ZFS Hardware Check, OS X Compatibility, NEWBIE!!
This is my first post here, and i hope it is ok that i posted in this thread.
I have been doing a bit of reading on the solaris platforms, and seem to be inclined to try out the open solaris os or solaris 10. My only worry is that my lack of knowledge with the command line may make this difficult regarding trouble shooting. It seems fairly straighforward creating zpools etc, but maybe nexenta is

Xen vs. iSCSI
[previously sent to rhelv5 list, apologies to those on both]
I've got a problem I can reproduce easily enough, but really I fail to
understand what's going wrong.
I've got a 5.3 Dom0, which is running three guests. One is Fedora 10,
that runs with local flat files, and works fine. One is Nexenta 2
(opensolaris-based), and that runs off of physical partitions, and seems
to work

kvm guest from zfs dataset
Hi all,
I thought I?d post this in case any one has issues similar to mine.
First, my initial email to the list which I didn?t send;
I?m trying to run a KVM based guest OS off of a mirrored ZFS dataset.
It won?t run with errors "invalid argument..", but will run when on the root volume, or when that ZFS dataset has been removed in favor of an EXT4 volumes.
Thanks in advance,

AppleMail 1.3 filter problem [solved] / fc5 package of 1.0rc7
Hi, Folks,
I recently migrated from courier-imapd to dovecot when I migrated a
machine from rh9 to fc5.
I managed to hit a snag with the 1.0b8 version of dovecot that's
currently in fc5. With AppleMail 1.3 I was seeing most of my incoming
mail go missing. To make a long story short, AppleMail was applying
mail filters inappropriately (walking right past a 'stop processing'

Mac .DS_Stores
Hi all. We have a file server using samba with a lot of Mac clients.
Mac uses files called .DS_Store to store information about the layout
of the files in the directory. We have a hierarchal storage system,
and don't want to back up the thousands, if not hundreds of thousands
of .DS_store files. Currently we have a policy in place that these
files don't get backed up, but they

Performance with Sun StorageTek 2540
Under Solaris 10 on a 4 core Sun Ultra 40 with 20GB RAM, I am setting
up a Sun StorageTek 2540 with 12 300GB 15K RPM SAS drives and
connected via load-shared 4Gbit FC links. This week I have tried many
different configurations, using firmware managed RAID, ZFS managed
RAID, and with the controller cache enabled or disabled.
My objective is to obtain the best single-file write performance.

ZFS send | verify | receive
If there were a ?zfs send? datastream saved someplace, is there a way to
verify the integrity of that datastream without doing a ?zfs receive? and
occupying all that disk space?
I am aware that ?zfs send? is not a backup solution, due to vulnerability of
even a single bit error, and lack of granularity, and other reasons.
However ... There is an attraction to ?zfs send? as an augmentation to the

VirtIO with CentOS 5.4
Hi, all,
I'm attempting to run a Windows 2003 (32-bit) VM under CentOS 5.4,
generally following:
http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/KVM
I've seen nice performance benefits with the VirtIO driver under Fedora,
so I'd like to get that running with CentOS as well. I have the
September drivers build .iso.
According to:
http://www.linux-kvm.org/page/Virtio
I need a KVM version 60

Secure delete?
Hi all
Is it possible to securely delete a file from a zfs dataset/zpool once it''s been snapshotted, meaning "delete (and perhaps overwrite) all copies of this file"?
Best regards

NFS export issue
Hello,
I have a ZFS filesystem structure, which is basically like this:
/foo
/foo/bar
/foo/baz
all are from one pool and /foo does only contain the other
directories/mounts (no other files)
When I try to export /foo via dfstab, I can see the directories bar and baz,
but these are empty.
Can I only export via NFS each subdir on its own ?
thanks in advance.

Zpool scrub in cron hangs u3/u4 server, stumps tech support.
I''ve got a server that freezes when I run a zpool scrub from cron.
Zpool scrub runs fine from the command line, no errors.
The freeze happens within 30 seconds of the zpool scrub happening.
The one core dump I succeeded in taking showed an arccache eating up
all the ram.
The server''s running Solaris 10 u3, kernel patch 127727-11 but it''s
been patched and seems to have

Live Upgrade Solaris 10 UFS to ZFS boot pre-requisites?
I have a Solaris 10 U5 system massively patched so that it supports
ZFS pool version 15 (similar to U8, kernel Generic_141445-09), live
upgrade components have been updated to Solaris 10 U8 versions from
the DVD, and GRUB has been updated to support redundant menus across
the UFS boot environments.
I have studied the Solaris 10 Live Upgrade manual (821-0438) and am
unable to find any
