Rsync stops in the middle of a large transfer
Hello everyone. I am having trouble with rsync stopping in the middle of a
transfer. Everything works fine for smaller batches of file, but when I try
to rsync big groups, it just stops in the middle.
I have been using rsync to copy my home directory to an SD card. I recently
got a Drobo+Droboshare (NAS) and want to do the same thing to the Drobo, but
when I run rsync, it stops somewhere in

Drobo
Here''s another product which has removed the hassle out of disk
management:

I wonder if they (Data Robotics) will make the Drobo work with ZFS
once Leopard is out (since it supports HFS+)?

ZFS encryption?? - [Fwd: [osol-announce] SXCE Build 105 available
It was rumored that Nevada build 105 would have ZFS encrypted file
systems integrated into the main source.
In reviewing the Change logs (URL''s below) I did not see anything
mentioned that this had come to pass. Its going to be another week
before I have a chance to play with b105.
Does anyone know specifically if b105 has ZFS encryption?
Thanks,
Jerry

Get your SXCE on ZFS here!
With the release of the Nevada build 90 binaries, it is now possible to install SXCE directly onto a ZFS root filesystem, and also put ZFS swap onto a ZFS filesystem without worrying about having it deadlock. ZFS now also supports crash dumps!
To install SXCE to a ZFS root, simply use the text-based installer, after choosing "Solaris Express" from the boot menu on the DVD.

How to change 'fstab' when you cannot boot the machine?
Hello All,
So My Drobo finished formatting and I added an entry to fstab for it and
now I cannot boot the machine. I get an error about
fsck.ext3: is a directory while trying to open /drobo
and then a mention of a valid super block
I had mounted the Drobo as /drobo and in 'fstab' I copied the line for '/'
changing to ext3 where it was ext4.
I have made a mistake
I cannot fix

Zfs and b114 version
http://dlc.sun.com/osol/on/downloads/b114/
This URL makes me think that if I just sit down and figure out how to
compile OpenSolaris, I can try b114 now^h^h^h eventually ? I am really
eager to try out the new quota support.. has someone already tried
compiling it perhaps? How complicated is compiling osol compared to,
say, NetBSD/FreeBSD, Linux etc ? (IRIX and its quickstarting??)

Formatting a USB Drive
Hi All,
I have a Drobo, connected to a CentOS 6.4 box. The box sees it as /dev/sdg.
I want to format it ext3 (as they dont support ext4) but when I try I get:
# fdisk -u /dev/sdg
WARNING: GPT (GUID Partition Table) detected on '/dev/sdg'! The util fdisk
doesn't support GPT. Use GNU Parted.

zfs-discuss Digest, Vol 33, Issue 19
Hello Ross,
We''re trying to accomplish the same goal over here, ie. serving multiple
VMware images from a NFS server.
Could you tell what kind of NVRAM device did you end up choosing? We bought
a Micromemory PCI card but can''t get a Solaris driver for it...
Thanks

SMC Webconsole 3.1 and ZFS Administration 1.0 - stacktraces in snv_b89
I''ve installed SXDE (snv_89) and found that the web console only listens on https://localhost:6789/ now, and the module for ZFS admin doesn''t work.
When I open the link, the left frame lists a stacktrace (below) and the right frame is plain empty. Any suggestions?
I tried substituting different SUNWzfsgr and SUNWzfsgu packages from older Solarises (x86/sparc, snv_77/84/89,

Problem installing RCS on SXCE
I was shocked to find no RCS on SXCE 107. I needed it to update some
RCS archives I had copied over.
No problem - go to sunfreeware and copy it over. No OpenSolaris branch?
The Solaris 10 package should work.
Only the package install appears to complete and does not - as
documented only in a log file, not on my screen.
OK then, the source for RCS should be easily compiled and installed, I

Crossbow virtual router and firewall
I want to run a non-global zone as a virtual router and run ipnat inside the non-global zone, however, when I try to enable routing it can''t find route:default or network/ipfilter. I''m using exclusive IP inside the zones and using OpenSolaris 2008.11 build 110.
I''ve tried sparse root and whole root zones without success. I''ve read blogs and posts and

Repeating scrub does random fixes
I''ve been using a 5-disk raidZ for years on SXCE machine which I converted to OSOL. The only time I ever had zfs problems in SXCE was with snv_120, which was fixed.
So, now I''m at OSOL snv_111b and I''m finding that scrub repairs errors on random disks. If I repeat the scrub, it will fix errors on other disks. Occasionally it runs cleanly. That it doesn''t

Bug in "zpool history"
Hi,
I was playing around with NexentaCP and its zfs boot facility. I tried
to figure out how what commands to run and I ran zpool history like
this
# zpool history
2007-06-20.10:19:46 zfs snapshot syspool/rootfs at mysnapshot
2007-06-20.10:20:03 zfs clone syspool/rootfs at mysnapshot syspool/myrootfs
2007-06-20.10:23:21 zfs set bootfs=syspool/myrootfs syspool

ZFS Newbie question
I?ve spend a few hours reading through the forums and wiki and honestly my head is spinning. I have been trying to study up on either buying or building a box that would allow me to add drives of varying sizes/speeds/brands (adding more later etc) and still be able to use the full space of drives (minus parity? [not sure if I got the terminology right]) with redundancy. I have found the ?all in
