Website running slow and Timing Out, but at random...
I have a site running the current version of Centos 4.2, it has a
shopping cart running on it and runs slow and times out at random. The
cart is a simple php package using a MySQL database backend.
Can any one think of ways to improve the speed in MySQL and Apache, I've
had the cart checked by the software vendor, it's working like it
should, they are pointing to MySQL or Apache and

Timeouts connecting via POP3
I'm experiencing timeouts from time to time from both Mac Mail and Outlook
when connecting to my server. I originally suspected that it might be
process # related, so I increased the auth & login process counts but that
hasn't seemed to make a difference.
I'm running 1.0rc10 which came with my DirectAdmin control panel. I'm
wondering if this problem is known and was fixed in

2.3.4 doesnt compile on FreeBSD 11.2 using clang
extract below, this has already been reported a while back but still
no new patch, so this email is to serve as a reminder, if someone
manually fixes it for the ports tree, I dont consider that a fix,
ideally we need this fixed in the source code, as not everyone will
install it from ports.

Hello,
I have DirectAdmin system installed with CentOS OS. I created a user and a
user email account. Then I tried to send email from my website (which is
written on PHP5) to my mailbox. Everything seemed ok, but I did not
received letter on the mailbox.
The same is wehen I am trying to send through webmail SquirrelMail.
I got a record on var/log/mailog:

Wiki ControlPanels page
Hello,
My name is Travis Northrup. I would like to contribute documentation on
CentOS compatible control panels. I have 12 years technical experience and
have used most if not all control panels currently available, free and
commercial. The main control panels that I can immediately begin documenting
are Virtuozzo, OpenVZ, cPanel, Plesk, DirectAdmin, Webmin. Others I can
begin documenting as I go

init.d scripts not starting at boot
I have just deployed a new CentOS 6.4 image on AWS, and I'm having issues
with init.d scripts not starting up.
I've verified the following;
1) They work on their own after boot
2) They're set to run at runlevel 3,4, and 5 via chkconfig
3) The system boots up in runlevel 3 (no GUI)
4) There are no lingering PID files around after boot
5) Permissions

SATA on Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro2 MB
Hi Gang!
I've got this (now old) Gigabyte motherboard (GA-7N400 Pro2), I've had it
for just over 3 years.
I use it, so far, with only PATA devices.
I'm toying with the idea of buying a matched pair of SATA drives and when
I install Centos 5 (hopefully soon), building it with software raid (using
the two drives as mirrors of each other).
Now, I wouldn't have ever even thought of

Intel 875P/ICH5 motherboard chipset
Does anyone know if support for the Intel 875P/ICH5 motherboard chipset
has yet made it into the stable branch? (Is release 4.9 likely to have
it?) I am mainly interested in the IDE and "native" serial ATA devices.
There is also a new Intel ethernet controller chip, 82547EI, that is
designed to interface directly with the 875P chip. The currently
supported chip list only goes up to

PCI passthrough of a SATA/PATA controller, "FLR functionality not supported"
Hi there,
I have a question regarding PCI passthrough on the Citrix XenServer 5.6
(Xen 3.4.2).
I already managed to get some soundcard passed through to a Windows
guest. So I think my knowledge about that topic isn''t _that_ low. But I
cannot seem to pass through a SATA/PATA controller to a Linux guest.
I have some additional CD/DVD burner (PATA) attached to a SATA/PATA
controller

Cannot get CentOS to install
I used google but did not come up with anything current to solve my problem.
I have not tried any other search engines yet.
There is not a search for the CentOS list so I am creating a new post.
I have tested the CentOS 5.2 and RHEL 5.3 CD's and they passed.
I had to use linux mediacheck ide=nodma to get them to pass.
The newest releases seem to most times fail with just linux mediacheck.

core 2 duo motherboards and centos 4
from my googling around, it doesn't look there is a single motherboard
that supports core 2 duo and works without patches or tweaks. is that
true? the main thing we want is:
core 2 duo support
4g of 800mhz (or better) ram
sata
gig ether with pxe boot
we can live without pata or usb for a while.
we've tried intel 965 and asus p5b based boards with various levels of

Mixing SATA & PATA Drives
I suspect it''s probably not a good idea but I was wondering if someone
could clarify the details.
I have 4 250G SATA(150) disks and 1 250G PATA(133) disk. Would it
cause problems if I created a raidz1 pool across all 5 drives?
I know the PATA drive is slower so would it slow the access across the
whole pool or just when accessing that disk?
Thanks for your input.

Boot disk order: h/w vs. grub
I'm still having conceptual trouble with this one.
I have two PATA and two SATA disks in my home system. When the system
comes up, these are, espectively, /dev/hda, /dev/hdb, /dev/sda and
/dev/sdb. I have the boot order of the drives in the boot PROM set to
boot from /dev/sda (hard drive 2), then /dev/hda (hd 0), and usually
that works fine. /dev/sda is properly set up with the MBR and

Any special option to debug kernel just freezing?
Use syslinux 6.03 for my g4l disk imaging project, and it works great.
Have just had a user that has a new thinkpad t440p system and it load the

it freezes at a point with no error message just stops?
Originally, the last thing

Dovecot + Exim + Maildir quota problem
Hi all i'm a new user of this list, i got a server with DirectAdmin
which has exim as MUA, dovecot as POP/IMAP server, recently i added the
quota to exim and pointed the maildirsize file in the same location if
the dovecot's one so both services can interact with it. This has been
done to let exim update the quotas while doing localdelivery while
dovecot can show quotas through

Installing CentOS on RAID PATA not SATA - A8V
I'm trying to install CentOS 4 on an A8V on the
PATA/Raid drives on the Promise controller. The
Promise controller is recognized (sata_promise), but
the PATA drives are not recognized. Base on this
thread
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=147303
it seems that there is a patch which was merged in
2.6.11 to get pata working.
Any ideas how to proceed?
Thanks in advance
