Off-topic: Pretty-printing R (or S) code with GNU a2ps
--oP8mQFO4PT

GNU a2ps is a fairly versatile text-to-anything processor. It is useful for
typsetting source code from a wide variety of programming languages. As R
(ie S) wasn't supported yet, I quickly cobbled a style sheet for the S
language together. Stylesheets are

Suppose I am upgrading a package foo-1.0 to foo-2.0 (assume foo is not
relocatable), and both packages have %preun sections in their .spec files.
It appears that foo-1.0's %preun is run after foo-2.0 has been installed.
So what happens if foo-1.0 needs to run a binary that was provided as part
of foo-1.0 during its %preun stage, and a binary of the same name is

yum update / kernal update failed - remove or repair
I have a VPS running C7. I ran a 'yum update' which included a kernel update. The yum update wasn't a total success because mariadb updates failed. However everything else appeared to work.
However, when I rebooted the server it did not restart. I have managed to get the ISP's support desk to boot the server by selecting the previous kernel, and I now have access to my box again.

centos 4.4: up2date rpm post scriptlet fail ?
Hi,
I got this in yum update process :
/var/tmp/rpm-tmp.43939: line 12: restorecon: command not found
error: %post(up2date-4.4.69-25.centos4.5.i386) scriptlet failed, exit status 127
"restorecon" is from package "policycoreutils", this last one has never
been installed on my system ...
Any ideas ?

Problems with yum/rpm and %pre scriptlet error 255
I am running xen (2.6.16-xen3_86.1_rhel4.1) on top of a stock CentOS-4.4
installation. I have not added any additional virtual machines however.
When trying to install (as root) acrobat reader 7 for Linux from the adobe
rpm (AdobeReader_enu.i386 7.0.8-1) I get the following errors:
error: %pre(AdobeReader_enu-7.0.8-1.i386) scriptlet failed, exit status 255

Printing problem
Hi. I've been running CentOS 4 since it was released (since 4.0). I
did a fresh install and have kept it updated using up2date and yum so at
present my system is running CentOS 4.2. I mostly use my system as a
super-user and so I can mostly do everything without worrying too much
about permissions. Not too long ago I created a "general" user account

Printing from apps as a regular user...
Hi. I mostly use my system as a super-user and so I can mostly do
everything without worrying too much about permissions. Not too long
ago I created a "general" user account which is automatically logged in
after a few seconds for others to have (limited) access to the system.
Mostly everything works (ie. CD/DVD writing, sound, floppy access,
etc.) But when it comes to printing, only

Hello,
While trying to install a rpm package in a Linux image under guestifish, the following error message is returned:

If I boot the same image in QEMU and run the same command, no error message is returned and the package is correctly installed. The script contents is only a single

spec file
I have looked into the spec file for the openssh rpm.
In the %preun stanza, I noticed that the currently running sshd is
stopped only when removing the package. On the other hand, it is
theoretically possible that a new version of openssh may install files
which would make the old sshd misbehave.
So I think, it is better to stop sshd every time the package is
upgraded.
Also, the %post stanza

New printing concept of wine
Hi,
I´m allways using the recent versions from cvs (prebuild from
dailywine) and I stated that I have to reconfigure my wine printing.
Before I used the wineps.drv driver but now wine seams to work with
the printers defined in /etc/printcap.
But there are some little questions left by me although I got it
printing well:
1.
How can I make another printer as default printer different from

Recover rpm DB corrupted by disk failure?
Over the weekend my workstation (still on CentOS 3) started showing
SMART errors, so we shut it down and moved everything onto a new
drive. On reboot, the RPM database reports as corrupted and "rpm
--rebuilddb" segmentation faults.
Is there any reasonable way to recover from this, short of a complete
reinstall? The machine is otherwise up though it''s quite likely some

PATCH: OpenSSH RPM spec file problems
Hello all,
There are two issues in OpenSSH RPM Red Hat spec file (against 2.2.0p1):
1. /etc/rc.d/init.d/sshd uses 'success' and 'failure'. These don't work
in Red Hat 5.2; else the spec file is fine. Initscripts requirement (for
the one in RH60) added.
2. If you're upgrading over SSH ltd's ssh-server, the server will be
stopped and sshd removed from chkconfig

RPM DB DSA Signature Errors
Alle,
I'm running CentOS 4.8. I just started seeing these errors during RPM
operations:
error: rpmdbAdd: skipping h# 990 Header V3 DSA signature: BAD, key
ID 443e1821
error: rpmdbNextIterator: skipping h# 969 Header V3 DSA signature:
BAD, key ID 443e1821
I've cleared out the __db.* files and tried to rebuild the DB with no
luck. I've also tried this:
