CentOS 7 install: closest mirror not supported?
Hi,
Do CentOS 7 installs not automatically use a closest mirror for
installing like Fedora does, or is that due to the way I'm starting
the install (virt-install)?
Background:
I'm trying to find the best way to do installs using basic local media
(network install, but *without* the need to download the squashfs.img
for every install) but without a full local mirror. On Fedora (25),
it

Kickstarting CentOS 7 VM on CentOS 6 not possible?
Hi,
On CentOS 6.7 (all updates) kickstarting a CentOS 7 VM (in the way it
always has worked for other versions, incl. Fedora 22 VM's), does not
work for me. I use virt-install with a local copy of the
"images/pxeboot" tree. It all stops with:
...
[ OK ] Reached target Paths.
[ OK ] Reached target Basic System.
dracut-initqueue[551]: Warning: Could not boot.

CentOS Stream 9 virt-install via loop-mounted ISO fails
Hi,
I've loop-mounted the latest CentOS Stream 9 DVD ISO and try to do
a virt-install (2.0.x for some reason) as non-root user (libvirt
group member) using --location with the mount path, but then I
come across the problem decribed here:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2022630
That is, I see on the console "Starting dracut initqueue hook...",
then it stalls for a

Most USB barcode scanners can operate in so called keyboard wedge mode

OT: a USB barcode scanner?
Hi, folks,
I'm about to go googling, but thought I'd ask here if anyone's using a
barcode scanner with CentOS, and if so, a) what scanner are you using,
and b) what, if any, software are you using to record what it scans?

Does the rsync/xdelta algorithm *need* to write a new file?
Hello,
lately I've been playing with the idea of doing in-place updates
of systems using either rsync or xdelta. However, both rsync
and xdelta seem to be dead set on writing a new file first, and
then atomically exchanging it with the old file.
Now, as I want to apply a binary delta to a full filesystem, bigger
than the available temporary space, this really makes rsync and

Gantt chart software for CentOS 7 ?
Hi,
I'm looking for a Gantt chart software that I can install easily on
CentOS 7. I prefer EPEL - or some other third party repo - packages than
some obscure installation script for home directories.
Any suggestions ?
Cheers,
Niki

Using keepass on Centos 6
Is anyone running keepass on C6? I have a rather large password database under Windows that I want also to use on my Centos systems. It seems that keepass is not available, it relies on mono and there may be bugs.
Googling also seems to suggest that I should download the source code and compile to install. The nux repository seems to have a version for C7, but not for C6.
Many suppositions and

Red Hat would stay as a distinct entity inside IBM. IBM has also
contributed to Free software, and especially Linux kernel.
I don't know how bad it is and the implications for CentOS...

RHEL 8 speculation ???
Is there any blog that has information on a potential RHEL 8 release date?
boost in 7 is now too old for some things, in addition to gcc. There are
solutions in 7 to those issues but it's starting to feel like 6 felt
shortly before 7 came out, so I wonder if it is getting near to time.
I'm working on a major project bitcoin related and it would be

RasPi 3.x and RH-based Distro (Slightly OT)
With the release of the Rasberry Pi 3.x, I think we have a platform I could
jump on board with. Performance has just been lacking until now!
But I really don't want to jump the "RH ship" - I'd rather stick with an
environment I am comfortable in.
Can anybody comment here on the best way to run RHEL/Fedora/CentOS on a RasPi,
or if there's even a useful port?
Thanks

nodejs version 14
Hi All,
I was following the instructions for installing nodejs version 14.
https://github.com/nodesource/distributions
First thing was:
curl -sL https://rpm.nodesource.com/setup_14.x | bash -
After that :
yum -y install nodejs
---> Package nodejs.x86_64 2:12.16.2-1nodesource will be installed
--> Finished Dependency Resolution
You can see its installing the OLD Version 12. not the 14.

nodejs, epel, SCL
Hello,
?With SCL and epel repositories enabled, some dependencies for the package
name 'nodejs' get satisfied with libs from SCL which are placed in paths
that are not part of my user's environment. Is there a method to make sure
that nodeJS from epel dependencies are only satisfied from epel?
For example, the http parser dependency gets satisfied by
