sam-fs on zfs-pool
Hi list, I''ve did some tests and run into a very strange situation.. I created a zvol using "zfs create -V" and initialize an sam-filesystem on this zvol. After that I restored some testdata using a dump from another system. So far so good. After some big troubles I found out that releasing files in the sam-filesystem doesn''t create space on the underlying zvol.

drbd using zfs send/receive?
hi everyone, I am planning on creating a local SAN via NFS(v4) and several redundant nodes. I have been using DRBD on linux before and now am asking whether some of you have experience on on-demand network filesystem mirrors. I have yet little Solaris sysadmin know how, but i am interesting whether there is an on-demand support for sending snapshots. I.e. not via a cron job, but via a

zfs receive - list contents of incremental stream?
Apologies up front for failing to find related posts... Am I overlooking a way to get ''zfs send -i fs at 0 fs at 1 | zfs receive -n -v ...'' to show the contents of the stream? I''m looking for the equivalent of ufsdump 1f - fs ... | ufsrestore tv - . I''m hoping that this might be a faster way than using ''find fs -newer ...'' to learn

incremental backup with zfs to file
FULL backup to a file zfs snapshot -r rpool at 0908 zfs send -Rv rpool at 0908 > /net/remote/rpool/snaps/rpool.0908 INCREMENTAL backup to a file zfs snapshot -i rpool at 0908 rpool at 090822 zfs send -Rv rpool at 090822 > /net/remote/rpool/snaps/rpool.090822 As I understand the latter gives a file with changes between 0908 and 090822. Is this correct? How do I restore those files? I know

ZFS automatic snapshots SMF service updated
Hi All, I just posted version 0.6 of the automatic snapshots prototype on my web log. The new features are: * ZFS send/receive support * Multiple schedules per filesystem More at: http://blogs.sun.com/timf/entry/zfs_automatic_snapshots_now_with Note, this is just something I''ve been messing about with in my free time - it''s not an official ZFS project and may not be

x4500 resilvering spare taking forever?
I''ve got a Thumper running snv_57 and a large ZFS pool. I recently noticed a drive throwing some read errors, so I did the right thing and zfs replaced it with a spare. Everything went well, but the resilvering process seems to be taking an eternity: # zpool status pool: bigpool state: ONLINE status: One or more devices has experienced an unrecoverable error. An attempt was

snapshot incremental diff file list?
Hello all, I am interested in getting a list of the changed files between two snapshots in a fast and zfs-y way. I know that zfs knows all about what blocks have been changed, but can one map that to a file list? I know this could be solved with some rsync or star or (some other app) love, but those would involve whole tree crawls(kind of slow on a multi Tb filesystem). Possible? Asa

ZFS send / recv to a lower ZFS version
Hi, We are using multiple opensolaris 06/09 and solaris 10 servers. Currently we are ''dumping'' (incremental)backups to a backup server. I wonder if anybody knows what happens when I send/recv a zfs volume from version 15 to a (backup) system with version 14. I''ve the feeling it''s not very wise to do, but is it doable and what kind of caveats can be

Kernel panic receiving incremental snapshots
Before I open a new case with Sun, I am wondering if anyone has seen this kernel panic before? It happened on an X4500 running Sol10U3 while it was receiving incremental snapshot updates. Thanks. Failure to zfs destroy - after interrupting zfs receive
Formerly, if you interrupted a zfs receive, it would leave a clone with a % in its name, and you could find it via "zdb -d" and then you could destroy the clone, and then you could destroy the filesystem you had interrupted receiving. That was considered a bug, and it was fixed, I think by Sun. If the lingering clone was discovered laying around, zfs would automatically destroy it.

ZFS: creating a pool in a created zfs does not work, only when using the whole zfs-pool.
Hi, I’m new here so apologies if this has been answered before. I have a box that uses ZFS for everything (ubuntu 17.04) and I want to create a libvirt pool on that. My ZFS pool is named „big" So i do: > zfs create big/zpool > virsh pool-define-as --name zpool --source-name big/zpool --type zfs > virsh pool-start zpool > virsh pool-autostart zpool > virsh pool-list >

ZFS on ZFS based storage?
I''m trying to guess what is the best practice in this scenario: - let''s say I have a zfs based storage (let''s say nexenta) that has it zfs pools and volumes shared as iScsi raw devices - let''s say I have another server running xvm or virtualbox connected to the storage - let''s say one of the virtual guests is OpenSolaris My question is: - is it correct
