PSARC 2009/571: ZFS deduplication properties
I haven''t seen any mention of it in this forum yet, so FWIW you might be interested in the details of ZFS deduplication mentioned in this recently-filed case.
Case log: http://arc.opensolaris.org/caselog/PSARC/2009/571/
Discussion: http://www.opensolaris.org/jive/thread.jspa?threadID=115507
Very nice -- I like the interaction with "copies", and (like a few others) I think

zpool autoexpand property - HowTo question
I noted this PSARC thread with interest:
Re: zpool autoexpand property [PSARC/2008/353 Self Review]
because it so happens that during a recent disk upgrade,
on a laptop. I''ve migrated a zpool off of one partition
onto a slightly larger one, and I''d like to somehow tell
zfs to grow the zpool to fill the new partition. So,
what''s the best way to do this? (and is it

About ZFS compatibility
I have created a pool on external storage with B114. Then I export this pool
and import it on another system with B110.But this import will fail and show
error: cannot import ''tpool'': pool is formatted using a newer ZFS version.
Any big change in ZFS with B114 leads to this compatibility issue?
Thanks

Newbie question: ZFS on Xserve RAID with Solaris 10
--Apologies if you get two copies of this message - it was submitted
for moderation and hasn''t appeared on the list in two days, so I''m
resubmitting.
Hi all,
Just a quick question. Is it possible to utilise an Apple Xserve RAID
as an array for use with ZFS with RAID-Z in Solaris?
I''ve seen various mentions of ''zfs'' and ''xserve

? Removing a disk from a ZFS Storage Pool
Hi
my understanding is that you cannot remove a disk from a ZFS storage
pool once you have added it...but I also think I saw an email from Jeff
B saying that the ability to depopulate a disk so that it can be
removed is being worked on....or was I dreaming ?
What is the status of this ?
Thanks

part of active zfs pool error message reports incorrect decive
I am seeing this issue posted a lot in the forums:
A zpool add/replace command is run, for example:
zpool add archive spare c2t0d2
invalid vdev specification
use ''-f'' to override the following errors:
/dev/dsk/c2t1d7s0 is part of active ZFS pool archive. Please see zpool(1M).
(-f just says: the following errors must be manually repaired:)

ZFS raidz1 replacing failing disk
I''m having a serious problem with a customer running a T2000 with ZFS configured as raidz1 with 4 disks, no spare.
The machine is mostly a cyrus imap server and web application server to run the ajax app to email.
Yesterday we had a heavy slow down.
Tomcat runs smoothly, but the imap access is very slow, also through a direct imap client runnining on LAN PCs.
We figured out that the 4th

zfs + iscsi target + vmware esx server
I''m posting here as this seems to be a zfs issue. We also have an open ticket with Sun support and I''ve heard another large sun customer also is reporting this as an issue.
Basic Problem: Create a zfs file system and set shareiscsi to on. On a vmware esx server discover that iscsi target. It shows up as 249 luns. When attempting to then add the storage esx server eventually

storage type for ZFS
The paragraph below is from ZFS admin guide
Traditional Volume Management
As described in ?ZFS Pooled Storage? on page 18, ZFS eliminates the need for a separate volume
manager. ZFS operates on raw devices, so it is possible to create a storage pool comprised of logical
volumes, either software or hardware. This configuration is not recommended, as ZFS works best
when it uses raw physical

Restore a ZFS Root Mirror
Hi all,
after installing OpenSolaris 2008.05 in VirtualBox I''ve created a ZFS Root Mirror by:
"zfs attach rpool Disk B"
and it works like a charm. Now I tried to restore the rpool from the worst Case
Scenario: The Disk the System was installed to (Disk A) fails.
I replaced the Disk A with another virtual Disk C and tried to restore the rpool, but
my Problem is that I

ZFS space map causing slow performance
Hello,
I have several ~12TB storage servers using Solaris with ZFS. Two of them have recently developed performance issues where the majority of time in an spa_sync() will be spent in the space_map_*() functions. During this time, "zpool iostat" will show 0 writes to disk, while it does hundreds or thousands of small (~3KB) reads each second, presumably reading space map data from

Help replacing dual identity disk in ZFS raidz and SVM mirror
Hi,
We have a number of 4200''s setup using a combination of an SVM 4 way mirror and a ZFS raidz stripe.
Each disk (of 4) is divided up like this
/ 6GB UFS s0
Swap 8GB s1
/var 6GB UFS s3
Metadb 50MB UFS s4
/data 48GB ZFS s5
For SVM we do a 4 way mirror on /,swap, and /var
So we have 3 SVM mirrors
d0=root (sub mirrors d10, d20, d30, d40)
d1=swap (sub mirrors d11, d21,d31,d41)
