Looking for some hardware answers, maybe someone on this list could help
I posted a thread here... http://forums.opensolaris.com/thread.jspa?threadID=596 I am trying to finish building a system and I kind of need to pick working NIC and onboard SATA chipsets (video is not a big deal - I can get a silent PCIe card for that, I already know one which works great) I need 8 onboard SATA. I would prefer Intel CPU. At least one gigabit port. That''s about it. I

Cheap ZFS homeserver.
So after toying around with some stuff a few months back I got bogged down and set this project aside for a while. Time to revisit.

Looking around there still is not a good "these cards/motherboards" work list. the HCL is hardly ever updated, and its far more geared towards business use than hobbyist/home use. So bearing all of that in mind I will need the

The best motherboard for a home ZFS fileserver
I''m a fan of ZFS since I''ve read about it last year. Now I''m on the way to build a home fileserver and I''m thinking to go with Opensolaris and eventually ZFS!! Apart from the other components, the main problem is to choose the motherboard. The offer is incredibly high and I''m lost. Minimum requisites should be: - working well with Open Solaris ;-) -

Hardware requirements
I don't seem to be able to find the necessary hardware specs for an Asterisk server. What I have in mind is a dedicated server to serve 50 or so people. All users will use SIP phones and there will be an ISDN gateway for outgoing/incoming calls. Do you have any suggestions about the server specs (CPU, RAM, HD, etc)? Also, has anyone used Epigi Quadro ISDN gateway with Asterisk? If so, what is

OT: (a) Biostar or MSI mainboard? (b) all Celeron CPU's OK?
(a) Mark (mhr) suggested I buy a bare bones box, when I reported the problem with the mainboard in this Dell Dimension 2400 box. Possibly I can have the mainboard repaired (and the PSU, if it is also having problems), and if so, I will give this one to my Stepson and go the bare bones box route and have a more powerful box for myself. I looked at two (2) very low end Desktop mainboards in the

Seagate ST32000542AS and ZFS perf
Hi, Does anyone use Seagate ST32000542AS disks with ZFS? I wonder if the performance is not that ugly as with WD Green WD20EARS disks. Thanks, -- Piotr Jasiukajtis | estibi | SCA OS0072 http://estseg.blogspot.com

OT: Would you purchase this hardware?
I have about $1200 to spend on 2 boxes and I'd like them to be identical. Very basic web serving, simple HTML5 video, light email serving. Looking around NewEgg, I come across: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA65C1ZT3064 These use ECC unbuffered RAM which is expensive but I did find 8gb sticks for under $70 each:

USB Audio sound card
All- Ah, the saga of the 1U workstation continues. So, in all my work configuring the thing, I completely forgot about AUDIO; I only realized my mistake when I went on a cable-measuring expedition this morning. Unfortunately, none of the 1U servers I've been looking at come with audio outputs (there aren't even audio headers on the motherboard), and I've used the only availabnle slot

Best 1.5TB drives for consumer RAID?
Which consumer-priced 1.5TB drives do people currently recommend? I had zero read/write/checksum errors so far in 2 years with my trusty old Western Digital WD7500AAKS drives, but now I want to upgrade to a new set of drives that are big, reliable and cheap. As of Jan 2010 it seems the price sweet spot is the 1.5TB drives. As I had a lot of success with Western Digital drives I thought I would

DDR2 compile times (was Re: segfaults with 8 gig of ram)
Hello All. Below are some compile times for 2.6.20 on an fx-62 running Centos64 with various 2 gig sticks of dual channel ram (See previous posts with subject of 'segfaults with 8gig of ram' for more details.) It seems dual channel will compile a kernel faster, but only gained around 30 seconds over 20 minutes. Below are the shortest/longest compile times of several compiles done over the

USB blues
I have a freshly built, updated EL6 system and am having problems with USB stability - at boot everything works fine but within a few hours, USB devices start disappearing randomly. At first I though the USB devices were suspect, but removing the suspect devices and an accessory PCIE USB card hasn't changed anything. As of now, a single USB device is working. (which is lucky, it hosts the

confusion and frustration with zpool
I have a zpool which has grown "organically". I had a 60Gb disk, I added a 120, I added a 500, I got a 750 and sliced it and mirrored the other pieces. The 60 and the 120 are internal PATA drives, the 500 and 750 are Maxtor OneTouch USB drives. The original system I created the 60+120+500 pool on was Solaris 10 update 3, patched to use ZFS sometime last fall (November I believe). In

Upgrading Server Motherboard
I have a server running CentOS 4.2 that works as a web/email with very heavy load. It runs Directadmin web gui which is like Cpanel. It runs on a cheapy mATX motherboard(ECS 741GX-M) with socket A 2800+ CPU and 2Gbyte DDR. The OS and data are on a 300Gbyte PATA maxtor drive and data backups are run weekly to another PATA drive. The server is overwelmed and data backups take over 5 hours to

any 64-bit mini-itx successes
Is there anyone who has successfully put together a "high-powered" mini-itx ZFS box that would be willing to post their system specs?
