RTL8111 Wiki Pages
Howdy,
It appears that CentOS 5.2's support for the RTL8111B/C chip is incomplete.
The wiki has some blanket statements regarding this support:

rpm for r8168
Hello
I've just been hit by one of the chipsets described at
http://wiki.centos.org/HardwareList/RealTekRTL8111b. Because
a) it does not work with the stock driver included in Centos 5.1 and
b) I am very lazy and I do not like manually compiling modules each time
a new kernel is installed (not to mention that I never forget anything,
except for the important things which always go

HardwareList - webcams
Hi List,
The hardware list page on the Wiki:
http://wiki.centos.org/AdditionalResources/HardwareList
says:
"I'd like to see this page as an entry point for hardware that does not
work with CentOS out of the box or only with some effort. I do not see a
need for a list which states all working hardware."
I'd like to ask if we can make a small exception to that rule for

Alan,
I knew of the Dell article, as I have all of those saved for reference.
[1] I was just wondering if you knew of any that were for someone knew

home area.
In turn when these users that are new to Linux they get discouraged when

Wiki editing
Ralph,
I need edit rights to http://wiki.centos.org/HardwareList/Nvidia_Graphics
I had edit rights at one time. Maybe it has changed because of the wiki sig?
Do I need to join that or what to finish it up? I can still log in but not

Wiki content policy?
Hi List,
I have a general question about the CentOS Wiki policy that's probably
best addressed here.
Akemi and I were recently discussing (read Akemi was twisting my arm!!)
the possibility of doing a Wiki article on SSL (what are SSL
certificates, certificate generation, becoming your own CA, CA-signed vs
self-signed etc), but I'm wondering on the merits of such an article for

Today's log - yum entries
Hi list,
I have the following entries, below, in today's log file (for yesterday,
10th May).
I don't run the automated yum-updated and didn't run a yum update
yesterday, and no packages were installed. Obviously the entries are old.
I was wondering if anyone could offer an explanation?
Thanks,
Ned

r8169 Update
Bill, your CentOS 5 RTL8110 page should probably be updated. I've confirmed
that there's a newer r8169 driver in the kernel that works with the RTL8110.
RealTek's web site now carries the new r8169 instead of the r1000.
The newer driver fixed a problem I was having on one host so we should
probably recommend it over the older r1000.
I've updated my CentOS 4 page.

FAQs
Hi all,
Akemi and I have recently been drafting a few posts for a new forum
subsection (Readme First & FAQs) to aid new forums members in getting help.
One thing we have noticed is that there are two FAQ repositories, one on
the main site and one on the Wiki.
Main site FAQs: http://www.centos.org/modules/smartfaq/
Presumably it would be preferable if there was just one, and as the main

We have CentOS Forums here:

Akemi Yagi (toracat on IRC) and Fabian Arrotin (arrfab on IRC) are the

There are a lot of posts there that I find helpful when doing web
searches ... but we could use more people answering questions there.
Also, we specifically need some people to answer questions concerning

becoming root
Hi List,
I've just drafted a FAQ/mini-HOWTO on becoming root as this is a topic I
see come up time and time again.
Perhaps someone with a reasonable understanding could check it for
technical correctness, and if anyone would like to offer comments/feedback??
Any suggestions as to where might be an appropriate home for this on the
Wiki?
Regards,
Ned

Dovecot & pam_mkhomedir
Hi there,
Does anyone have Dovecot working correctly with pam_mkhomedir, please?
I seem to be going through quite a number of IMAP servers this week,
trying to find one that will not only authenticate against a Windows
domain but which will also create home directories for users the first
time they log in.
I'm using winbind to do the authentication & that seems to be doing the
trick
