ZFS Boot Won''t work with a straight or mirror zfsroot
Using build 70, I followed the zfsboot instructions at http:// www.opensolaris.org/os/community/zfs/boot/zfsboot-manual/ to the letter. I tried first with a mirror zfsroot, when I try to boot to zfsboot the screen is flooded with "init(1M) exited on fatal signal 9" Than I tried with a simple zfs pool (not mirrored) and it just reboots right away. If I try to setup grub

drbd using zfs send/receive?
hi everyone, I am planning on creating a local SAN via NFS(v4) and several redundant nodes. I have been using DRBD on linux before and now am asking whether some of you have experience on on-demand network filesystem mirrors. I have yet little Solaris sysadmin know how, but i am interesting whether there is an on-demand support for sending snapshots. I.e. not via a cron job, but via a

cloning disk with zpool
Hello the list, I thought that it should be easy to do a clone (not in the term of zfs) of a disk with zpool. This manipulation is strongly inspired by http://www.opensolaris.org/jive/thread.jspa?messageID=135038 and http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/zfs/boot/ But unfortunately this doesn''t work, and we do have no clue what could be wrong on c1d0 you have a zfs root create a

ZFS Boot for Solaris SPARC
Hi, Searching this alias I can find a number of guides and scripts that describe the configuration of Solaris to boot from a ZFS rootpool. However, these guides appear to be Solaris 10 x86 specific. Is the creation of a ZFS boot disk available for Solaris SPARC ? If so, could you point me in the direction of where I can obtain details of this new feature from. Thanks and Regards, Paul. PS:

Any fix for zpool import kernel panic (reboot loop)?
My system (a laptop with ZFS root and boot, SNV 64A) on which I was trying Opensolaris now has the zpool-related kernel panic reboot loop. Booting into failsafe mode or another solaris installation and attempting: ''zpool import -F rootpool'' results in a kernel panic and reboot. A search shows this type of kernel panic has been discussed on this forum over the last year.

[LLVMdev] Re: gcc like attributes and annotations
Hi Mike, hope you are doing well with the llvm gcjx backend. I am currently writing an llvm backend for a C like language for tracing (like D in dtrace). I am very interested in this area. Do you currently put your work in a repository? (maybe as Tom suggested gcjx.sf.net would be an easy start - since it would not require gcc committer status). I am keen on getting LLVM support for gcj. Maybe we

Templates and self-knowledge
So, I''m into templating. I *like* templating. What I *don''t* like, of course, is to have to use multiple, similar templates for different output files. So, let''s work a concrete example. Suppose I have a template "standard_profile.erb" which looks like this: install_type initial_install > > system_type standalone > > partitioning

[LLVMdev] Re: gcc like attributes and annotations
This is a interesting thread. I think this would also help with compiling scripting languages such as JavaScript/Python etc. We could keep the high level meta data and runtime binding info as language specific bytecode in the file and just have the parts that are easy to represent as compileable in the main object sections. There is no intrinsic reason for all the runtime type information to get

[LLVMdev] question about gccld and external libraries
hi, I'm really new to llvm. I've successfully bootstrapped llvm-14 on my system and am able to successfully compile c code to llvm. the problem is now that gccld is complaining that it can't find the libraries, like "c" or "crtend". [1] all is fine, if I just use intrinsified functions like printf and friends, but I want to use the clock_gettime function and

[LLVMdev] LLVM projects: Change framework
hi all, I have used LLVM extensively over the last 2 years. I have realized a so called change framework that based on the LLVM framework. Basically it is a framework that augments the JIT to understand "changes", such that a mutator process can formulate changes in a change language (inspired by DTrace's D), which is too compiled to LLVM and sent to the application process.

Plugging in a hard drive after Solaris has booted up?
Hi guys, I have a quick question, I am playing around with ZFS and here''s what I did. I created a storage pool with several drives. I unplugged 3 out of 5 drives from the array, currently: NAME STATE READ WRITE CKSUM gpool UNAVAIL 0 0 0 insufficient replicas raidz1 UNAVAIL 0 0 0 insufficient replicas c8t2d0 UNAVAIL 0 0

Root Mirror - Permission Denied
I have a system that I''m trying to bring up with a mirrored rpool. I''m using DarkStar''s ZFS Root Mirror blog post as a guide (http://darkstar-solaris.blogspot.com/2008/09/zfs-root-mirror.html). When I get to step 3 I execute: pfexec prtvtoc /dev/rdsk/c7d0s2 | fmthard -s - /dev/rdsk/c7d1s2 I get: fmthard: Cannot open device /dev/rdsk/c7d1s2 - Permission denied Any
