Why create an MS-DOS filesystem on the stick which gets immediately
overwritten in the next step?

Looking for a RAID1 box
I have found a:
HPE 873830-S01 ProLiant MicroServer Gen10
for <$300 without drives.? If I can believe the seller, it has a AMD
Opteron X3216 Dual-core (2 Core) 1.6GHz and 8GB Installed.
It has 4 3.5" bays. and 1? "Media" bay?
https://www.servertechsupply.com/873830-s01/
this could well be acceptable.? Got to find out power draw.? Looks like
~40W.
Any input on issues of OS

What exact model of RAID controller is this? If it's a S100i SR Gen10 then
it's not hardware RAID at all.

Xen BOF at Debconf 18
I am going to submit a proposal for a Xen BOF at DC18.
Here is my first cut at a draft abstract:
Title: Xen in Debian BoF
Format: workshop with 25 min slot
The Xen packages in Debian are in need of some work, including some
tidying up, upstreaming of some Makefile patches, and updating to
new versions. There is a large outstanding bug list.
Also with the demise of Alioth and the

Attach a GPS in preboot mode
Hello everyone and best wishes for 2023 :)
I have an old *Garmin Drive Smart 50 GPS* and I want to be able to
attach it when it is in preboot mode to a VM hosted by a *Debian 11 host*.
From what I understand, the preboot mode allows us to flash a firmware
before the GPS actually starts (used among other things when the GPS is
soft bricked).
When I connect the GPS to the host it gives:

OpenSSH 3.6.1p2 +UnixWare 7.1.1 +SSH2 + PasswordAuthentication no + PermitEmptyPasswords yes (followup)
Greetings,
Problem : Openssh3.6.1p2 on UnixWare 7.1.1 allows access to passwordless
account without a valid key when sshd_config has PasswordAuthentication no
+ PermitEmptyPasswords yes
Attempts:
Installed maintence pack3 and recompiled both OpenSSH and OpenSSL (0.9.7b)
with native c compiler.
Recompiled both OpenSSH and OpenSSL (0.9.7b) with gcc (2.95.2).
Still the same problem.

pxelinux 4.10-pre17 HTTP performance (cptime)
Hi,
thanks for writing cptime, after manually adding it to the Makefile of a
lwip git checkout it compiled fine (same about prdhcp) (only isohybrid
complained about a missing uuid/uuid.h)...
I have a 64bit VM with VMXNET3 and go there this result:

(can everybody see the picture?)

3TB system drive partitioning question
so I want to install c6.2 x86_64 onto a 2.7TB /dev/sda ... its a
virgin machine with no software, using pxe boot.
disk druid or whatever seems to only want to let me have like 2tb of
default stuff, I'm guessing because its not using GPT?
do I need to preboot into a shell or something and use parted before I
can install ?

rsync memory usage with block-size option
I have been using rsync to sync a SQL database dump(127GB in size) on a
server (cygwin to linux) for many years now w/o a problem, until they put a
maintence plan to reindex the database once a week. This is all done over a
2Mbit link normally took 3-4 hrs now I noticed it was running the next day
and took days so I looked into it more. After I discovered the
--only-write-batch it makes a 52 GB

PXE booting Dell diagnostics
Hello!
I like to PXE boot the 'Dell 32 Bit Diagnostics' tool. I can create a
harddisk image with the linux download package. The README of the
Package gives an example how to create an memdisk entry for the pxelinux
menu system:

Verify contents before boot?
I see there's a memtest on the Linux discs I've created... would it be
possible to put another program in place (a module, perhaps?) that can
calculate a hash using a certain algorithm (i.e. SHA512 or similar) to
validate and print out the hash of the boot ISO before booting it? The
integrity of the ISO is absolutely critical.
Thanks,

"pre-OS"
Ok, syslinux is what it is, and I love the way it just works.
I looked up linuxBios and found what I was looking for.
A project in 2000 called "LOBOS (Linux OS Boots Linux OS): Booting a Kernel in 32-bit Mode?
It looks like this would do what I need, but I can't find any working code.
I like the Idea of booting a simple fail safe system and restarting a production kernel. Yes,
