get out another ping on the Mongrel pre-release saga. I''ve updated a bunch of the documentation to include documents people have donated and to beef up the FAQ for most of the questions people have asked over the past month. I''m using the latest Mongrel (0.3.13.4) and restarting causes Mongrel to die. Mongrel 0.3.19 -- The Gnostic MIME Type Release
Hello All, I''m putting out a quick half-release because there''s some work on the MIME types I''ve included that needs to be done by all of you. Read at the end to understand your role in what you started. This release features two major capitulations on Mongrel''s stance of not being a full web server. The first is Mongrel now sports a YAML file with 739 MIME

mongrel.pid disappearing
Hi to everybody, This my first post on the list. I''m a newby of mongrel & rails, I''ve deployed my first project and everything seems to work fine, the only problem I have is the following: After about 1 or 2 days of the mongrel_rails daemon running the mongrel.pid in the log directory disappears, the mongrel process is still there running but doesn''t respond

Multi apps in one Mongrel instance
Hi, It would be nice if Mongrel would do multiapps in one Mongrel instance. For the moment, I have one Mongrel for each app of my server, each on a different port. For example: http://server:8080/app1 http://server:8080/app2 instead of: http://server:8080/ http://server:8081/ Is that planned? Thanks. -jec -- JeSC - Software et Consulting Jean-Eric Cuendet Ing?nieur HES en

Excessive CLOSE_WAIT sockets, pound
Hello, I''m experiencing a strange, but very bad behavior with Mongrel 0.3.13.4 and Pound 1.8. Every 6 hours or so one of our nine (not consistent on which one) application servers ( each one running several mongrel processes ) will start leaving lots of socket connections with pound open. This leads to "Too many open files" errors. I''ve set pound to close connections

What I Want For Christmas
Calling All Mongrel Minions! I wanna have some fun and would like this as a Christmas present. The site http://www.workingwithrails.com/ has this lame popularity system that''s kind of irking some of the main Ruby contributors. I think it''s kind of funny, but would like to demonstrate what an army of motivated people can do to these kinds of popularity contests. So, as a

How many mongrel servers should I run in my cluster?
The company I work for is launching a new web site tomorrow. News of our launch will be published in major publications throughout the week so I want to make sure we are prepared for the load. Production Environment: HP Proliant server w/ 8GB RAM and dual AMD64 Opterons Memcache is used as the session and fragment store (512MB for it) MySQL is running on a seperate server in the same rack We use

Determining ideal number of Mongrels for an app?
What''s a rule of thumb for guesstimating how many Mongrels to use in a cluster for an app? I have an app that gets about 5000 unique visitors per day. I figured I''d give it plenty of Mongrels -- twenty to be specific. After running out of memory and hitting the swap periodically, I scaled it back to five and it still seems to serve up visitors fine. So, is there some super-secret

Setup with Apache 2.2 proxy balancer : timeout during uploads
Hi all, I encounter timeout errors during file uploads in my Rails application. I think the problem may be in the Mongrel configuration. Here is my setup: * Load balancer (Cisco CSM, my provider''s Catalyst 6509) * Apache 2.2.3 with mod_proxy_balancer * Mongrel 0.3.13.3 * Rails 1.1.6 * Ruby 1.8.4 * MySQL 5.0.22 * file_column I host an application in which users may upload medium files

proxying and mongrel 0.3.13.4
I have been running a proxied mongrel-hosted app behind apache 2.0 (don''t need clustering) for several months, and loving it. In that instance, I am proxying the root of the virtual host to mongrel. I am now in a situation where I need to proxy a directory name to mongrel for a new application, and not having any success. I saw Zed''s mention of the --prefix option in 0.3.13.4,

[ADV] "Mongrel: Serving, Deploying, and Extending Your Ruby Applications" BOOK
Time for some all time pimpage folks. Me and Matt Pelletier wrote a small PDF book on Mongrel entitled: "Mongrel: Serving, Deploying, and Extending Your Ruby Applications" since we really wanted you to know what it was about. It''s published by Addison Wesley Professional, has just over 100 pages of goodness, and is available for $14.99 at: http://safari.oreilly.com/0321483502
