Help With Installation to USB Stick
Recently, I was able to create a workable Centos 4.4 "Live USB" on my 1G Lexar Firefly pendrive using the steps in http://linux.web.psi.ch/livecd/usbdisk.html. At the moment, it is doing its job, so I probably won't focus too much more on it. One thing that is annoying, although doesn't cause a problem is that on powerdown and reboot, the cd rom drive ejects - of course, there

converting full to para
virt-p2v was able to convert my centOS 5.2 physical machine to xen virtual machine and it runs great. Now, I am working on to convert this full virt machine to para virt . Under my domU i have installed kernel-xen (since it is needed ) , and edited my grub menu to use the installed kernel. My grub menu file in domU looks like: ---- kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.18-92.1.17.el5xen ro

Could not mount SATA disk as module scsi_hostadapter is not loaded, although present in modules.conf
Hi people, I installed a via SATA controller in a CentOS release 3.8 (Final) - I needed additional disk space. After the first boot, the kudzu service, added the following line to /etc/modules.conf: alias scsi_hostadapter sata_via and I rebooted. After reboot in dmesg one can see: scsi0 : sata_via scsi1 : sata_via Vendor: ATA Model: SAMSUNG HD080HJ Rev: WT10 Type: Direct-Access

Volume group "VolGroup00" not found
Hi, I am compiling Xen from source on FC9. On booting the Xen dom0 kernel it gives the following error: Volume group "VolGroup00" not found and ultimately the error that switchroot: mount failed: No such file or directory So my question is that why it fails to detect logical volumes? Problem getting x86_64 dom0 to boot on a FC4 machine
I''m struggling to get Xen to boot on a FC4 Opteron box. I''ve included the tail of the boot log below [1]. I suspect that the problems relates to the software RAID 1 root and boot partitions, and how it relates to the initrd image. The RAID volumes fail to mount. I compiled the Xen snapshot from the 23rd September, and the only change I''ve made is to enable the

mkinitrd-4.2.1.3-1 unsuitable for 2.6.13+ kernels?
Hi all, I have a Opteron-machine with the MPT SCSI-controller (Symbios 53c1030). At least in i386-mode, mkinitrd does not seem to build a usable initrd for 2.6.13.x (.3 tested) with this kernel. With 2.6.12.6 it works fine. I have not tested this in x86_64 -mode yet. The symptom is that mptbase and mptscsih load, but mptscsih does not discover any controllers nor drives, and things like

Fighting some install issues with a new box
Folks- I have had a machine dropped in my lap that I am trying to get CentOS 4.1 to run on as a first pass (the hope is for it to eventually run Rocks -- http://www.rocksclusters.org , which uses CentOS 4.x as its underlying OS). The machine has 2 Opteron 250DP (2.4GHz) with 4 GB of RAM. It is using a Tyan Thunder K8WE (S2895A2NRF) motherboard with an nVidia nForce chipset --

changing motherboards. kernel panic.
Hi, I just changed the motherboard of a centos 4.4 installation for a new one. this new one has a SIS chipset. Now when i boot from the hard disk i get a kernel panic (unable to find root, no hdd found , etc) I have identified the module I need to load to make centos "see" the disks. Now the question is what do I need to modify in my existing installation, to tell centos to use the new

HP DL140G2 and SATA woes
Posted a similar version of this to the RHEL4 list... I''m having trouble getting CentOS 4.2 installed on a DL140G2 with two SATA drives. I am doing a PXE install, so I do not have a CD-ROM drive in the system and this appears to have the side-effect that both SATA drives are caught by the Uniform Multi-Platform E-IDE driver before ata_piix can catch it. As soon as I hook an IDE CD-ROM

I am able to compile the Dom0 kernel, but when I attempt to boot into it, I receive the following messages: mount: could not find filesystem ''/dev/root'' setuproot: moving /dev failed: No such file or directory setuproot: error mounting /proc: No such

Help with a good recovery plan.. Linux rescue?
Hello All, I have a machine that crashed. Some part of the motherboard (power supply-related) went south. The motherboard, CPU and memory have been replaced with a much newer architecture. The OS and data are intact on two SATA drives that were RAID1 with LVM. I am going to use 'linux rescue' to recover the LVM backup so I can mount the RAIDs (there were two) in a new CentOS

installing xen-3.0.3 on AMD sempron, CentOS4.4
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi I''m currently using xen-3.0.2-testing on several servers. But when xen 3.0.3 was announced I wanted to try it, of course it should have several iprovements and bugfixes, etc. I did the same steps I was previously done in order to compile xen-3.0.2, and in fact xen compiled and installed very cleanly. I created my initrd image and then I

Migration from VMWare to HP Blade
Hi all, A few months ago, I migrated some of our internal servers to HP blades, as the VMWare box they were previously running on was getting too slow. However, it wasn't without it's problems, and eventually the only way I could get them to work was: Install the same version of CentOS on the blade (believed to be 5.0, but /etc/redhat-release says 5.2) Took down both servers, booting

Controller detection order
Hi, I have a dell poweredge 850 with centos 4, freshly installed. I'm now trying to add in a fibre -> sata raid enclosure with LSI HBA's in the 850. My problem is the enclosure gets detected first, hijacking sda and sdb from the internal SATA drive and causing kernel panic at boot time. I've tried changing the order in modprobe to the following: alias eth0 tg3 alias eth1
