updated samba 4.18 & 4.17 packages for debian & ubuntu to address trust issue with windows 10/11 update 07/2023
Replying here as well, since this is a frequent question. I uploaded the updated samba packages to the official debian archives in parallel with updating my repository - exactly the same source packages as are used to build samba for my repository. 4.18 should already be available on sid/unstable, I think. In trixie/testing it will migrate within 5 days if nothing other breaks. Updated bookworm

Hi! Thank you very much for the great work and for the agility. I updated my two main DCs and it solved my problem, which was the connection from one server to another through SQL Server Management Studio using integrated login, now after the samba updater, the connection is working again. Thanks Michael for doing this, I've used your patch ( fix-unsupported-netr_LogonGetCapabilities-l2.patch ) to also update my RHEL8 packages for 4.17.9 ( [1] ). With this patch of yours and these rpms the trusted connection shows up as 'Good' as it was previously. As usual, if anyone's interested in providing feedback for these rpms, I'll gladly take it. We just made the updated packages available in the official debian bookworm archives, see https://lists.debian.org/debian-stable-announce/2023/07/msg00000.html (yes, it is exactly the same package as has been available from my repository, just built within debian infrastructure instead of my local). Thanks, /mjt

First, thanks so much for doing this. I used Louis's packages previously and was in a quandary about what to do when those stopped getting updates. Having you fill that gap has been super nice. Thanks! ? Second. I'm on Ubuntu (22.04) I'm currently using your MJT repo. ? I note you list official debian repos that are part of the official debian system... And that would perhaps be better

Correction. This is not my patch, this is a patch by Stefan Metzmacher (and I kept his name in there in this file), which is available at the samba bug about

Updating samba version 4.17.5 to version 4.17.6 from Debian backports - armel architecture
I have several devices, mostly amd64 and armhf architectures, all of which updated samba to 4.17.6 without any problems. But one which is armel architecture failed to update; instead I get the following when I try to update: root at goflex:~# samba -V Version 4.17.5-Debian root at goflex:~# apt update Hit:1 http://ftp.uk.debian.org/debian bullseye InRelease Get:2 http://ftp.uk.debian.org/debian

vfs ChDir failed: Permission denied
Just upgraded a file server to Samba 4.17.9-Debian and Bullseye (Debian 11). Noticed that am now getting a number of errors in the smbd log: 'chdir_current_service: vfs_Chfir (a-directory) failed. Permission Denied uid=................ The uid on all the entries seems to correspond to a computer/machine account if I look it up with 'wbinfo --uid-info'. Thoughts? Thank you

Since oldstable-bpo archive in debian is always subject to manual backports-policy processing (all uploads are processed manually), I don't push stuff to oldstable-bpo often. On the other hand, this

Updating to Samba Version 4.19.5 via Debian Bookworm Backports
Hi After seeing that Bookworm Backports has now got Samba version 4.19.5, I decided to update my samba machines. However, I find that those running on AMD64 architecture, the update doesn't appear. Machines running on arm architectures (armel & arm64) are updated correctly. I haven't changed anything in the /etc/apt/samba.lists file and previous updates have worked fine. Is

samba debian & ubuntu builds
Hi! After providing samba builds for several debian and ubuntu releases for over 1.5 years, I see this service is quite popular still. However, I'd love to understand how useful it is still, and which releases should be provided in the future. For example, samba 4.16.x series is end-of-life, there has been no updates for it for quite some time and none planned, either. Yet people do have
