Fwd: Samba HOWTO Collection
Thanks. I'm wondering if I can avoid storing NT-hash (that unsalted
MD4) of user passwords, and still be able to join a Windows Server
2022 server to the domain, and authenticate users with samba.
Maybe I should read some documentation and open another thread.

how to set valid allowed workstation logins
I'm having trouble setting the Workstations value on a tdbsam backend
using pdbedit. I can't seem to find the correct syntax to accomplish
this.
I found some references in an older version of the HOWTO where there
existed "Chapter 10. Account Information Databases". This whole chapter
is missing from the current HOWTO even though it is referenced in the
newest version (a

HowTo Chapter12 Group Mapping and LDAP
Hello,
I have a question about the documentation of the Samba Howto's. Specifically, I am not able to understand how group mapping ties into LDAP. I believe I understand the concept of unix to windows group mapping as laid out in chapter 12 as it relates a tdbsam, but get confused when dealing with a ldapsam back-end. There is a note listed " When the passdb back-end uses LDAP

New Printing Howto collection is soooo good!!! (I learn a lot from theory)
Hi, I must say that i admire very much the printing documentation written by
one of your samba team. I wish
every documentations is like this! -- It explains to a newbie like me what
I need to know. It is amazing: i read
it and in my head a few questions start to go round. I read 1 page more and
the questions are answered. It is not
good that the other documentation pages of the howto

[Fwd: Samba-3 By Ex Chapt 3]
One more thing I forgot to mention. The chapter calls for editing
/etc/resolv.conf, but in my case it won't stay edited--it keeps getting
set back to an original form (for searching my ISP) on every reboot.
Thanks again.

I don''t get the List application example to function as expected. When
i fill inn a name, and presses "Add Item". The button gets gray, the
text "Adding..." is coming up, and the item is being written in the
top of the page, but then it freezes here.

Samba-3 HOWTO and ref. guide - need clarification please - printing chapter
Could someone who is familiar with the book "Samba-3 HOWTO and reference

and who is also familiar with printer setup please give me some advice...
I am summarising the procedure for setting up a printer for automatic
driver download

There are a couple of processes mentioned that look very similar and I am
wondering
if both steps are required for

samba howto: sticky bit on directories
Hi List,
The Samba Howto Collection http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/AccessControls.html#id2611229 says:
"When the set user or group ID bit (s) is set on a directory, then all files created within it will be owned by the user and/or group whose `set user or group' bit is set. "
while i cannot repoduce this behavior the wikipedia says:

How current is the HOWTO collection?
When a new version of Samba is posted, is the HOWTO COllection updated,
or does the Samba Team rely on the community to spot anachronisms and
report them as bugs?
I'm struggling with a new install of Samba that's more complex than
I've tried before, and I keep the two Samba dead-tree books open on my
desk -- but if the online docs in the tarball are more current than the
books,

[Fwd: problems with ppp]
Hi,
I installed CentOS 3.3 and kept the machine up2date.
I installed poptop and the newest ppp-cvs version (
ppp-2.4.3-0.cvs_20040527.6)
We are running a ssh + ppp tunnel for our internet tunnel/tunnel to our NOC.
After the upgrade we see these error messages while starting the tunnel:

Samba-Guide chapter 10
Hi John T. et al.,
here is my comment about the Samba-Guide chapter 10.
In my opinion this chapter is a good place to explain the nature of Samba:
joining the unix and the windows world by mapping.
In most of the cases discussed on this list a unix server is used only as a container
for the windows world. The Samba team tries to smooth the differences between unix and
windows and to put windows

Doco conflict (smb.conf(5) vs. HOWTO-Collection)
Hi all,
There seems to be a conflict in the online documentation as to the
'security =' level and the 'add user script'.
http://ie.samba.org/samba/docs/Samba-HOWTO-Collection.html#AEN1146
says that you have to have 'security = user' in order to have
Samba behave as a PDC. Further on :-

it says

Typo in Samba HOWTO collection example 19.2
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hi,
Since the samba-docs mailing list is closed, I figured this was the best
place to post this.
I believe there's a typo in example 19.2 ("Overriding global CUPS
settings for one printer") of the official Samba HOWTO collection. The
"print command" parameter in the [special_printer] section contains
several echo commands,
