Jan 16 17:49:33 murowall kernel: Shorewall Shorewall:FORWARD:REJECT:IN=eth0 O UT=eth2
Marta, As Alan pointed out the loc->net policy is Continue, it should probably be loc->net ACCEPT. This is from Tom''s Shorewall Documentation... http://www.shorewall.net/Documentation.htm#Policy CONTINUE - The connection is neither ACCEPTed, DROPped nor REJECTed. CONTINUE may be used when one or both of the zones named in the entry are sub-zones of or intersect with another zone.

RE: [Shorewall-users] SMTP outbound problem (fwd)
I think we should add an FAQ entry for tcp_ecn. I remember Tom giving a good description in one of his many responses and there is mention of it in the pptp page, but I could not find the response from Tom about different tcp stacks. Logging in Shorewall
Hi, I recently discovered Shorewall. I have 5 or 6 independent machines that I take care of, and I wanted an easy way to build firewall rules... at least easier than writing all the iptables rules myself, or trying to do it with a common script that could handle different setups varying from a one interface machine, to one with three interfaces. Shorewall seems to do the job pretty well. But.

transparent proxy with shorewall
Hi, I followed the instructions posted on the shorewall web page for transparent proxy, but I still cannot get it to work. I have almost the same setup as described on the web, running squid on dmz, eth1, and the loc on eth2. I can see that packets going out from the fw, they are not sent to the squid proxy, and if I try to telnet to the squid proxy to port 80, where I should be directed to

Dropped/Corrupted Log Entries?
Hello! We''re seeing a problem that I think is more of a Netfilter or kernel issue than anything to do with Shorewall, but I thought I would ask about it here, too, to see if anyone has suggestions. What we''re seeing is that, when we do a very fast port scan of a system on the other side of a firewall with Shorewall installed and various common rules, a majority of the denied

samba problem on Mandrake 9.0
Happy New Year to everyone: I have followed the instructions at shorewall.net/samba.htm. I''ve restarted the samba server, shorewall, rebooted, everything. And from my network I cannot browse available shares on the firewall (192.168.1.1) telnet 192.168.1.1 138 fails with connection refused, which I don''t understand. All other open ports respond with a string. -- Philip

Shorewall problem, perhaps with PPPoE
I have what strikes me as an odd problem with shorewall. Let me describe my setup. My desktop (alfred) is connected to the network through an ADSL modem. I am running rp-pppoe, and this works perfectly. I have a small home network, with two LANs; an Ethernet LAN (including a machine running Windows XP), and a WiFi LAN, including the laptop (william) I am using now. All the computers except for

No open channels after timeout
Howdy. Trying to set up a persistent SSH connection from a remote host, to my own machine with a LocalForward. I am running the ssh process in the foreground so it can be maintained by djb's daemontools to ensure that the connection stays open at all times. But, I am having a problem with the following command (even when run manually from a shell): ssh -N tarkin where in ~/.ssh/config I
