Uninstalling GAG Boot Manager -- Problem Solved!
Dear friends: Problem Solved! I had to donwload a new copy of GAG, install a new copy on a floppy, then reboot, switch to diskette in the Bios and only then does the GAG install/uninstall menu show up. Clicked on Uninstall and GAG not only uninstalled itself from the hard drive but also restored the old MBR. Now Centos boots up correctly. Thank God. Benjamin

Can't boot Centos6 ext4 partition from GAG bootloader
Have just installed Centos-6 from a Linux Format DVD. The install went smoothly, although the installer inisisted that the root partition had to be formatted ext4. When my GAG boot loader tried to boot from that root partition, it was unable do so. Elsewhere I read that GAG cannot boot from an ext4 parititon. I there any way tp persuade Centos-6 to use an ext3 root partition? --

RPMS's -- Standalone or From Sources?
Dear friends: [Using the Centos 4.4 DVD) I will spend the next few days reading the documentation for Centos/RedHat. But meanwhile, I would like, while reading it, to listen to my favorite radio programs which require RealPlayer. So, my question is simply: should I download the RealPlayer RPM from www.real.com or should I download it from an rpm repository source? While I am at, what about

Java installs but won't play
Dear friends: I installed Sun's Java manually by downloading their Red Hat RPM. I followed instructions and the install came off fine (Done!), but when I try to play it, it won't work. I imagine that I probably need to create a symbolic link to the plugin. Here is the info: [sher at localhost ~]$ whereis java java: /usr/bin/java /etc/java /usr/lib/java /usr/share/java [sher at

Formatting hdb?
Dear friends: Using Centos 5. I have two physical drives. During install, I made sure to check hdb as well as hda. Both were listed as partitions (which is correct). But my fstab file does not show hdb. How do I make sure that hdb has been formatted and is part of my file system. If hdb is not formatted, how do I format it, please. Sorry for the question. I am a newbie. d[sher at localhost

MSWord97 installs properly but still won't launch (or save?)
Dear friends: I've been trying for some time to install my copy of Word97 (which I own, having purchased it directly from Microsoft with my own license number). I have tried the latest Wine 0.9.14. To do this, I first UNinstalled version 0. 9.1-4 (PCLINUXOS), then installed the new wine from source. The source install asked me to install a number of font files, which I did (bison,

Seen bug?
Hi, I'm using Kmail and dovecot for my IMAP pleasure, and have had some problems, which are evident from the following exchange with some kmail developers. My patch to the imap protocol in KDE fixed my problem, but should dovecot be changed instead? Thank you for any insight! I've included the discussion on kmail-devel so far: [ I wrote: ] -- I've recently switched to IMAP for

Minor dovecot/KMail problem
I'm running a dovecot/IMAP server under CentOS-5.3 on my desktop, reading the mail with KMail on my laptop. I have what seems a venerable and well-documented problem/bug; when I click on "Check Mail" I get an error message "Error while getting folder information" ... Actually, this doesn't appear to have the slightest effect on kmail, which works perfectly if one just

Hi all, When putting multiple centos 5.1 boxes on a network (DHCP for network) and 1 centos 5.1 server is there a way that these clients can automatically "seek" the server. Is there something in centso 5.1 that an inquiry can be sent out that says: Is there a "Product XYZ" on this network? And the server - and not all the clients - can respond to this quiry. Just

KMail + dovecot
Is anyone running docecot on a home LAN. to give an IMAP feed to other machines on the LAN? I am running dovecot on my desktop, alfred. I want to collect email on my laptop, william, using KMail. As far as I can tell, dovecot is running perfectly. I can bring email from /var/spool/mail/tim on alfred to the same directory on william by running "fetchmail alfred" on william. I can then
