?: SMI vs. EFI label and a disk''s write cache
For Solaris 10 5/09...
There are supposed to be performance improvements if you create a zpool
on a full disk, such as one with an EFI label. Does the same apply if
the full disk is used with an SMI label, which is required to boot?
I am trying to determine the trade-off, if any, of having a single rpool
on cXtYd0s2, if I can even do that, and improved performance compared to
having two

QUESTIONS from EMC: EFI and SMI Disk Labels
All,
my apologies in advance for the wide distribution - it
was recommended that I contact these aliases but if
there is a more appropriate one, please let me know...
I have received the following EFI disk-related
questions from the EMC PowerPath team who
would like to provide more complete support
for EFI disks on Sun platforms...
I would appreciate help in answering these questions...

ZFS SMI vs EFI performance using filebench
I have been testing the performance of zfs vs. ufs using filebench. The setup is a v240, 4GB RAM, 2 at 1503MHz, 1 320GB _SAN_ attached LUN, and using a ZFS mirrored root disk. Our SAN is a top notch NVRAM based SAN. There are lots of discussions using ZFS with SAN based storage.. and it seems ZFS is designed to perform best with dumb disk (JBODs). The test I ran support this observation.. and

Cannot Mirror RPOOL, Can''t Label Disk to SMI
Dear ZFS experts,
I have 2 SATA 500 GB Hard Drive on my Dual Core PC
I have installed OpenSolaris 2008.11 using Live CD I got from Sun Tech Days in Singapore
Now, using all the guidelines I got here at Indiana Discussion, I can''t attach my second drive to rpool to make them mirror
Initially I was playing around with similar configuration in VirtualBox, and it does not succeed. Finally

Clarifications wanted for ZFS spec
I''m reading the "ZFS On-disk Format" PDF (dated 2006 -
are there newer releases?), and have some questions
regarding whether it is outdated:
1) On page 16 it has the following phrase (which I think
is in general invalid):
The value stored in offset is the offset in terms of
sectors (512 byte blocks). To find the physical block
byte offset from the beginning of a slice,

x86: clear_IO_APIC_pin() and SMI delivery mode
clear_IO_APIC_pin() ignores entries that are set to delivery mode SMI.
While this seems reasonable if the entry was unmasked, I consider it
dubious for masked entries.
In Linux, such behavior is benign since when the entry later is being
used for some normal interrupt, the old setting is simply overwritten.
In Xen, however, ioapic_guest_write() uses the vector field to
determine the previous

disks in zpool gone at the same time
Hi,
Yesterday I got all my disks in two zpool disconected.
They are not real disks - LUNS from StorageTek 2530 array.
What could that be - a failing LSI card or a mpt driver in 2009.06?
After reboot got four disks in FAILED state - zpool clear fixed
things with resilvering.
Here is how it started (/var/adm/messages)

Lost zpool after reboot
Hello,
I have a dual boot with Windows 7 64 bit enterprise edition and Opensolaris build 134. This is on Sun Ultra 40 M1 workstation. Three hard drives, 2 in ZFS mirror, 1 is shared with Windows.
Last 2 days I was working in Windows. I didn''t touch the hard drives in any way except I once opened Disk Management to figure out why a external USB hard drive is not being listed.

PROP_TYPE_BINARY or base64 encode to PROP_TYPE_STRING
I never got an answer to this last time and I really need to know the
answer to this. I have PROP_TYPE_BINARY implemented but I think it is
causing some issues elsewhere (it might be incomplete).
-- original question asked 2008-01-16 --
For storing the wrapped per dataset encryption keys as a (hidden)
property I have been using PROP_TYPE_STRING. However this isn''t really
correct

Killing an EFI label
Since this seems to be a ubiquitous problem for people running ZFS, even
though it''s really a general Solaris admin issue, I''m guessing the
expertise is actually here, so I''m asking here.
I found lots of online pages telling how to do it.
None of them were correct or complete. I think. I seem to have
accomplished it in a somewhat hackish fashion, possibly not

zpool import hangs system
Hello,
I''ve been using Nexentastore Community Edition with no issues now for a
while now, however last week I was going to rebuild a different system so I
started to copy all the data off that to my to a raidz2 volume on me CE
system. This was going fine until I noticed that they copy was stalled, as
well as the entire system was non-responsive. I let it sit for several hours

zpool fails with panic in zio_ddt_free()
Hello all,
I am not sure my original mail got through to the list
(I haven''t received it back), so I attach it below.
Anyhow, now I have a saved kernel crash dump of the system
panicking when it tries to - I believe - deferred-release
the corrupted deduped blocks which are no longer referenced
by the userdata/blockpointer tree.
As I previously wrote in my thread on unfixeable

zfs sparc boot "Bad magic number in disk label"
Hello,
I recently installed SunOS 5.11 snv_91 onto a Ultra 60 UPA/PCI with OpenBoot 3.31 and two 300GB SCSI disks. The root file system is UFS on c0t0d0s0. Following the steps in ZFS Admin I have attempted to convert root to ZFS utilizing c0t1d0s0. However, upon "init 6" I am always presented with:
Bad magic number in disk label
can''t open disk label package
My Steps:

Dear All,
I have configured Cluster Suite with 2 servers

I want all snmp packets going out through the active server to be

Problems Building Samba 2.0.3 --with-afs
Hi all,
I'm going nuts.
Ken Weiss and Steve Holstead have been very nice to me and supplied me with
info on how to set my configure files and such. It helped me a lot but I
still get stuck a bit later in the process. Namely during pass_check.c.
I'm on a AIX 4.1.5 box. Using the export version of AFS 3.4.
Help is appreciated. I wouldn't ask you all this if I hadn't already spent

While building Samba 3 for SuSE linux 9.0 I have a problem with the AFS

options).
During configure I did get a warning:
