zfs: zvols minor #''s changing and causing probs w/ volumes
Team, **Please respond to me and my coworker listed in the Cc, since neither one of us are on this alias** QUICK PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Cu created a dataset which contains all the zvols for a particular zone. The zone is then given access to all the zvols in the dataset using a match statement in the zoneconfig (see long problem description for details). After the initial boot of the zone

[PATCH] btrfs: fix cannot use the loop device
we cannot use the loop device which has been connected to a file in the btrf The reproduce steps is following: # dd if=/dev/zero of=vdev0 bs=1M count=1024 # losetup /dev/loop0 vdev0 # mkfs.btrfs /dev/loop0 ... failed to zero device start -5 The reason is that the btrfs don''t implement either ->write_begin or ->write the VFS API, so we fix it by setting ->write to

Adding devices to a zone on SXU4 + 127111-03 && 127728-02
Hi *, Missed it by that '''' much... or something to brighten everyone''s Friday. This is just a heads up since I suspect others will run into it. bob Consider the possibilities of a device named star. I added devices from the global zone to the bug zone in the usual way and rebooted the zone: <device match="/dev/zvol/rdsk/bug/devices/*"/> And I got

ZFS raidz1 replacing failing disk
I''m having a serious problem with a customer running a T2000 with ZFS configured as raidz1 with 4 disks, no spare. The machine is mostly a cyrus imap server and web application server to run the ajax app to email. Yesterday we had a heavy slow down. Tomcat runs smoothly, but the imap access is very slow, also through a direct imap client runnining on LAN PCs. We figured out that the 4th

Performance Tuning - ZFS, Oracle and T2000
Hi All, We are currently in the process of testing Solaris 10 with ZFS and Oracle and are running it on a T2000. When checking performance statistics on the T2000, we notice that only one thread of the CPU appears to be doing any of the processing. Leaving all other threads seemingly idle. Are there any tuning parameters that need to be set or changed when running Oracle on T2000 using

Root Mirror - Permission Denied
I have a system that I''m trying to bring up with a mirrored rpool. I''m using DarkStar''s ZFS Root Mirror blog post as a guide (http://darkstar-solaris.blogspot.com/2008/09/zfs-root-mirror.html). When I get to step 3 I execute: pfexec prtvtoc /dev/rdsk/c7d0s2 | fmthard -s - /dev/rdsk/c7d1s2 I get: fmthard: Cannot open device /dev/rdsk/c7d1s2 - Permission denied Any

add device to mirror rpool in sol11exp
In my new oracle server, sol11exp, it''s using multipath device names... Presently I have two disks attached: (I removed the other 10 disks for now, because these device names are so confusing. This way I can focus on *just* the OS disks.) 0. c0t5000C5003424396Bd0 <SEAGATE-ST32000SSSUN2.0-0514 cyl 3260 alt 2 hd 255 sec 252> /scsi_vhci/disk at g5000c5003424396b

zfs corruption...
Hi all, It would appear that I have a zpool corruption issue to deal with... pool is exported, but upon trying to import it, server panics.  Are there any tools available on a zpool that is in an exported state?  I''ve got a separate test bed in which I''m trying to recreate, but I keep getting messages to the effect of need to import the pool first.  Suggestions? thanks Jay

Problems installing grub
Hi all One of the rpool drives on this server died the other day, so I got a replacement that was 1 cylinder larger (60798 vs 60797). Still, I tried prtvtoc /dev/rdsk/c7d0s2 | fmthard -s - /dev/rdsk/c6d0s2 zpool replace worked and the pool resilvered within a few minutes. Now, installing grub fails. root at prv-backup:~# installgrub /boot/grub/stage1 /boot/grub/stage2 /dev/rdsk/c6d0s0

bug :zpool create allow member driver as the raw drive of full partition
IF you run solaris and opensolaris ?for example you my use c0t0d0 (for scsi disk) or c0d0 (for ide /SATA disk ) as the system disk. In default ,solaris x86 and opensolaris will use RAW driver : c0t0d0s0 (/dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s0) as the member driver of rpool. Infact, solaris2 partition can be more then one in each Hard Disk, so we also can use the RAW driver like : c0t0d0p1 (/dev/rdsk/c0t0d0p1)

Problem w/ b95 + ZFS (version 11) - seeing fair number of errors on multiple machines
Hi, After upgrading to b95 of OSOL/Indiana, and doing a ZFS upgrade to the newer revision, all arrays I have using ZFS mirroring are displaying errors. This started happening immediately after ZFS upgrades. Here is an example: ormandj at neutron.corenode.com:~$ zpool status pool: rpool state: DEGRADED status: One or more devices has experienced an unrecoverable error. An attempt was

zpool on raw disk. Do I need to format?
Folks, I am learning more about zfs storage. It appears, zfs pool can be created on a raw disk. There is no need to create any partitions, etc. on the disk. Does this mean there is no need to run "format" on a raw disk? I have added a new disk to my system. It shows up as /dev/rdsk/c8t1d0s0. Do I need to format it before I convert it to zfs storage? Or, can I simply use it as: # zfs
