Upgrading PHP and PHP53 on CentOS5 - Progress/Problem w/ Squirrelmail
Greetings
In the attempt to upgrade the technology stack on CentOS 5 from stock PHP
to PHP53 I have made some progress.
Much thanks to all respondents, especially Jesus.
One repository that provides a complete set of builds and seems to fulfill
both PHP and PHP53 requirements is the IUS one:

Reduntant Samba servers?
Hi,
I am trying to setup two redundant Samba Servers.
The file shares are on both servers and needs to be synced.
My best solution is to run an rsync between them every 5 min ?
Are there any smarter solution to this?
Another problem is how I could solve the kerberos authentication in the
best possible way?
We have a Windows AD server and authenticate through kerberos.
If server1 is down I

Introduction and request for help with virtualization
Good morning everyone. This is my first post to this list. I am very new to
Linux so please bear with me. Also, English is not my first language so
please excuse me if I am unclear.
I am trying to install CentOS Linux operating system in a virtualization
setup. I have already built four host machines with CentOS 5.5 and KVM
virtualization. I can install fine if I do a manual installation. I am

Dovecot not responding to external clients
Hi all
I have Dovecot on my Linux-Mint workstation, running IMAP for the
Thunderbird client thereon, but previously also for my phone and laptop
clients as well. Since upgrading to Linux-Mint 19, however, although the
Thunderbird client on the workstation works just fine, the other clients
can't connect. I've disabled the firewall, and nmap shows the ports
open, so it seems like some

Wide open (security = share) w/ printers including driver download success story
Hi-
I wanted to share my experience w/ the list in getting a completely wide open
file and printer (w/ automagic driver download) with security = share setup
working.
My requirement was to setup a server for a small office of XP boxes w/ file and
printer sharing and had always done samba as domain controller w/ full logons
etc. No need for any security in this setup and I wanted to have the

Sendmail vs. Postfix
Hah!!! This list is just too calm and mundane. The only thing we argue
about is the ''announce'' list vs. the ''user'' list. ;) So, it''s
springtime! I''m seeing all the regularly scheduled ''oil'' threads on my
motorcycle lists and thought "oh what the heck, lets get the ''oil''
thread going over on the CentOS

Why should I answer a Newbie question, there thick!
It would be nice just for once to actually use a mailing list with people
who are a little more sympathetic to the fact that your not a rocket
scentist or molecular biologist and that you might actually need some
help,
without being made to feel like your completely useless and should be
cleaning toilets for a living.
"Ahhh man not another stupid newbie question! are these people completely

horde sync status ?
Hello all,
I had a quick look at the horde site and noticed that
horde is being advertised as, let's say, "smartphone friendly".
Does anyone know if the newest horde version can "talk" to?
smart phones in regards to e-mails ?
In other words, can a user owning a smartphone get his/her
e-mails on it apart from the webpage ?
Thank you,
spyros
?

CITEL gateway does it work well?
Hi all,
Is using a Citel gateway with Asterisk a good solution for reusing of the
old Nortel digital phones?
Would love to get some input from actual users.
Any/all opinions welcome.

ADSI Analogue phones
I'm trying to work out whether I want an ADSI phone or not, and in fact,
whether it is ... useful/works with Asterisk.
I have decided that for the cost/performance of the various IP based phones,
I am not interested, I seem to get significantly better quality from a plain
analogue phone using the TDM40B card.
Is it beneficial to get an ADSI phone as opposed to a plain old analogue

New to XEN
Hello to all.
Im new to Xen and virtualization. We are a small business, with up to 10
users. In order to reduce our TCO, Im thinking on installing virtual
machines to cut down costs and maintenance.
1) A 10/100/1000 network to which 1 virtual machine server attached
2) The different virtual server to run in it are :

The High Performance Echo Canceller (HPEC)
I recently read about the following new technologies from Digium. Has
anyone tried the new HPEC or knows when it will be available?
TDM800P and HPEC
The TDM800P is an 8-port analog telephony interface card, so it fills the
gap between Digium's 4-port and 24-port cards. Analog phones and POTS lines
are going to be with us for some time, and demand for support for them
remains high. The

Reasons why I shouldn't use Asterisk?
It would seem an odd question, but I'm trying to put together a little
presentation on 'Why Asterisk?' and need to list Pros and Cons.... I've
got plenty of Pros (including the availability of commercial support),
but the only Con I can think of is 'Relatively few installations
worldwide'
Can anyone think of any others?
Cheeres,
Gavin.
