ZFS Storage Pool advice
This question is concerning ZFS. We have a Sun Fire V890 attached to a EMC disk array. Here''s are plan to incorporate ZFS:
On our EMC storage array we will create 3 LUNS. Now how would ZFS be used for the best performance?
What I''m trying to ask is if you have 3 LUNS and you want to create a ZFS storage pool, would it be better to have a storage pool per LUN or combine the 3

I''ve compiled the 3.0-devel version on SUSE Linux 9.3. The ony problem is the qla2300 driver, which will not start all correctly on boot. So i cannot see other partitions than sda.

Proxy IMAP/POP/ManageSieve/SMTP in a large cluster enviroment
Hi to all in the list, we are trying to do some tests lab for a large scale
mail system having this requirements:
- Scale to maybe 1million users(Only for testing).
- Server side filters.
- User quotas.
- High concurrency.
- High performance and High Availability.
We plan to test this using RHEL5 and maybe RHEL6.
As a storage we are going to use an HP EVA 8400 FC(8 GB/s)
We defined this

Mirror of SAN Boxes with ZFS ? (split site mirror)
Hello,
I''m thinking about a setup that looks like this:
- 2 headnodes with FC connectivity (OpenSolaris)
- 2 backend FC srtorages (Disk Shelves with RAID Controllers presenting a huge 15 TB RAID5)
- 2 datacenters (distance 1 km with dark fibre)
- one headnode and one storage in each data center
(Sorry for this ascii art :)

virtio-scsi <-> vhost multi lun/adapter performance results with 3.6-rc0
Hi folks,
The following are initial virtio-scsi + target vhost benchmark results
using multiple target LUNs per vhost and multiple virtio PCI adapters to
scale the total number of virtio-scsi LUNs into a single KVM guest.
The test setup is currently using 4x SCSI LUNs per vhost WWPN, with 8x
virtio PCI adapters for a total of 32x 500MB ramdisk LUNs into a single
guest, along with each backend

ZFS mirror and sun STK 2540 FC array
Hi all,
we have just bought a sun X2200M2 (4GB / 2 opteron 2214 / 2 disks 250GB
SATA2, solaris 10 update 4)
and a sun STK 2540 FC array (8 disks SAS 146 GB, 1 raid controller).
The server is attached to the array with a single 4 Gb Fibre Channel link.
I want to make a mirror using ZFS with this array.
I have created 2 volumes on the array
in RAID0 (stripe of 128 KB) presented to the host

questions about disk auth element for Backing Chain
Hi,
I am a libvirt qe, I am testing the function about the new location of disk
auth element (as sub-element of the source element) in Backing Chain
Management. And I have a questions:
When all the backing chain are iscsi network disk type(no matter if the
authentication is exist), start the guest , it will only has the top
level disk in xml and there are no other backingStore in it. The test

Whether libvirt can support all backing chain layer are iscsi network disk type
Hi,
For backing chain that all images are iscsi network disk type , such as
iscsi://ip/iqn../0(base image) <-iscsi://ip/iqn../1(active image).
Currently, 'qemu-img info --backing-chain' command can display correct
backing file info, but after starting guest with the active image in
backing chain, it don't include the related <backingStore> element in
dumpxml.

Export ZFS via ISCSI to Linux - Is it stable for production use now?
Hello,
I want to setup an opensolaris for centralized storage server, using
ZFS as the underlying FS, on a RAID 10 SATA disks.
I will export the storage blocks using ISCSI to RHEL 5 (less than 10
clients, and I will format the partition as EXT3)
I want to ask...
1. Is this setup suitable for mission critical use now?
2. Can I use LVM with this setup?
Currently we are using NFS as the

Geek Squad UPS Systems
We are interested in using Nut on our Federa 6.0 servers. However, our
UPS systems are sold under the name "Geek Squad" (sold through the Best
Buy chain of department stores). I'm pretty certain Geek Squad does not
manufacture these units and they just rebrand them. Does anyone know who
makes these units or what they are compatible with in terms of driver
level protocol? The ones we

zfs receive should allow to keep received system unmounted
zfs receive should allow option to disable immediately mount of received filesystem.
In case of original filesystem have changed mountpoints, it''s hard to make clone fs with send-receive, because received filesystem immediately try to mount to old mountpoint, that locked by sourcr fs.
In case of different host mountpoint can be locked by unrelated filesystem.
Can anybody recommend a

Issue with LVM and iSCSI lun
Hi all,
Imagine the following situation, you have :
- one ISCSI storage server providing : lun0 and lun1
- the lun0 and lun1 contains a standard installation of Fedora : VM1 and VM2
- the standards installations define two VG VolGroup00 ...
We didn't define LogicalVolume on the node and we attached directly the iSCSI
lun to the VM without making partition or LV in Ovirt.

Question regarding ZFS
Hi gurus,
I was playing with zfs in a V890 before it was installed for
production. We reinstalled it for production, but the 4 disks We used
to play with zfs have a non standard format (slices comes from s0 to s8
not s2 for backup s7 does not exists)
We need to recover those 4 disks to be used by Solaris Volume Manager.
I know this would be an easy question, but I was trying to fix it

Share disconnect after inactivity
Hi list,
I've the strange problem, that after some time of inactivity a share is
being disconnected. This leads to a red 'X' in the Workplace's list of
connected drives. When opening a disconnected drive, the drive is being
reconnected.
BUT: This has a very fatal side-effect: When f.e. an MS-Access database
is open and the user does not use this db, the share is also being

Moving zfs to an iscsci equallogic LUN
We have a Mirror setup in ZFS that''s 73GB (two internal disks on a sun fire v440). We currently are going to attach this system to an Equallogic Box, and will attach an ISCSCI LUN from the Equallogic box to the v440 of about 200gb. The Equallogic Box is configured as a Hardware Raid 50 (two hot spares for redundancy).
My question is what''s the best approach to moving the ZFS

dovecot-2.1-pigeonhole-0.3.0 identifier redeclared: sieve_multiscript_run (patch)
Hi,
I recently compiled dovecot-2.1.1 on Solaris 10 with Sun Studio, but
when I want to compile Sieve for this version
(dovecot-2.1-pigeonhole-0.3.0) I get an error:
"sieve.c", line 578: identifier redeclared: sieve_multiscript_run
and I see that declaration in sieve.h is different from definition in
sieve.c, so compilation process fails with SunStudio cc compiler.

I have been trying to find an answer to a problem with samba and canot get
any information. I have tried the samba web pages and they have not
helped. How do I get into a newsgroup or is there an email address I can
send the question to. This will affect many possible sights that may use
Samba in the future for NFS. Could you point me in the right direction
