Best practices for zpools on zfs
Suppose I have a storage server that runs ZFS, presumably providing
file (NFS) and/or block (iSCSI, FC) services to other machines that
are running Solaris. Some of the use will be for LDoms and zones[1],
which would create zpools on top of zfs (fs or zvol). I have concerns
about variable block sizes and the implications for performance.

iostat and monitoring
Hi gurus,
I like zpool iostat and I like system monitoring, so I setup a script
within sma to let me get the zpool iostat figures through snmp.
The problem is that as zpool iostat is only run once for each snmp
query, it always reports a static set of figures, like so:
root at exodus:snmp # zpool iostat -v
capacity operations bandwidth
pool used avail read

Round four: Re: code review req: 6750659 drti.o crashes app due to corrupt environment
I believe that I have incorporated all of the feedback given
(thanks!). Changes since the 2008-11-16 version include:
- ksh style & coding standards compliance in test script (Roland)
- "dof_init_debug == B_FALSE" vs. "!dof_init_debug" (Adam)

posix me harder
People might find this entertaining and/or useful:
http://www.gnu.org/manual/autoconf-2.52/html_chapter/autoconf_10.html
With the help of Jos Backus I just discovered the answer to

is that Sun's test(1) is breathtakingly broken when passed a dangling

Looking for help on 2 items...
I am pretty new to Dtrace but use the Dtrace Toolkit when trying to
troubleshoot I/O issues
On Oracle.
I am looking for help on how to do the following:
I am trying to answer whether adding more HBA Cards/ports
would be effective.
To do this, I need to know the i/o''s per second
As well as total bandwidth per second.
Has anyone done this before?
Does anyone have any other ideas on how

space allocation vs. thin provisioning
Short question:
I''m curious as to how ZFS manages space (free and used) and how
its usage interacts with thin provisioning provided by HDS
arrays. Is there any effort to minimize the number of provisioned
disk blocks that get writes so as to not negate any space
benefits that thin provisioning may give?
Background & more detailed questions:
In Jeff Bonwick''s blog[1], he

ZFS and Live Upgrade
Is there any update/work-around/patch/etc as of the S10u4 WOS for the bugs that existed with respect to LU, Zones, and ZFS? More specifically, the following:
6359924 live upgrade needs to include support for zfs
I can''t even find that bug ID on bugs.opensolaris.org (or via sunsolve when I''m logged in for that matter) anymore. Basically, one couldn''t put zoneroot on

Any fix for zpool import kernel panic (reboot loop)?
My system (a laptop with ZFS root and boot, SNV 64A) on which I was trying Opensolaris now has the zpool-related kernel panic reboot loop.
Booting into failsafe mode or another solaris installation and attempting:
''zpool import -F rootpool'' results in a kernel panic and reboot.
A search shows this type of kernel panic has been discussed on this forum over the last year.

Archiving and Restoring Snapshots
I just received a special offer from Sun (marketing...) promising that
I will learn "How to use ZFS snapshots for backup and restore
purposes." The relevant doc is at...
https://www.sun.com/offers/docs/zfs_snapshots.pdf
It says:

Another use of snapshots is to create archives for long-term storage elsewhere.

status of zfs boot netinstall kit
I wanted to send out status on the effort to make a
version of Solaris install available that supports zfs
as a root file system. I''ve got a version of it ready
for distribution, but I''d like to test it on the Build 62
community release before I make it available.
Without the build 62 community release, I have to
test it on a build 61 image, updated with some build 62
packages.

Can''t access my data
Hi Folks..
I have/had a zpool containing one filesystem.
I had to change my hostid and needed to import my pool, (I''ve done his
OK in the past).
After the import the mount of my filesystem failed.
# zpool import homespool
cannot mount ''homespool/homes'': mountpoint or dataset is busy
The data seems it might still exist, (correct amount of used space is
reported),

Feature Request for zfs pool/filesystem protection?
Hi!
My name is Markus and I living in germany. I''m new to this list and I
have a simple question
related to zfs. My favorite operating system is FreeBSD and I''m very
happy to use zfs on them.
It''s possible to enhance the properties in the current source tree with
an entry like "protected"?
I find it seems not to be difficult but I''m not an
