Charset used for text subtitles?
Hi!
I have a question about the proposed text subtitles for videostreams.
I suppose this is more about the ogg container format than about theora,
but since it's theora that has come to push such a feature I put my question in this forum.
The question is whether all contents will use unicode charset by default, or if charset will be disregarded?
Because as an example, in the xine video

Determining screen size and/or resolution?
What''s the easiest or best way to determine the screen size from within a controller or view in Rails? My "divs" look great at 1280x800, but not so hot on 800x600. I want to dynamically alter the layout based on the resolution. Any hints regarding screen size or alternate ways of handling this issue would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Mail slowed down to a crawl...
Yes, I thought all of those things too. Spent a good part of yesterday eliminating them as the cause.
top and iotop do not show any issues. No spam filtering on this box (it?s a separate server/software). Drive is 1/3 full. No smart errors.
The queue problem (and I don?t know why this isn?t handled better) turned out to be a couple of corrupted messages in the queue.
Had about 400 messages

Can't install Fixfoto
Hi, I'm using the current version of Ubuntu, and the Wine version the system down loaded. I'd like to use my photo application "Fixfoto" but for some reason I can't get it to work. I can use some apps e. g. XnView, or IrfanView without any problems but for some reason I can't get Fixfoto to work with Wine. I've installed Fixfoto using Wine but when I click on the icon

Mail slowed down to a crawl...
Been moving along just fine for a couple years now, then in the last two days, email has slowed to a crawl.
Retrieving email via IMAP is very slow, progress bar in the mail client shows that it is downloading messages almost constantly, like it never closes the connection, or it?s getting the messages very slowly. The server that dovecot/postfix is on has also bogged down to a crawl.

Choosing subtitle language
I am wondering how negotiating about text subtitles is supposed to work in Theora?
(1) Will it be like the server first transmit a list of available languages, and then it's up to the client to possibly pick a language, either automatically or by user interaction, and then ask the server for that particular subtitle stream?
(2) Or will all subtitle streams be sent simultaneously and

chan_sip.c: Retransmission timeout reached on transmission
Hello friends:
I am facing cutoffs randomly when negotiating calls.
The PBX dials the destination, the provider (softswitch) receives the
request *[1]* and sudenly the PBX hangs up the call* [2]* while the
provider is still dialing it, as a consequence the remote peer receives a
ghost call. Along the atempt I could see six times a messages regarding NAT

fit data with gammadistribution
hello
my data is

by calculating
shape<-(mean(data2))^2/var(data2)
scale<-var(data2)/mean(data2)
i get the idea what the parameters of the gammadistribution would be.
but if i try using the method mle() i get stock and i don't know, how to

Successive Dial apps give hang up within 30s!!
Hi All,
I am using an Asterisk 1.6.2.6, and when I use this part of the dialplan:
exten => 8355,1,Dial(SIP/${EXTEN}&IAX2/${EXTEN},18,tTWwr)
exten => 8355,n,Dial(IAX2/8366,48,tTWwr)
(i made that simple to exhibit issue)
I got just 1 ring in 8366 extension before it hangup, what i noticed is the
total time spent on ringing is 30s that means if i use 12s in the first dial
i get 18s left

Context fails so falling back to extension "s" ?
I realize it's bad form, but I'd really appreciate some hand holding
here. AMP is making me pull my hair out and the mountain of
configuration data in extensions.conf is starting to get to me...
I have the first channel configured in zapata.conf to "take" incoming
contexts to "from-pstn". I'm using AMP neat "Incoming Calls"
configuration page and

Improving effeciency - better table()?
Hi,
I've been running some simulations for a while and the performance of R
has been great. However, I've recently changed the code to perform a sort
of chi-square goodness-of-fit test. To get the observed values for each
cell I've been using table() - specifically I've been using cut2 from
Hmisc to divide up the range into a specified number of cells and then
using

Discontinuities in a simple graph (machine precision?)
Hi,
I've got an ugly but fairly simple function:
mdevstdev <- function(a){
l <- dnorm(a)/(1-pnorm(a))
integrand <- function(z)(abs(z-l)*dnorm(z))
inted <- integrate(integrand, a, Inf)
inted[[1]]/((1- pnorm(a))*sqrt((1 + a*l - l^2)))
}
I wanted to quickly produce a graph of this over the range [-3,3] so I
used:
plotit <-function(x=seq(-3,3,0.01),...){
