Get error msg if try to use kernel makefile / build kernel
Using the new method for building a standalone kernel module
(although seems to happen with the traditional way as well)
I get "mach_mpspec.h: No such file or directory"
Same result if I try to do a kernel 'make'.
Subsequently I get MAX_MP_BUSSES and MAX_IRQ_SOURCES undeclared.
This should surely work 'out of the box' with Centos ?
Any ideas about what's missing ?

[PATCH] virtio_rng: dont use vmalloced addresses for virtio
If virtio_rng is build as a module, random_data is an address in vmalloc
space. As virtio expects guest real addresses, this can cause any kind of
funny behaviour, so lets allocate random_data dynamically with kmalloc.

[PATCH 1/1] hv: Use only one receive buffer per channel and kmalloc on initialize
Correct issue with not checking kmalloc return value.
This fix now only uses one receive buffer for all hv_utils
channels, and will do only one kmalloc on init and will return
with a -ENOMEM if kmalloc fails on initialize.
Thanks to Evgeniy Polyakov <zbr at ioremap.net> for pointing this out.

Guestfish errors (Running in VirtualBox)
Hi All,
I am trying to run guestfish inside an Ubuntu instance running in VirtualBox. I'm running into problems, and my first question, is this setup even possible?
I compiled and installed libguestfs-1.8.4.
Running libguestfs-test-tool fails with the following output.
Would appreciate any advice,
Chris

Bug#603391: Workaround PyGrub issue
Confirmed this issue. To reproduce: Install a fresh Wheezy AMD64 guest
under Xen 4.1 (hypervirtualized, boot from the
debian-7.1.0-amd64-CD-1.iso). Use "entire disk" automatic layout for
partitioning, this creates /dev/xvda1 for / and /dev/xvda5 for swap.
It will create /boot/grub/grub.cfg with many references to
(/dev/xvda,msdos1) which works fine when the machine is booted

OT - Differences between modprobe and insmod
hello,
Here (http://updates.xorcom.com/astribank/bristuff/1.4/INSTALL.html) you can
read :
cd qozap
modprobe zaptel
insmod qozap.o (for kernel 2.4)
insmod qozap.ko (for kernel 2.6)
ztcfg
I thought modprobe was a replacement for insmod.
Can someone be kind enough to explain :
1. the difference between modprobe and insmod,
2. why should both commands be issued,
3. how modprobe and insmod compare

include insmod in klibc?
Hello,
I feel that the klibc package should include an insmod that can be used
on an initramfs. While it is possible to use an insmod built statically
against glibc, such a binary is (comparatively) huge at 565K.
The attached insmod.c is essentially the insmod.c from module-init-tools
minus a couple of lines related to calling the old (2.4) version of
insmod for backward compat.
BTW: Insmod

explicitly):

Wim,
The patch description on Metalink says:
DIRECT IO SUPPORT ON EXT2 FILESYSTEM
Which wasn't quite what I was expecting.

XEN BUG i387.c159 at XEN4.01 on debian squeeze
Hi,
we´ve got a bad problem here. We installed a new server with debian squeeze sw-raid and lvm. We´ve installed the the actual xen-linux-system-2.6.32-5-xen-amd64? system with grub2 but get an XEN BUG. We´ve tried alot, tested grub-legacy version but cannot get the XEN kernel to boot up.
The XEN BUG occurs a second after grub boots the kernel and there are no outputs at the serial console with
