New parsefw
This is from Sean Covel:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
parsefw is a C program to parse Shorewall (netfilter) logfiles and display
them in a pretty format similar to the old ipchains format. Some text is
added about certain well-known destination ports, and they are linked to a
FIREWALL FAQ website for further explaination.
The original parsefw.c was

[Slightly OT] MS MVC taking slight hints from Merb
http://www.hanselman.com/blog/ScottGuMVCPresentationAndScottHaScreencastFromALTNETConference.aspx
In Scott Guthrie''s talk (about 43:30) he mentions requiring the render
call as a convention.
Interesting to see Merb influence Microsoft. :)

Slight OT: Multi WAN Router and SIP Calls
We are drafting a plan for a new office setup. The users will be using Cisco
7940 phones registered to a remote Asterisk server. We were thinking of
using two ADSL lines coming into a Multi-WAN router to allow for load
balancing. As opposed to setting up half the users on one ADSL line, half on
the other.
It would seem that this could cause a problem where a given phone could be
registered out

[Slightly OT] "Open Source Development + Tools" - Book/Resource?
Greetings all-
My apologies for the slightly OT post. My primary production platform *IS* CentOS 5.x with a minor scattering of 4.x machines behind firewalls here and there...
I find that I'm being placed more and more into a 'quasi-developer' role which strays some from my normal system/network admin duties. Specifically, having to work with the deep internals of make, autoconf,

[slightly OT] Calculating subnets
My home lan is 192.168.174.240/29 so that I have 192.168.174.240 as net,
192.168.174.247 as broadcast and space for 6 hosts (have 2 PC and one
router).
Now I would like to edit the rfc1918 file in order to exclude this range
from the list.
What is the way to compute the most compact notation to say that only
192.168.0.0-192.168.174.239 and 192.168.174.248-192.168.255.255 are to

Could an 'idea' also be to close permanently port 22 and configure SSH
to use a completely different port ?
Inviting hackers by having a functioning, in one way or another, port 22
is asking for trouble.

Netbios over ipsec (slightly ot)
Hi,
This issue might be a slightly offtopic, but someone might have experience
with it. Thanks for reading this post anyway.
I have the following setup:
Network 10.227.7.X is connected over a wlan (172.1.1.1 <-> 172.1.1.2) to
network 128.1.1.X.
This setup works, I have cross-subnet browsing going and I am able to
login. When I enable IPSEC (raccoon (linux <-> freebsd)) I am still

[OT] udp 8497, tcp 6346
Cheers,
This is fairly OT, but if this list doesn''t know, I''m under cross fire
for a reason, yet to be found... ;)
One of my firewalls gets hit by *lots* of packets from random source IPs
and varying source ports. Measured by thumb, it''s more frequent than 1
per second -- thus rendering the log file almost useless [1].
Does anyone know, which apps use UDP port 8497
