Clarifications wanted for ZFS spec
I''m reading the "ZFS On-disk Format" PDF (dated 2006 -
are there newer releases?), and have some questions
regarding whether it is outdated:
1) On page 16 it has the following phrase (which I think
is in general invalid):
The value stored in offset is the offset in terms of
sectors (512 byte blocks). To find the physical block
byte offset from the beginning of a slice,

striping with ZFS and SAN(AMS500 HDS)
I have Storage-SAN of HDS(AMS500), and I want to do striping on luns from the storage. I don''t want any raid-5(because I have one on the disks in the HDS storage).
I only want to do strip on 2 luns(25GB each) that cames from different controllers and deffrent fiber channel port(dual HBA).
I test the preformance by writing 512MB in to the zfs, with 2 luns striped(each lun from diffrent

Physical Clone of zpool
Hi
We have following scenario/problem:
Our zpool resides on a single LUN on a Hitachi Storage Array. We are
thinking about making a physical clone of the zpool with the ShadowImage
functionality.
ShadowImage takes a snapshot of the LUN, and copies all the blocks to a
new LUN (physical copy). In our case the new LUN is then made available
on the same host as the original LUN.
After the

How many "rollback" TXGs in a ring for 4k drives?
Hello all, I found this dialog on the zfs-devel at zfsonlinux.org list,
and I''d like someone to confirm-or-reject the discussed statement.
Paraphrasing in my words and understanding:
"Labels, including Uberblock rings, are fixed 256KB in size each,
of which 128KB is the UB ring. Normally there is 1KB of data in
one UB, which gives 128 TXGs to rollback to. When ashift=12 is

OT: headless fanless silent 2 HDs micro server/pc...
Hey,
A bit out of topic but I am looking for a micro server/pc if anyone knows a descent one...
I found many nice NAS but I would like to have full access to the OS (install CentOS, etc).
Dream one would be
- Very quiet (fanless) since it will sit in my bedroom.
- Headless
- Small.
- 2/3 HDs (2.5" are ok) for RAID1 (hardware RAID would be nice, and with BBC even more).- 1 or 2 GB NICs

Need Help Invalidating Uberblock
I have a ZFS pool that has been corrupted. The pool contains a single device which was actually a file on UFS. The machine was accidentally halted and now the pool is corrupt. There are (of course) no backups and I''ve been asked to recover the pool. The system panics when trying to do anything with the pool.

zpool version 3 & Uberblock version 9 , zpool upgrade only half succeeded?
We are currently experiencing a very huge perfomance drop on our zfs storage server.
We have 2 pools, pool 1 stor is a raidz out of 7 iscsi nodes, home is a local mirror pool. Recently we had some issues with one of the storagenodes, because of that the pool was degraded. Since we did not succeed in bringing this storagenode back online (on zfs level) we upgraded our nashead from opensolaris b57

The ZFS MOS and how DNODES are stored
ZFS documentation lists snapshot limits on any single file system in a pool at 2**48 snaps, and that seems to logically imply that a snap on a file system does not require an update to the pool?s currently active uberblock. That is to say, that if we take a snapshot of a file system in a pool, and then make any changes to that file system, the copy on write behavior induced by the changes will

space_map.c ''ss == NULL'' panic strikes back.
Hi.
Someone currently reported a ''ss == NULL'' panic in
space_map.c/space_map_add() on FreeBSD''s version of ZFS.
I found that this problem was previously reported on Solaris and is
already fixed. I verified it and FreeBSD''s version have this fix in
place...

x4500/x4540 does the internal controllers have a bbu?
Has anyone worked with a x4500/x4540 and know if the internal raid controllers have a bbu? I''m concern that we won''t be able to turn off the write-cache on the internal hds and SSDs to prevent data corruption in case of a power failure.

New TDM400P no dialtone
Hello,
Does anyone know what may be causing this? Asterisk was built from cvs
tonight. Ztcfg also says us is an invalid tone zone. Anyone got some
information on what this is, why is it happening, and possibly some
solutions?

SIP X100P Echo Problems
Like most others on this list I also have some really annoying echo whenever
a call goes out to the PSTN from a SIP phone...
SNOM/Budgettone -> Asterisk -> X100P -> PSTN
I have tried every echo canceler in the makefile and turned on and off
aggressive suppressor etc. etc. etc. tried 32,16,128, and 256 bridgetaps and
I can get it reduced to only a few seconds on the intro of the call and

Undo/reverse zpool create
Hi,
If I add an entire disk to a new pool by doing "zpool create", is this reversible?
I.e. if there was data on that disk (e.g. it was the sole disk in a zpool in another system) can I get this back or is zpool create destructive?

zpool import is trying to tell me something...
I recently had an X86 system (running Nexenta Elatte, if that matters -- b101 kernel, I think) suffer hardware failure and refuse to boot. I''ve migrated the disks into a SPARC system (b115) in an attempt to bring the data back online while I see about repairing the former system. However, I''m having some trouble with the import process:

Software FAX
Everyone,
Just thought I would drop a line telling everyone here I have the software
RxFAX/TxFAX up and running without any real problems. I did have to.....
RH 9.0
1) Install an audio devel rpm
1) install libtiff from source, and copy over a bunch of include files to
/usr/local/include
2) build/install spandsp
3) move app_rxfax.c and app_txfax.c to apps/ dir in asterisk source tree.

Has anyone gotten the voicetronix boards to work with Asterisk, what

my system (solaris b77) was physically destroyed and i loosed data saved in a zpool mirror. The only thing left is a dettached vdev from the pool. I''m aware that uberblock is gone and that i can''t import the pool. But i still hope their is a way or a tool (like tct http://www.porcupine.org/forensics/) i can go too recover at least partially some data)

SIP and ECHO
Hello,
I have read the information on echo and SIP in the FAQ and I have
scoured the mailing list for possible solutions, but as yet I have not
been able to get rid of this echo.
I have a Sip phone, Digium 4 Port FXS, and 3 Digium FXO cards installed
into an asterisk server. If I call between the Sip Phone
(Budgettone-100) and the 4 FXS ports everything sounds great. If I call
out to the PSTN
