Unable to import zpool since system hang during zfs destroy
Hi all,
I have a RAID-Z zpool made up of 4 x SATA drives running on Nexenta 1.0.1 (OpenSolaris b85 kernel). It has on it some ZFS filesystems and few volumes that are shared to various windows boxes over iSCSI. On one particular iSCSI volume, I discovered that I had mistakenly deleted some files from the FAT32 partition that is on it. The files were still in a ZFS snapshot that was made earlier

Q. virsh shutdown for a Solaris HVM guest domain
Hi,
I''ve installed Solaris 10 u4 as a hardware virtual machine guest
domain on SXDE 1/08 (aka Nevada b79b) which was fine, i.e. after the
virt-install the domain was fine. However when I went to shutdown the
domain I issued "virsh shutdown solarisHVM" which appeared to
immediately terminate the guest domain. Note, I also have a
paravirtualized domain

very slow boot: stuck at mounting zfs filesystems
Hello list,
I''m having trouble with a server holding a lot of data. After a few
months of uptime, it is currently rebooting from a lockup (reason
unknown so far) but it is taking hours to boot up again. The boot
process is stuck at the stage where it says:
mounting zfs filesystems (1/5)
the machine responds to pings and keystrokes. I can see disk activity;

ZFS panics with dmu_buf_hold_array
Hi,
I have been wrestling with ZFS issues since yesterday when one of my disks sort of died. After much wrestling with "zpool replace" I managed to get the new disk in and got the pool to resilver, but since then I have one error left that I can''t clear:
pool: data
state: ONLINE
status: One or more devices has experienced an error resulting in data
corruption.

cross platform (freebsd) zfs pool replication
Hi,
I have two servers running: freebsd with a zpool v28 and a nexenta (opensolaris b134) running zpool v26.
Replication (with zfs send/receive) from the nexenta box to the freebsd works fine, but I have a problem accessing my replicated volume. When I''m typing and autocomplete with tab key the command cd /remotepool/us (for /remotepool/users) I get a panic.
check the panic @

Kernel panic on import / interrupted zfs destroy
I have a box running snv_134 that had a little boo-boo.
The problem first started a couple of weeks ago with some corruption on two filesystems in a 11 disk 10tb raidz2 set. I ran a couple of scrubs that revealed a handful of corrupt files on my 2 de-duplicated zfs filesystems. No biggie.
I thought that my problems had something to do with de-duplication in 134, so I went about the process of

COMSTAR/zfs integration for faster SCSI
Hi,
Nexenta CP and NexentaStor has integrated COMSTAR with ZFS, which
provides 2-3x performance gain over userland SCSI target daemon. I;ve
blogged in more detail at
http://www.gulecha.org/2009/03/03/nexenta-iscsi-with-comstarzfs-integration/
Cheers,

all in one server: xen/esxi + zfs storage + other server + pci passthrough
hello
at the moment i have several esxi virtual-server with a unsufficient and slow storage-concept included (or i have to pay a lot of money). so i use separate zfs server (free nexenta + my napp-it web gui) as a nas/san server to store virtual machines on nfs shares.
this two server concept is fine for our primary server but not for cost sensitive systems like test installations, home

Prebuilt OpenSolaris / Nexenta DomU with ZFS root?
Does anyone know of a prebuilt Solaris or Nexenta DomU with a ZFS root
that uses paravirtualization?
I''ve been mulling over the directions for both, but my Xen DomU is
Fedora for the moment. (I hope to use OpenSolaris as my Dom0 at some
point, but due to lack of hardware and time, I need to build the VMs
first before I format my home-server.)
Thanks,

Kernel panic on ZFS import - how do I recover?
I posted this on the www.nexentastor.org forums, but no answer so far, so I apologize if you are seeing this twice. I am also engaged with nexenta support, but was hoping to get some additional insights here.
I am running nexenta 3.0.3 community edition, based on 134. The box crashed yesterday, and goes into a reboot loop (kernel panic) when trying to import my data pool, screenshot attached.

zfs failsafe pool mismatch
I have a customer that described this issue to me in general terms.
I''d like to know how to replicated it, and what the best practice is to a avoid the issue, or fix it in an accepted manner.
If they kernel patch, and reboot they may get messages informing them that the pool version is down rev''d. If they act on the message and upgrade the pool version, then have to boot from

ZFS + Dell MD1200's - MD3200 necessary?
We are looking at building a storage platform based on Dell HW + ZFS
(likely Nexenta).
Going Dell because they can provide solid HW support globally.
Are any of you using the MD1200 JBOD with head units *without* an
MD3200 in front? We are being told that the MD1200''s won''t "daisy
chain" unless the MD3200 is involved.
We would be looking to use some sort of

zfs boot on Sparc?
I am afraid a search does not get much on this subject, hence this post.
Is there a plan for a Nevada build to include zfs root/boot on Sparc architecture?
When?

Panic when ZFS pool goes down?
Is it still the case that there is a kernel panic if the device(s) with the ZFS pool die?
I was thinking to attach some cheap SATA disks to a system to use for nearline storage. Then I could use ZFS send/recv on the local system (without ssh) to keep backups of the stuff in the main pool. The main pool is replicated across 2 arrays on the SAN and we have multipathing and it''s quite

ZFS ARC & DNLC Limitation
Hello All,
Awhile back (Feb ''07) when we noticed ZFS was hogging all the memory
on the system, y''all were kind enough to help us use the arc_max
tunable to attempt to limit that usage to a hard value. Unfortunately,
at the time a sticky problem was that the hard limit did not include
DNLC entries generated by ZFS.
I''ve been watching the list since then and trying to

ZFS encryption?? - [Fwd: [osol-announce] SXCE Build 105 available
It was rumored that Nevada build 105 would have ZFS encrypted file
systems integrated into the main source.
In reviewing the Change logs (URL''s below) I did not see anything
mentioned that this had come to pass. Its going to be another week
before I have a chance to play with b105.
Does anyone know specifically if b105 has ZFS encryption?
Thanks,
Jerry

ZFS on ZFS based storage?
I''m trying to guess what is the best practice in this scenario:
- let''s say I have a zfs based storage (let''s say nexenta) that has it zfs pools and volumes shared as iScsi raw devices
- let''s say I have another server running xvm or virtualbox connected to the storage
- let''s say one of the virtual guests is OpenSolaris
My question is:
- is it correct
