RSpec-1.1.0 is released
The RSpec Development Team is pleased as glug (that''s kind of like
punch, but more festive) to announce RSpec-1.1.0.
Thanks to all who have contributed patches over the last few months.
Big thanks to Dan North and Brian Takita for their important work on
this release. Dan contributed his rbehave framework which is now the
Story Runner. Brian patiently did a TON of refactoring around

Attachment-fu + Story Runner
Hi all,
I''m trying to run a Story Runner integration test that uploads a file
through Attachment-fu.
I''ve tried various ways of specifying the file data, from custom mocks:
class MockFile < Struct.new
(:original_filename, :read, :content_type); end
fdata = MockFile.new "test_upload.txt", "Test Upload", "text/plain"

I am trying to create a messaging system for my users but I''m having a
hard time designing my db. This is what i have in mind, but I am not
sure if its the best approach.

inbox has_many messages
outbox has_many messages

Broken edge
Hi all,
Not sure if I''m the only one with this problem...
We''re on edge for both rails and rspec, and i just did an update...
Some apparently innocuous rails stuff was updated, and then half my
specs broke due to an error in rspec_on_rails:
ArgumentError in ''UserController without logged in user should show
the index page''
wrong number of arguments (2

Renaming RailsExample to RailsExampleGroup
Fyi, I made the following renames:
* RailsExample -> RailsExampleGroup
* FunctionalExample -> FunctionalExampleGroup
* ControllerExample -> ControllerExampleGroup
* ViewExample -> ViewExampleGroup
* HelperExample -> HelperExampleGroup
* ModelExample -> ModelExampleGroup
This was done to keep the naming consistent with ExampleGroup.

test emails did not arrive at SMTP server : after dovecot installation
Just set up postfix & it's running on my RHES 4.2 box.
Immediately after postfix is up, I test sending emails from a permitted
domain
(ahhh, on this postfix server's domain firewall, we even have a firewall
rule
which permits Tcp25 from those few sending domains' SMTP servers) using
an email client to sender_id@[IP_address_of_the_postfix_server] & the

ActiveRecord, spec''ing find has right :order parameter
I''m wanting to write a spec that a model is applying an :order option
to a find call, but I don''t want to completely specify all of the find
parameters.
So I want to write something like this, say in a controller spec
User.should_receive(:find).with(:all, hash_with_at_least(:order =>
''user.name ASC''))
get ''index'', :sort =>

Rails sessions in plain text stories
Ok, maybe I''m being particularly thick, but I''ve been trying to find
the solution to this for a couple of hours now and I just can''t seem
to be able to do it...
I''m trying to write a step as such:
Given("user $email is logged in") do |email|
user = User.find_by_email(email)
session[:user_id] = user.id
end
This is the way it would

Autotest''ing specs on non-rails app
I''m having trouble using autotest with rspec on a non-rails project.
my Rspec gem is version 1.0.8, ZenTest is 3.6.2
project structure
$ ls *
lib:
parser.rb
spec:
parser_spec.rb
autotest finds and runs the spec, but it won''t detect changes to lib/parser.rb
I know it''s something stupid, but...

Which rspec for rails 2.1RC1?
I''m working on porting our app. Do I need to upgrade rspec from 1.1.3?
If so which version.
BTW the installation doc at
http://rspec.info/documentation/rails/install.html seems to be stuck
in the pre-git days.

specs on private methods
How does a person test private methods?
Is there a way to declare them as private, but retain any tests that
were written during the initial development?
Thanks.

Problems running features with Textmate Cucumber bundle
I finally plunked down for the beta RSpec bundle and I''m working
through the initial example. Although I''m a fairly experienced RSpec
user, I''m stlll learning new tricks.
Anyway, I''m going though the mastermind example, and everything is
going well, except that I decided to also try out the Textmate bundle
for Cucumber. I decided to use Ben Mabey''s

Branching scenarios, GivenScenario and database
I''m trying to use stories to drive some high-level design.
I''ve got some branching scenarios where I want to follow a scenario,
to establish a base situation, and then have different scenarios which
''branch'' out from that state, possibly several levels deep.
I asked a bit about this a few days ago, and David pointed out the
rather undocumented GivenScenario

Assumption tests
Hi all,
I''ve been thinking about the whole validator/relationship speccing
issue, and I came up with a suggestion, which I''d love to get some
feedback on.
The full article is available at http://www.inter-sections.net/

relevant bit being about halfway down, but here''s the gist of it:

attachment_fu and story runner, any updates
I''m trying to write a story for a Rails app which involves using the
attachment_fu plugin to upload images.
After blunting my pick on this for a while, google found me this:
http://www.ruby-forum.com/topic/134743#600831
So it seems that there''s a hole in Rails integration testing and
multipart form posting. David offered to incorporate a patch to story
runner at the end of the

Class method not being stubbed
Hi guys. I''m setting an expectation on a class method. For some
reason, the method isn''t being stubbed, and the expectation isn''t
seeing the call.
In KeywordListsController#create, I call the private method
#create_keywords_and_associate, which calls AdSenseHeavenParser#parse
.
Thus, some of my specs set an expectation on AdSenseHeavenParser#parse
. However, that
