updated samba 4.18 & 4.17 packages for debian & ubuntu to address trust issue with windows 10/11 update 07/2023
Hi!
Thank you very much for the great work and for the agility.
I updated my two main DCs and it solved my problem, which was the
connection from one server to another through SQL Server Management Studio
using integrated login, now after the samba updater, the connection is
working again.

oplocks, kernel oplocks, kernel share modes, .. - how it all works?
Hi!
I'm trying to understand how various ways to grant a file lease to (windows) clients
works. Especially in context when files are being modified locally on the linux
filesystem.
For example, there's this wording in man smb.conf:
kernel share modes
...
Kernel share modes provide a minimal level of interoperability with
local UNIX processes and NFS operations by

Thanks Michael for doing this,
I've used your patch ( fix-unsupported-netr_LogonGetCapabilities-l2.patch
) to also update my RHEL8 packages for 4.17.9 ( [1] ).
With this patch of yours and these rpms the trusted connection shows up as
'Good' as it was previously. As usual, if anyone's interested in providing
feedback for these rpms, I'll gladly take it.

samba debian & ubuntu builds
Hi!
After providing samba builds for several debian and ubuntu releases for over 1.5 years,
I see this service is quite popular still.
However, I'd love to understand how useful it is still, and which releases should be
provided in the future.
For example, samba 4.16.x series is end-of-life, there has been no updates for it for
quite some time and none planned, either. Yet people do have

Login Scripts in LDAP
Hi !
I use Samba with OpenLDAP. The Samba users information are
keept in LDAP. I'd like to keep the login scripts in LDAP.
Something knows how can I do this ? And how Samba would read the
login scripts in LDAP and not in netlogon directory ?
Thanks,
Bruno Stella

I had an Inbox with 975,604 emails on ext3 filesystem.
I keept getting dropped on the comand "copy 1:2000 inbox2", the syslog gave
me an error message indicating "out of memory" problems.
This despite the fact that the server has 800MB of ram free.
Anyways, I asked if I could manuanlly move the files at the filesystem level

Oplocks break and no route to host problems
Hi,
I' m experiencing many problems with oplocks break failure and Error: no
route to host.essentialy onto \profiles dir and \netlogon dir.
So My clients cannot update many files on the SAMBA/PDC and cannot read

Thanks for doing this.
I was planning on finishing these by this weekend. If you are planning
on taking significantly longer than that I would appreciate if you
just ping me in IRC (or email, but IRC is more lightweight) whenever
you (or one of your colleagues) starts on a document, so that we can
safely work concurrently.

Small inconsistencies in configure checks
Hi,
JFYI. I am not sure it's worth reporting but, when building 2.5.5 for ALT
I noticed small inconsistencies in configure output.
1. xapian-binding:
checking for /usr/bin/rdoc... no
checking for rdoc... /usr/bin/rdoc
Looks curious but no problem since it's found anyway.
2. xapian-core when built with GCC:
checking whether __builtin_add_overflow is declared... yes

Talking of small inconsistencies, 2.5.5 isn't a Xapian version...
