cross platform (freebsd) zfs pool replication
Hi, I have two servers running: freebsd with a zpool v28 and a nexenta (opensolaris b134) running zpool v26. Replication (with zfs send/receive) from the nexenta box to the freebsd works fine, but I have a problem accessing my replicated volume. When I''m typing and autocomplete with tab key the command cd /remotepool/us (for /remotepool/users) I get a panic. check the panic @

Extremely poor ZFS perf and other observations
I''m observing the following behavior in our environment (Sol10U2, E2900, 24x96, 2x2Gbps, ...) - I''ve a compressed ZFS filesystem where I''m creating a large tar file. I notice that the tar process is running fine (accumulating CPU, truss shows writes, ...) but for whatever reason the timestamp on the file doesn''t change nor does the file size change. The same is

Need SAN suggestion
Hello, It is not total off-topic since almost all connected servers will be RHEL and CentOS. :) We are considering to purchase new storage system. The most probably we will be choosing between HP (EVA6000), EMC (CX3-20C) and Hitachi (similar model). iSCSI connection is also required. What are your experienced with listed systems? What to avoid? What ot expect? Now I just know

Configuring a 3510 for ZFS
Hi folks, Myself and a colleague are currently involved in a prototyping exercise to evaluate ZFS against our current filesystem. We are looking at the best way to arrange the disks in a 3510 storage array. We have been testing with the 12 disks on the 3510 exported as "nraid" logical devices. We then configured a single ZFS pool on top of this, using two raid-z arrays. We are getting

ZFS High Availability
I''m looking for input on building an HA configuration for ZFS. I''ve read the FAQ and understand that the standard approach is to have a standby system with access to a shared pool that is imported during a failover. The problem is that we use ZFS for a specialized purpose that results in 10''s of thousands of filesystems (mostly snapshots and clones). All versions of

Need help making lsof work with ZFS
I contacted the author of ''lsof'' regarding the missing ZFS support. The command works but fails to display any files that are opened by the process in a ZFS filesystem. He indicates that the required ZFS kernel structure definitions (header files) are not shipped with the OS. He further indicated that he rummaged through the OpenSolaris source tree and the files doesn''t

ZFS near-synchronous replication...
Anyone have any creative solutions for near-synchronous replication between 2 ZFS hosts? Near-synchronous, meaning RPO X--->0 I realize performance will take a hit. ZFS panics solaris while switching a volume to read-only
Hi, I just found out that ZFS triggers a kernel-panic while switching a mounted volume into read-only mode: The system is attached to a Symmetrix, all zfs-io goes through Powerpath: I ran some io-intensive stuff on /tank/foo and switched the device into read-only mode at the same time (symrdf -g bar failover -establish). ZFS went ''bam'' and triggered a Panic: WARNING: /pci at

zfs and EMC
Hi there, have a strange behavior if i?ll create a zfs pool at an EMC PowerPath pseudo device. I can create a pool on emcpower0a but not on emcpower2a zpool core dumps with invalid argument .... ???? Thats my second maschine with powerpath and zfs the first one works fine, even zfs/powerpath and failover ... Is there anybody who has the same failure and a solution ? :) Greets Dominik

EMC migration and zfs
We are going to be migrating to a new EMC frame using Open Replicator. ZFS is sitting on volumes that are running MPXIO. So the controller number/disk number is going to change when we reboot the server. I would like to konw if anyone has done this and will the zfs filesystems "just work" and find the new disk id numbers when we go to zfs import the pool. Our process would be: zfs

zfs mirroring question
I create two zfs''s on one pool of four disks with two mirrors, such as... / zpool create tank mirror disk1 disk2 mirror disk3 disk4 zfs create tank/fs1 zfs create tank/fs2/ Are fs1 and fs2 striped across all four disks? If two disks fail that represent a 2-way mirror, do I lose data? Brian.

Oracle database on zfs
Hi, I am wondering if there is a guideline on how to configure ZFS on a server with Oracle database? We are experiencing some slowness on writes to ZFS filesystem. It take about 530ms to write a 2k data. We are running Solaris 10 u5 127127-11 and the back-end storage is a RAID5 EMC EMX. This is a small database with about 18gb storage allocated. Is there a tunable parameters that we can apply to

zfs and jbod-storage
Hi. I''m managing a HDS storage system which is slightly larger than 100 TB and we have used approx. 3/4. We use vxfs. The storage system is attached to a solaris 9 on sparc via a fiberswitch. The storage is shared via nfs to our webservers. If I was to replace vxfs with zfs I could utilize raidz(2) instead of the built-in hardware raid-controller. Are there any jbod-only storage

ZFS with SAN Disks and mutipathing
Hi, I just deploy the ZFS on an SAN attach disk array and it''s working fine. How do i get dual pathing advantage of the disk ( like DMP in Veritas). Can someone point to correct doc and setup. Thanks in Advance. Rgds Vikash Gupta This message posted from opensolaris.org

Again ZFS with expanding LUNs!
Hello, I know, that you had this discussion a view days ago but I''m in the installation phase of our new production servers and I intend to migrate the data from UFS volumes to ZFS volumes in near future. For doing this it must be ABSOLUTELY sure that I can resize the SAN LUNs because during the last 4 years I had to double the LUN size every year. I tried to resize a test volume

ZFS Storage Pool advice
This question is concerning ZFS. We have a Sun Fire V890 attached to a EMC disk array. Here''s are plan to incorporate ZFS: On our EMC storage array we will create 3 LUNS. Now how would ZFS be used for the best performance? What I''m trying to ask is if you have 3 LUNS and you want to create a ZFS storage pool, would it be better to have a storage pool per LUN or combine the 3

zfs in san
I am planning to use zfs with fiber attached san disk from a emc symmetrix''s Based on a note in the admin guide it appears that even though the symmetrixs will handle the hardware raid it is still advisable to create a zfs mirror on the host side to take full advantage of zfs''s self healing/error checking and correcting. is this true ? Additionally I am wondering how the zfs
