couldn''t get available bandwith
Hello all. We have three tunnels over the internet between our "central" gateway and some branch office gateway. Each gateway has eth0 on its LAN an eth1 on the internet. We use DSL lines and eth1''s have the internet IP directly attached on it. Each gateway, also, acts as iptables NAT gateway. The outgoing bandwith is 300 kbit, and we tried this (i.e.) on each tunnel: tc

Windows SMB2 client doing excessive, inefficient SMB2 Find (and other) requests
Hello Jeremy, Andrew, All, I can now indeed confirm that my test scenario runs MUCH faster when executed against a Windows 10 SMB2 server than against Samba (test scenario takes ~ 18 seconds using a Windows SMB2 server as opposed to ~ 300 seconds when the server is Samba 4.6.5). But, most interestingly, the reason for these performance gains is NOT - as assumed by Jeremy - that the number of

SMB2 Negotiate Request
I am using samba 3.5.4 (and have tried 3.5.6) and have noticed that samba does not respond to SMB2 negotiate requests. If I use a SMB request to negotiate SMB2 it works fine. Does anyone know if there is there a reason for this, or is it a bug? I have tried searching for an answer but haven't been able to come up with anything. thanks, Mike

Does samba-3.6.7's libsmbclient supports SMB2 protocol?
Hi, I'm using libsmbclient library built from source3 directory of samba-3.6.7. When I connect to a vista/2008 server using this libsmbclient library, communication is happening in SMB1 protocol and NOT in SMB2. Please note that I've enabled SMB2 by adding following line to smb.conf max protocol = SMB2 Does libsmbclient library built from source3 directory of samba-3.6.7 supports SMB2?

[quick question] smbclient -m smb2 not working
Greetings list, I just upgraded to samba 3.6.0 trying SMB2. Though Windows 2008 R2 can work with SMB2 shares just fine, I'm unable to access SMB2 shares with mount.cifs or smbclient, even with "-m smb2" specified -- I get this "Unrecognised protocol level smb2", whereas smbclient comes with samba-client-3.6.0-63.1.rpm. So is this supported yet (from client side) or I

smbclient against win7 server cifs/smb2
When lmcompatiblity level is set to 5, against a window7 server, source3/smbclient fails to authenticate with error NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE using cifs server signing = enabled client signing = enabled client ntlmv2 auth = yes Am I missing something in either smb.conf setup or Windows7 settings for it to fail for me? And not sure whether source3/smbclient works with smb2

Running and testing SMB2 under RHEL 5 and RHEL 6
Good morning, folks. I've been driving myself to distraction trying to test out SMB2 performance under Linux. I see that the Samba on RHEL 5 is relatively old, I'm dealing with an upstream NetApp fileserver that is configured for SMB2, so I've got clients to test. The Samba on RHEL 5 is relatively old, 3.0.33, with samba3x-3.5.4 alternatively available, and cifs-utils-* available

Which version do I need for SMB2?
First off, I'm a little confused but I've been trying to do some research and still have some questions... (please forgive me!) I'm trying to figure out the "best" (ie. fastest) way to connect from Ubuntu to Windows Server 2008. I can use SMB, SMB2, or NFS.

No Access after enabling SMB2
Hello, i have a Samba Server running on CentOS 5.6 with samba package 3.5.8 from SerNet. Shares can accessed until I enable max protocol = smb2, after that no access is possible. In the samba logfiles such an access is logged with: Failed to parse NTLMSSP packet, could not extract NTLMSSP command Followed by a dump_data. Any ideas? Cheers, Daniel

New minimal SMB2 client library !
Ronnie Sahlberg, Samba Team member - has written a new small-footprint SMB2/3 client library. Compiled size is 120KB (yes, that is *KB*, not MB :-). It supports signing, sealing, NTLM authentication (and krb5 with external libraries). It has *no* dependencies (other than the afore-mentioned krb5 if you need it) and is available for checkout and hacking at: git clone

Can vista client can negotiage smb2 protocol with the samba server?
Hi, I have a specific question about the SMB 2 (or CIFS 2 version protocol). SMB2 was introduced with Microsoft Vista and is a redesign of the older SMB protocol. (http://wiki.ethereal.com/SMB2) Is current samba 3.0.xx release (or samba 4 release) support this protocol when vista client tries to establish session with the samba server. What are the features or advantages of getting this

Windows 7 with smb2 can not connect as guest ?
Hello, on our servers we have shares with no authentication required (no DC, security = share, guest ok = yes). Worked fine for years, but now with Samba 3.5.4, when I enable smb2, Windows 7 clients can not connect anymore to these shares. Looking at the logs, I can see : [...] [2010/08/25 10:13:08.058358, 3] auth/auth_sam.c:399(check_sam_security) check_sam_security: Couldn't find

I've the error : init_smb_request: invalid wct

a new world | smb2
Hi Samba list! I was very excited that SMB2 is finally working with samba 3.6.0 - great job!! I just know that SMB2 has a smaller command set compared to SMB1 and this, beside many other rebuilds of the code makes it faster As I am completely new to the file transfer protocol world, I want to ask a few basic things: - is Samba backward compatible ... xp can't use SMB2 as far as I

Did anybody test smbclient4 against smbd4 using SMB2
Dear everybody, I want to give a shout "Did anybody test smbclient4 against smbd4 using SMB2". I failed to do so. I always got the error NT_STATUS_REVISION_MISMATCH. I don't believe that my configuration is wrong. I am checking the source code, but I really want somebody to tell me if they have done it and succeeded. Thanks Jun

smbclient using smb2 protocol linux-2-linux share
Trying to get a linux samba file server using samba 4.0.3 (compiled on the machine) running on ubuntu 3.8rc6 kernel to share out and negotiate with a linux client running the same kernel and smbd compiled from 4.0.3 samba source. Using wireshark to view the negotiations, I only see NT LM 0.12 (SMB v. 1). Tried forcing the file server via "min protocol = SMB2" in the
