Force file read even with checksum error
Hi guys,
I have a pool made with three luns striped.
After some scsi retryable messages, happened during a storage activity, zpool status start to report one checksum error on one file only.
The zpool scrub find it but don''t solve it, and when I try to read the file, I get an I/O error.
Again, when I try to copy the file, I get only some bytes copied, and then stops, I mean this is

Porting ZFS to OSX
Here''s some exciting news!
Chris Emura, the Filesystem Development Manager within Apple''s CoreOS organization is interested in porting ZFS to OS X. For more information, please e-mail him directly at cemura at apple.com.
Speaking for the zfs team (at Sun), this is great news and we fully support the effort.

Linux and Printing via smbprint
Hi there
Looking at the archives I didn't find a solution to the following problem
we have here:
Printing from our linux-server (wagner) to an intel printserver (PS652D8F)
doesn't work.
Here's the stuff we know/tried:
wagner:~ # smbclient -L //PS652D8F -N
added interface ip=10.0.0.10 bcast=10.0.0.255 nmask=255.255.255.0
Got a positive name query response from 10.0.0.40 ( 10.0.0.40

Fileserver performance tests
Hi all,
i want to replace a bunch of Apple Xserves with Xraids and HFS+ (brr) by Sun x4200 with SAS-Jbods and ZFS. The application will be the Helios UB+ fileserver suite.
I installed the latest Solaris 10 on a x4200 with 8gig of ram and two Sun SAS controllers, attached two sas-jbods with 8 SATA-HDDs each und created a zfs pool as a raid 10 by doing something like the following:
[i]zpool create

zfs and backup applications
Hi,
I was wondering if there have been any conversations with backup vendors like Veritas or EMC regarding better integration with ZFS. While I understand they can use the "native" mode of reading files from the filesystem, it would be great if there were agents that had options like making a snapshot and storing a "zfs backup" datastream that could be used for zfs restore.

ZFS Performance as a function of Disk Slice
First Post!
Sorry, I had to get that out of the way to break the ice...
I was wondering if it makes sense to zone ZFS pools by disk slice, and if it makes a difference with RAIDZ. As I''m sure we''re all aware, the end of a drive is half as fast as the beginning ([i]where the zoning stipulates that the physical outside is the beginning and going towards the spindle increases hex

Replacing HDD in x4500
The vendor wanted to come in and replace an HDD in the 2nd X4500, as it
was "constantly busy", and since our x4500 has always died miserably in
the past when a HDD dies, they wanted to replace it before the HDD
actually died.
The usual was done, HDD replaced, resilvering started and ran for about
50 minutes. Then the system hung, same as always, all ZFS related
commands would just

''zfs recv'' is very slow
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
hi,
i have two systems, A (Solaris 10 update 5) and B (Solaris 10 update 6). i''m
using ''zfs send -i'' to replicate changes on A to B. however, the ''zfs recv'' on
B is running extremely slowly. if i run the zfs send on A and redirect output
to a file, it sends at 2MB/sec. but when i use ''zfs send

enterprise scale redundant Solaris 10/ZFS server providing NFSv4/CIFS
We are looking for a replacement enterprise file system to handle storage
needs for our campus. For the past 10 years, we have been happily using DFS
(the distributed file system component of DCE), but unfortunately IBM
killed off that product and we have been running without support for over a
year now. We have looked at a variety of possible options, none of which
have proven fruitful. We are

Preferred backup s/w
Hi all,
What is the current preferred method for backing up ZFS data pools,
preferably using free ($0.00) software, and assuming that access to
individual files (a la ufsbackup/ufsrestore) is required?
TIA,

ZFS core contributor nominations
The time has come to review the current Contributor and Core contributor
grants for ZFS. Since all of the ZFS core contributors grants are set
to expire on 02-24-2009 we need to renew the members that are still
contributing at core contributor levels. We should also add some new
members to both Contributor and Core contributor levels.
First the current list of Core contributors:

Replacement disks for Sun X4500
I am bumping this thread because I too have the same question ... can I put modern 3TB disks (hitachi deskstars) into an old x4500 ?
If not, would the x4540 accept them ?

C''mon ARC, stay small...
Running an mmap-intensive workload on ZFS on a X4500, Solaris 10 11/06
(update 3). All file IO is mmap(file), read memory segment, unmap, close.
Tweaked the arc size down via mdb to 1GB. I used that value because
c_min was also 1GB, and I was not sure if c_max could be larger than
c_min....Anyway, I set c_max to 1GB.
After a workload run....:

zfs reports small st_size for directories?
Why does ZFS report such small directory sizes? For example, take a maildir directory with ten entries:

drwx--x--x 14 root root 14 May 12 2006 ..

Slow reads with ZFS+NFS
Heya all,
I''m working on testing ZFS with NFS, and I could use some guidance - read
speeds are a bit less than I expected.
Over a gig-e line, we''re seeing ~30 MB/s reads on average - doesn''t seem to
matter if we''re doing large numbers of small files or small numbers of large
files, the speed seems to top out there. We''ve disabled pre-fetching, which

improve meta data performance
We have a SunFire X4500 running Solaris 10U5 which does about 5-8k nfs ops
of which about 90% are meta data. In hind sight it would have been
significantly better to use a mirrored configuration but we opted for 4 x
(9+2) raidz2 at the time. We can not take the downtime necessary to change
the zpool configuration.
We need to improve the meta data performance with little to no money. Does

ZFS and memcntl(..., MC_SYNC, ...)
It wouldn''t be proper to start my first post here without congratulations
and thanks to the ZFS team for such an impressive piece of work.
Anyway, on to my query. I''ve been trying out ZFS, with a particular focus in
reducing latency in a specific application. This application has a fair
amount of random writing going on in the background (which, of course, ZFS

Bug in "zpool history"
Hi,
I was playing around with NexentaCP and its zfs boot facility. I tried
to figure out how what commands to run and I ran zpool history like
this
# zpool history
2007-06-20.10:19:46 zfs snapshot syspool/rootfs at mysnapshot
2007-06-20.10:20:03 zfs clone syspool/rootfs at mysnapshot syspool/myrootfs
2007-06-20.10:23:21 zfs set bootfs=syspool/myrootfs syspool
As you can see it says I did a
