ZFS and powerpath
How much fun can you have with a simple thing like powerpath? Here''s the story: I have a (remote) system with access to a couple of EMC LUNs. Originally, I set it up with mpxio and created a simple zpool containing the two LUNs. It''s now been reconfigured to use powerpath instead of mpxio. My problem is that I can''t import the pool. I get: pool: ###### id:

partition offset/alignment on SAN devices.
Hey folks, I've been getting requests from the users that they want the OCFS2 filesystems aligned to 64k boundaries, however, when I began the project, the dummy of me, created the OCFS2 filesystem on top of the whole disk device (no partition) for example, one of the SAN devices would show up as /dev/dm-10, I created the filesystem using the following command: mkfs.ocfs2 -L SOMELABEL

problem with OCFS label
I used this command to create volume label on OCFS: mkfs.ocfs -F -b 128 -L data13 -m /oradata/data13 -u oracle -g dba -p 0775 /dev/emcpowerp1 emcpowerp is composed of /dev/sdad and /dev/sdk. It seems the above command created the same labels for /dev/emcpowerp1, /dev/sdad1 and /dev/sdk1. But when I tried to mount this ocfs filesystem by label, it gave me the following error. # mount -L data13

Can ZFS simply concatenate LUNs (eg no RAID0)?
Hi, I do have a disk array that is providing striped LUNs to my Solaris box. Hence I''d like to simply concat those LUNs without adding another layer of striping. Is this possibile with ZFS? As far as I understood, if I use zpool create myPool lun-1 lun-2 ... lun-n I will get a RAID0 striping where each data block is split across all "n" LUNs. If that''s

[PATCH 0/1] virtio-scsi: fix missing unplug events when all LUNs are unplugged at the same time
virtio-scsi currently has limit of 8 outstanding notifications so when more that 8 LUNs are unplugged, some are missed. Commit 5ff843721467 ("scsi: virtio_scsi: unplug LUNs when events missed") Fixed this by checking the 'event overflow' bit and manually scanned the bus to see which LUNs are still there. However there is a corner case when all LUNs are unplugged. In this case

Limited write bandwidth from ext3
We are running a benchmark that does single threaded 512 KB writes to a LUN on a CLARiiON storage array. The dual Xeon host (Dell 2650) with 4 GB of memory runs RHEL 4U3 We measured the write bandwidth for writes to the block device corresponding to the lun (e.g. /dev/sdb), a file in an ext2 filesystem and to a file in an ext3 file system. Write b/w for 512 KB writes Block device 312 MBps Ext2

Mounting LUNs from a SAN array - LUN mappings to devices in /dev/ - are they static?
Hi All :) I am currently involved in a project in which there is a SAN array (Sun Storagetek 2540) which exports LUNs for some servers with Centos 5.2 x86. I will be performing a migration to Centos 5.9 x86_64 in some time and am gathering needed info now :) I am trying to find the place in the OS where there is the information about LUN mappings to /dev/ devices. For example on array level I

Automatically detecting LUNs without a reboot
Hi everybody. I have an HP StorageWorks array connected to one of my servers, connected via an LSI controller (lspci reports: SCSI storage controller: LSI Logic / Symbios Logic SAS1068E PCI-Express Fusion-MPT SAS (rev 08)) on an HP DL385 running CentOS 5.5 x86_64. I have set up multipath and all is working but, when I create a snaphost and export it as a new LUN from the HP web interface, it

pvscsi and report luns command
I''m updating the gplpv pvscsi driver to support the pvscsi driver in 3.3, and it''s not working properly. The first command windows issues is a ''report luns'' command, with a 16 byte buffer. The response that Dom0 gives me says that this was executed successfully. Windows then issues another ''report luns'' command that is also returned from Dom0

Scrubbing a zpool built on LUNs
I''m building a system with two Apple RAIDs attached. I have hardware RAID5 configured so no RAIDZ or RAIDZ2, just a basic zpool pointing at the four LUNs representing the four RAID controllers. For on-going maintenance, will a zpool scrub be of any benefit? From what I''ve read with this layer of abstration ZFS is only maintaining the metadata and not the actual data on the

ZFS on CLARiiON SAN Hardware?
Does anyone on the list have definitive information on whether ZFS works with CLARiiON devices? bash-3.00# uname -a SunOS XXXXXXX 5.10 Generic_118833-33 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-V245 bash-3.00# powermt display dev=all Pseudo name=emcpower0a CLARiiON ID=APM00033500540 [XXXXXXX] Logical device ID=600601607C550E00F25F4629AFBEDB11 [LUN 61] state=alive; policy=BasicFailover; priority=0; queued-IOs=0

Qlogic Fibrechannel and detecting new LUNs on the fly
Hi there, I've installed a Qlogic HBA in a 4.8-STABLE machine and I'm able to present LUNs to this machine from an HDS array and use them. That all works perfectly. However, the only time I pick up new LUNs is on a reboot. Seems like I should be able to rescan the fabric and pick up new LUNs, but there doesn't seem to be a way to do this. I tried camcontrol rescan, but that

zfs dynamic lun expansion
Hi, I had 2 luns in a zfs mirrored config. I increased the size of both the luns by x gig and offlined/online the individual luns in the zpool, also tried an export/import of the zpool, but i am unable to see the increased size....what would i need to do to see the increased size?...or is it not possible yet? XFS on a 25 TB device
Hello all, I have just configured a 64-bit CentOS 5.5 machine to support an XFS filesystem as specified in the subject line. The filesystem will be used to store an extremely large number of files (in the tens of millions). Due to its extremely large size, would there be any non-standard XFS build/configuration options I should consider? Thanks. Boris. -------------- next part -------------- An

How to force iscsi to see the new LUN size
Hi, I increased the size of one of the LUNs and on CentOS 5.4 if I restart iscsi (`service iscsi restart`) I'll see the the new size but this will disconnect all other LUNs. I'm hoping that there is isciadm or some other command that will force iscsi to rediscover the LUNs but I can't seem to be able to come up with one. Resize2fs says that there is nothing to be done. I'm

Re: Difference between ZFS and UFS with one LUN froma SAN
This may not be the answer you''re looking for, but I don''t know if it''s something you''ve thought of. If you''re pulling a LUN from an expensive array, with multiple HBA''s in the system, why not run mpxio? If you ARE running mpxio, there shouldn''t be an issue with a path dropping. I have the setup above in my test lab and pull cables

Problems with OCFSTOOL after LUN Maintenance
In installing 10g\RAC we hit an issue that has been indentified as a bug with CRS where the cluster locking files cannot be implemented under OCFS. Supposedly they work fine when implemented as Raw Devices. We needed to reclaim some space from existing LUN's to create the raw devices as we had expected to able to put all Oracle related files under OCFS (Yes, we belived the hype). This

what's the advantage of NetworkManager for server?
Hi: I always use network-scripts to start network at EL7. NetworkManager is not as good as network scripts under that OS. but now EL8 said that network-scripts is depreciated. I wonder if I should still use network-scripts to start network? I am afraid there will be new bugs for the network-scripts, like systemd service unit dependency. although it is solid at EL7.
